iPhone Users are Girls...

Opps... now we know who the iPhone users are.

I never understood why this rivalry with iPhone, it's just another phone, nothing more. It's likefight because you use Linux and someone Windows, or you like KDE and someone Gnome...

There is nothing better or worse, but something that you feel most comfortable. I'm happy with my N900, if someone feel the same about an iPhone... whatever.

this is so grossly inaccurate or western orientated

come to Asia (especially south east asia) and you will find blackberry users are young Asian girls - i.e. entire groups of girls are all on blackberry for the msging/chat capabilities.

pda has always been a male thing -but apple were clever enough to tap into the female market and make the "gadget" female friendly--hence all the sales

fanboyism . . .eugh.

Apple upped the game in the phone/mid/ppc/pda arena and we have to appreiciate that because its resulting in better and better devices for the rest of us. I wouldnt own one again, but you have to admit theyre nice devices for people who just want a simple user friendly experience, the 12 o' clock flashers especially.

And the whole "[insert device you dont own] is for girls" thing is so boring, i had that said to me alot by my fellow geeks about the palm pre and it really is some backwards thinking.

tnkgrl or snubsie would tie most of us in knots with what they know, and theyre not alone.

I don't think it is about iphone specifically, but the company behind it.

This method of marketing originated at Apple, and they maintain it to this day.

EDIT: I must admit, i am surprised how large iphoneos is in europe. But then it as much about ipod touch as iphone so i guess that could shift the image a bit. It it also based on browser id strings so...

Meh. Stereotypes are ignorable.

So is this "US/America this" and "US/America that" rhetoric. Regardless... I did get a chuckle out of this but mistook her freckles for acne.

Iphone users are brilliant. if iphones were cheaper then you wouldn't be on this forum. I am just speaking the truth. Iphone like all apple's
products, make even the hardest things easy. I don't have to write commands for doing something. N900 has potential, but unlike Iphone, it has not unleashed it.

Agree with you that apple know how to bring out potential and I am impressed with what they have been able to achieve with the iphone.

But your suggestion that it is cost that has prevented people on this site from getting an iphone is one of the daftest things I have ever read and there are loads of daft things to read on the internet so that tells you how daft your statement was. For one thing most of us bought the N900 and full price which is not any cheaper than the iphone. In fact it would probably have been easier to get a cheap deal on the iphone giving they are widely available. If I was given an iphone for free I would throw it away without ever using it. Secondly, the thing most here love about the N900 is the very thing that makes it impossible for them to ever use an iphone - openess and customisation.

Very stereotypic, and wrong. I know several people who have switched to Mac from Windows due to the reasons you mentioned. Now they are switching back to Windows. Not because of price (they have more than enough money), but because of limitations and inefficiency. These people are 'typical' Mac users working in media.

Imagine Steve Jobs designing (read; re-inventing) a violin. It would be easy to use by everyone and probably look cool, but with a very limited arsenal of sounds and rhythms. It would be usable for everyone but musicians, and it would only play 'iMusic'. Removing the learning curve can be a good thing, but often a learning curve is needed to unleash even the most rudimentary of creativity and imagination that most people need to simply feel alive. For artists a steep and long learning curve is essential. In essence, iProducts are ultimately deadly boring devices that restricts the imagination and creativity due to their design.

i guess you are right about openness. But about imagination, you are dead wrong. With about millions of apps, you have everything; there you go apple did you a favor and now you dont have to think. I know you have the freedom of making custom things work on android and maemo, and how many people can use their imagination, but i havent seen much happen on this side. The apple store beats the crap outta android's market (for games and various others) maybe android 3 will change the situation who knows. And to the other guy, try buying an iphone 4 without contract it will cost you over 900 bucks even with the contract, the plan will get that much money out of you. I know the value of $ i live in usa. Please dont compare Mac and Windows when discussing about phones it is just plain stupid. i use windows and personally hate mac because of its limits. Iphone is more like closed source windows in the mobile world with millions of apps.

It would also
  • not have a bow, fingers only, with pizzicato being the only officially supported playing method - "if you see a bow they blew it"
  • have a single string, because they did a study back in the 1980s which showed most users found multiple strings confusing
  • not have a pegbox either. The string is made from the new revolutionary matterial GodzillaGut that doesn't break or need re-tuning no matter what everyone tells you. In the unlikely event that you need a re-tune or replacement you would have to take it to the shop for servicing (free in the first year, $79 after that)
  • the string is factory-tuned to the new note I, which is a trade secret - any attempts to reverse engineer its frequency will be met with the full force of the legal department
  • have a capacitive fingerboard, because multi-touch is clearly far more important than accuracy or pressure control. Legacy playing techniques that no one needs anymore such as vibrato are not supported.
  • have the F-holes near the chinrest, for superior aesthetics. If sound comes out muffled when playing you're simply holding it wrong.

And one more thing...
  • the iOlin will be made entirely in an aluminium unibody - let others make un-innovative brown boxes

Does it matter who the iphone users are, who the android users are ??? If they enjoy their devices as much as we do our 900's (or not as many like to advise) then it's bingo eh.

Unless of course a device is just an accessory on a status ladder so it does matter  :)

As a former intensive n900 user who switched to iphone4 i can say what a bunch of pompous people most of your are here.

It's almost like same with ps3 crowd i used to bump heads with over xbo360. You guys hve nothing much to do with your n900 so take time to bash other brands of phones. I mean the amazing library of apps / games etc available on iOS devices is 1000 times better i've ever seen in any nokia devices. And all of last 9 years of mob phone use, i only had one non nokia which was samsung back in 2002.

