[Request] [already in the devels, thank you nicolai] a status bar applet that tells on what homescreen i am .

please, this will be very handfull, very needed, something like the wifi signal applet, it should only shows the number of the homescreen your on, and a support fot the extra homescreens that changes the value when you change the homescreen .
come on wouldn't that be cool ? and handy ?

What's wrong with this one?

takes a lots of space on the homescree, buggy, and it doesn't tell you on what homescreen you are, wich is the main point, what i'm saying is just a small number next to the battery icon, thats all .

I will give you a guarantee that when I have figured out how to compile for the N900 and have actually managed to learn another coding language reasonably well, I will try to do this if no one else has by then.

However, do keep in mind that I am just starting out, have very little time daily to learn a programing language, and that when I DO learn enough to be of any serious help to programing anything, I have a couple of other things I view as higher priority.

In the meantime, I would look at the wifi signal applet source code, and find out if there's some dbus call or other API to fetch what desktop you're on. Then it should be pretty easy to just take the code for the wifi signal applet, clean out the wifi parts, and put in the desktop numbers instead. Then either compile in madde or scratchbox, or figure out the mystery that is the autobuilder.

thank you man, its awesome, great job, maemo5 developers are the best, really thank you man.
it just needs one thing to be perfect, a bigger icon (even if it was as big as the clock digits at the left ) .
but thank you man .
cheers.

As far as I know, icons for the statusbar has to be 18x18 pixels
in size. You can not make the icon bigger.

Well, the clock, cellular signal, and battery icons functions similarly (in fact, almost the same as I understand it) as the other status applets. They just have a different entry in the /etc/hildon-desktop/status-menu.plugins file.

Namely: instead of having X-Status-Area-Position=[#] they have X-Status-Area-Permanent-Item=Clock [for the clock] and X-Status-Area-Permanent-Item=Special-Item-[#] for battery (# = 1) and cell signal bars (# = 0)

If you do explore this avenue and see how it works, I would appreciate it if you either included a settings option to decide what icon size to use, or at least make a separate copy in the repos. This way users who like the smaller one can keep it. (I don't need this, so I'm not using either, but I can imagine others might prefer the smaller one, to any bigger one you may possibly figure out how to implement.)
