Any one tested the flipSync USB keyring?
Would be much more convenient to carry around; I'll grab one when my student loan comes through to test it. |

Hostmode while charging
Plugged in memstick, by using http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...080#post907080 cable. Started high speed hostmode, VBUS boost, and mounted. THEN I plugged in the charger of cable nest linked above (it is very important to plug in the external charger after correct establishing of hostmode, particularly not before you've hit "VBUS boost on", in h-e-n GUI. Also do NOT connect the unpowered charger to cable after you started VBUS boost - either keep it plugged to cable from beginning and just plug into mains later, or first plug into mains and then to Y-cable) t900:~# logger stopping vboost && boostoff t900:~# ls /media/sda1/ Themroc [ Picoli - Dewaere - Miou Miou - Coluche ].avi joerg t900:~# ./bin/bq27200.sh LOOPMODE=0 RS=20 Reading values...........................done. Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
Hi Guys,
I just installed h-e-n and did some experiments. I could connect to my nokia 6110 in mass storage mode. I could access the data, the mount/unmount button didn't work though. Had to mount it manually. I managed to connect with a extrememory micro sd/ms reader and mount a micro sd formatted with fat32 with the mount button. I managed to connect a Kingston MobiliteG2 SD/micrSD reader and mount the card via the gui. Copied some data too with the card readers. Thanks for all the work you put into this project. Regards Aydan |

Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
Sorry to be the one to ask joerg, but do we need to utilise the script you've linked to allow charging during h--e-n? Or is the existing release capable of charging with the above careful steps?

This is a report about results of work in progress, a proper release will come as soon as I finished jrbme and supporting stuff around it (events.d script for starting, udev rule for automounting, etc) and Mohammad augmented the GUI to handle hostmode via jrbme calls rather than direct access to /sys. Mohammad told me something about 26/1 just an hour ago. The pure jrbme script however could also be used via xterm or a set of queen-beecon buttons, so maybe you'll see it prior to next "official" h-e-n pkg release. cheers jOERG |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
Thanks Joerg. Thought I'd ask as I wasn't 100%, and it might help others.
I'm a big fan of this project, so thanks for the update. :) |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
ok, now this is my experience with h-e-n so far:
i only attached a kingston datatraveler 2GB, and it successfully mounted, BUT only if i uncheck a box: "Open file manager after mount" in setting dialogue.... don't know why is this making problems, but, i cannot mount my usb stick if that checkbox is checked  so to be clear: no matter if my file manager is open or closed, i CAN mount, and everything is ok, only if that i don't check to open file manager after mount... maybe a little bug, but everuthing else is working fine ;) thx!!! |

IIRC it's something along the line "binary missing or not executable". Nevertheless, thanks for reporting Please keep in mind [mount] has been marked as transient and unsupported from beginning. Mounting will be handled by udev rule, probably starting with next version scheduled to roll out end of this month cheers jOERG |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
ok! will keep that in mind ;)
anyhow, i have one more... hmmm... question: i have ENORMOUS power drain, when using h-e-n... is that normal...??? (didn't test it for how much long it could keep, but on battery graph, it shows almost VERTICAL line...) |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
bme / stock applet reports a way-off battery meter, restarting bme kicks it back into action, so the vertical line might actually bme remembering it has to check battery life.
|
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
As Mohammad said - bme is guestimating, and the only interesting thing about that effect is that it sheds some light on how bme internally works to calculate battery remaining capacity. It seems bme is remembering data bits from last run, after start - probably saved in CAL - and on noticing differences in battery voltage during what bme thinks had been no time, it gets panic about battery status.
For the grip of real life: VBUS boostmode (the 5V) can deliver max 200mA to USB, so that's ~1W and shouldn't eat more than 30% of battery capacity per hour, on maximum load of USB VBUS. The CPU, when constantly running at high clockrate will also eat more power than on idle, but that's comparable to watching video or any other high system load. And then there's "charging while hostmode" (post #647) to get rid of all battery depletion concerns :-D cheers jOERG |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
ok! thx for the answers! so i could keep my battery safe for about 4 hours when mounted usb stick.... that's ok i think :) (like browsing on net, and installing apps in a same time would kill battery in same time...)
|
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
I've watched a full length movie (~2hrs) from a USB flash drive during h-e-n, and it went from fully charged to around 35%.