I've had n70, n80 and n96 in recent past, 2 of these developed faults right after the 1 year warranty period and paid to fix one and dint repair the n96 and now its just a 32gb memory stick if i ever bother to buy a new battery for it.

The n900 i bought back in jan of this year, was immediately in awe as well as disappointed, in awe of the amazing hardware and what it could do and disappointed at lack of anything significant to show off. And nokia seemed to have ditched it right off the bat.

Anyway, did the Nitdroid thingy the manual way before it was made child's play, o/cd it to 1.1Ghz, tried 10s of progrs off the repos and even made my boss buy one.
In Sept i bought an iphone 4 off ebay @ 735$ going around in my country for about 900$ so i though i could make some easy cash but when i started using it, unlocking, jailbreaking etc and checked out tons of navigation software, games looking better than other hand held devices like psp, DS etc.

You think we iphone users are girls than come over to my place and i'll show you how big of girl package i have.

I really have so much on the phone that i dont even get time to finish one game let alone 20 others which i have just kept it there. Here when i was only having n900 i used to refresh the repos every day to see if anything interested is available or when ovi will have any proper games for it. The only games i bought for n900 were th only ones available, Angry birds, and that tranquil rope coloring game i forgot the name and can't be bothered to find my n900 to check it out. I hardly come here anymore as i'm too busy with iphone stuff whenever i have free time.

Go ahead keep calling other phone users whatever you want but all you do is cheer for a fw update as that's the only thing you're getting from nokia while rest of the world is enjoying their devices and not jealous or conerned about others.

Valid points you make. To be fair I think the hatred we have hear is more towards the makers of the iphone than to the iphone itself or the users. If iphone was made by HTC it would not be hated the way it is. However, you have to admit that Steve Jobs is the most annoying person in the world and the company the most annoying company along with him.

Also you mention jailbreaking. This means for you to get the full enjoyment out of the device you paid so much money for, you have to use it in the way the manufacturers do not want at all. How does that make you feel? It is such restrictions that cause people to hate Apple.

Of course we also hate Apple because we love Nokia and are envious that Apple is in the position we wish Nokia was. People will also fight this envy by attacking the iphone and iphone users. Such is human nature.

All in all like I said it is the company we hate not the users.

Thanks for the non-answer. I assumed you were going to be able to list out the limitations of a Mac versus a PC since you stated it without backing it up.

I use both, alongside Linux and to me... I'm not missing anything. But mind you, I'm a Flex/Flash dev, Photoshop user that uses GIT, Capistrano, with many instances of PHP based sites on my Mac(s), and I also use a PC for the same stuff.

I know my toolset is a bit narrow (designer/developer, occasional admin), but I can also admin my Linux boxes from Mac, Windows and of course the Linux machines I own too. I don't do my designing on Linux - hate GIMP, lacks Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe discontinued Flex 3 Beta on Linux - but I don't see limitations outside of a few apps that I've used for quite a while and I don't see any limitations.

Thus the question.

I dont know if you're being funny :D or serious cuz i grew up in 80s got hooked to games through commodore 64, Amiga, PS2, PC 386, 486 DX2 , Pentium 90, AMD cpus, Intel MMx etc. Spent thousands of USDs upgrading my PCs over last decade not to mention 3 xbox360s. Frankly telling you, gaming is what kept me younger all these years and i dont think most girl gamers even know the difference between fps or tps. So calling games are for girls is just not right. Go visit N4G.com and see what kind of members are there.

Better to sift through all the krap and find 1000s of gems than get 20 gems in last 12 months of n900s existence. I mean there are tons of fps games on iOS modern combat, N.O.V.A, racing games like reckless racing, NFS shift which eats the android version combined with Asphalt. ANd yes we got angry birds with 3 level packs on n900 and cried over new level maps and ate them like starving children of africa. Just visit apps store online there are 100s of variations of angry birds themed games but still unique in their own way and you'll never get tired of playing with them. BTW iOS also got Angry bird HAlloween edition. I still dint get time to finish angry birds level 7 and 8 yet where as on n900 that was the only game i played.

Anyway, i loved my n900 and the maemo community here but lets be realistic when all you have to wait is for a new fw to make you excited or porting another o/s cuz the current one just doesnt cut the cake it's time move on.

im' outta here for today atleast gotta hit my xbox360 for some vanquish.

Cheer up :) What did you expect with a link like that in the first post? I find it very funny in a geekish sort of way.

Having said that, of course there are some truth in it, and that is why we find it funny. Girls love the iPhone, that is a fact. It is nothing wrong with that. Nevertheless, all the males who accidentaly or purposely take out their iPhone from their purse/pocket, should be aware of what signals they are sending out to the public. The iPhone is kind of yelling girl girl load and clear. Maybe not a big deal for some, but it is something to take into consideration IMHO :)

Isn't is kind of hypocritical that some on this thread are being attacked for saying how the iphone has tons of games? Or is it just deceiving ourselves?

I say this because most times I come to this website one of the most recent posts is in one angrybirds thread or another. And there was sooooo much excitement with the running of palm pre games on the N900. If memory serves me right that thread has grown to over 600 posts in less than a week. There was also a thread about whether some new N8 QT games could be ported to N900. So many N900 users do care about games. Just that there are none. Attacking iphone for having what we want but do not have and pretending we do not want it shows immaturity.
