[Announce] nixieclock - because we need more clock apps

I have posted a new app to extras-devel (in utilities) called nixieclock. It is a clock with nixietube numbers. Double-tap to enter or exit fullscreen mode.

I admit that this is the second-least useful app I have ever written, but I really needed a new testbed for the process of taking a working Qt Creator app and uploading it to the repositories. I am going to write up the process asap because it really is pretty easy and nobody else should have to do the days of research and testing I did just to get a Qt app in the repos. It really takes just 10 or 15 minutes; you are done prepping it long before they approve the Garage project...

Also, I like nixie tubes.

Screenshot will be attached here asap.

Ah yes a howto package and upload to repos with qt creator would save a lot of reading

That's the plan! I hope to pound it out this evening (I am in Texas so it is afternoon here and I am supposed to be doing gainful employment for my day job). Then there is no excuse for more apps to come rolling into the repositories...

I'll post a link here when it is available somewhere.

The red numbers had creative commons license on wikimedia commons. I didn't dig very hard for blue ones, but I am sure some Gimp jujitsu could make it happen. I am thinking about a calculator, so who knows....but there are a few other projects in line before that one--most especially writing up the Howto mentioned above.

Finally! The long awaited follow up to Old School!

And it's another good 'un, Mr rmerren! More power to your Qt elbow!

Ahhh...a note from my fellow traveler in useless apps. I have not graduated to Kojacker's level as my apps do not require any finger pulling!

Seriously, though, I promise some more useful stuff...the was really just an exercise in shaking out the packaging process.

what I need most is a cool desktop widgetclock/applet but not sure it is possible to write qt hildondesktop apps. But maybe U can try :hint hint :D

The packaging howto is available at http://wiki.maemo.org/Packaging_Qt_C...r_Maemo_Extras. Please have a look-see, try it out, and let me know what you think. Or just make some edits if you find problems in the document.

Great job, rmerren :)

This should have been done months ago. There are a lot of good guides on here but also some of the guides and wikis are absolutely atrocious, often they are hard to find or out of date. IMO it would be in everyone's interest for someone experienced to sit down with a screen capture program and make a short video tutorial on packaging and uploading.

Anyways what you've made is a great help and you deserve a lot of credit for taking the time to put this together :) (I notice there are 26 views on the wiki page and only 2 thanks on your post...)

is threre a way to remove seconds to make numbers bigger?

Re: [Announce] nixieclock - because we need more clock apps

I would love a option for different colors and as Esthreel said maybe a option to get bigger numbers instead of seconds :)

I would like it more with seconds, but also want it bigger.
I'd rather try to redesign tubes themselves. Who says they can be only round? I would have an option with whole height figures.

That picture is great. I have a clock on my chumby with whole-tube pictures, but the round ones were the only ones I could find quickly. They were on wikimedia with an open license.

Re: [Announce] nixieclock - because we need more clock apps

i was looking for a way to tell the time when being asleep
and noticed some of the fellows on the form tried using the LED light to indicate it
but its highly not practical
what i was thinking is for a clock app to have an sleeping mode
which is :
the backlight is dimed to minimum and the phone locks itself every given time interval
and lets say after few secounds unlocks itself just for few seconds

im sure this would be easly implemented on your app ;)

cheers