I wonder why there is a "permission denied" when trying to create a folder or copy anything to the USB stick attached via hen ??
|
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
I'm rather sure that's unrelated to h-e-n and especially to physical hostmode.
I don't even see how to copy or create folders with h-e-n GUI. Please check post #9! Thanks /j |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
Online translation
When you uninstall the application and restart, my n900 and it did not work, only saw the Nokia logo and white background, and re-boot. I had to reinstall with flasher ... sudo flasher-3.5-F RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin-f |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
I'm not sure how you uninstalled it, but that would never happen when uninstaling h-e-n alone, you probably removed kernel-power and just had to reflash the kernel, not the whole image.
titan, seriously, add system-update and reboot to the package flags, they help a lot. |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
"the application" ?
uninstalling h-e-n hostmode GUI for sure shall not cause any problems with boot. h-e-n however rdepends on a feature that's provided e.g by kernel-power, which means you need to install kernel-power to be able to install h-e-n. *) Kernel-power is a linux kernel and uninstalling it obviously will leave your system in a broken state. Please refer to kernel-power howto, readme, FAQ, threads in this forum, etc. Basically "uninstalling" kernel-pwer means you are going to install the stock kernel. Never UNINSTALL a kernel! This isn't related to h-e-n though *) [edit] Depending on method to install hostmode GUI, this installation of kernel-power may happen automatically, and I heard a few minutes ago that fapman might also do a BAD thing and try to uninstall the kernel automatically on uninstalling hostmode GUI. My take on this is: I introduced kernel hostmode API version, so GUI can check at runtime if the kernel has h-e-n patches or not. So I think the already implemented check for this version in hostmode GUI is sufficient and we should NOT rdepend on kernel-feature-hostmode. This would result in users getting a notifier "no compatible kernel found. Please install kernel-power!" (OWTTE) when starting h-e-n hostmode GUI. Mohammad kinda disagrees on that, and has concerns about users getting even more confused if kernel-power doesn't get auto-installed on installing GUI. So maybe it's up to you, users of h-e-n, to state clearly what you prefer. /j |
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
Maybe a bit of read-learn-post is in order...
|
Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release
I kinda do not mind either way,.
But would not prefer to get another (even better) engine installed in my BMW on servicing e.g. winter tires or bulb replacement. No seriously, h-e-n is a very special app, so a little knowledge about system, especially kernel and power kernel, should be present. Installation order of power-kernel and then h-e-n is sufficient, right? |

Hello,
I fixed kernel module bq27x00_battery (which report info about battery). Now it export to HAL info in correct units (µV, µA, ...) by spec. power_supply_class.txt. Attached patch bq27x00_battery.patch.gz I was inspirated by http://wiki.maemo.org/N900_Hardware_...eter/bq-script. I backported bq27x00_battery module from kernel 2.6.37 and added support for new properties: POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_STATUS POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_CHARGE_NOW POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_CHARGE_FULL POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_ONLINE POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_TIME_TO_EMPTY_NOW POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_TIME_TO_EMPTY_AVG POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_TIME_TO_FULL_NOW For autoloading this module (when N900 are booting) is needed to apply attached patch board-rx51-peripherals.patch.txt. Note that this patch replace patch bq_matan.patch. Now /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_power_supply_battery_bq27200_0 is good replecament for /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/bme on HAL, so it can be used to report battery state when hostmode is active (and bme is stopped). Next I added support for desktop widget battery ( http://maemo.org/packages/view/battery/ ) to read info from bq27x00 when is loaded (it read from HAL). Patch battery.patch.txt is attached too. What about package/plugin status-area-applet-battery ( http://maemo.org/packages/view/statu...pplet-battery/ )? Is there any chance to replace (or fix) this applet to read bq27x00 info when bme is stopped? With source code of this applet will be simple to write patch, but it is closed... Edit 1: * Updated bq27x00_battery.patch.txt (backported changes from kernel 2.6.37) * Added patch board-rx51-peripherals.patch.txt for autoloading bq27x00 when N900 are booting Edit 2: * Merged my patch with bq27x00 patches from kernel mailinglist |

Feature request - adding in h-e-n GUI settings option to start/stop external script during pressing speed-mode or VBUS or Enumerate.
Which will free h-e-n team to deal with some 'not related' to h-e-n itself request from users..... :) For me personally I'll need that for reasons like that, loading script for calling Quote:
