Yes, I did with a 10/100 I bought some time ago, and worked =D

Was amazing watching that working, with an eth0, working dhcp, and using it. I just tested and disconnected, so I did not any extensive test about speed, latency...

UPDATE - 03/18/2011 18:54PM PST: This issue was caused by a faulty USB cable.
So, I finally got my adapter in the mail today, and I followed the steps as shown on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IyeSNGCWTA

But, instead of getting the network card to work, I got these errors:

So, if I got that right, you say it's working now. I'd like to ask you to put that info at head of your post then, rather than as a footnote.

Yeah, I'm aware I'm lazy on proper documentation for h-e-n :-S Shame on me.
Might try to find an unused slot in my schedule to augment/update those wiki pages.

Thanks for the prodding

Hi,
I cant get hostmode to work, I posted my problem at the "usb hostmode problem thread" but to no avail.
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=187
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=190

I finally got the advice to post my kernel messages here, so I attached the messages I got after waiting about a minute after pressing enumerate, with a cruzer flash drive attached.

I hope someone can help, thanks in advance,
AhBarnasha.

As mentioned several times across the forum, USB or bluetooth mice do NOT work with stock N900 browser (MicroB). You need to use another one from the repositories (Opera, for example).

Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release

When trying to find out why external hdd drives would sometimes be mounted, but not always, I found out that it only works consistently when you plug the N900 into the hub after switching on Vboost.

I am not sure if this was posted before, or if it is obvious to others, but I couldn't find it when searching the thread or the Wiki.

ps I use this hub, plus an adapter, it works well, can be powered by a 3mm Nokia charger, and is very compact.

thought there was a thread specific to power kernel but struggling to find it.

anyway assume the power kernel maintainer(s) are in here and just wondered if they could add the snd-usb-audio module or even just post a link to it.
i wish to use it along with mpd in order to use phone to play music to usb snd card without interfering with the rest of the phones sound setup.

thx in advance ;)

great work so far, well insanely great work !
im waiting for my f-f usb adapter to turn up then i can truly have some fun
was thinking [ although almost impossible] wouldn't it be amazing for an n900 via host mode [if the software was made] to rip a dvd and convert it
yes i know it would take a lifetime to do, uttlery pointless but it would be the first phone in the world to do so?

Any chance to be able to enumerate device without turning on vbus? I guess it could be useful for mains powered hubs and would allow to charge the phone at the same time... Sorry if this has already been asked but thread got a bit longish now.

@joerg_rw Sorry, call me blind, but where is the link to the script and the xterm commands? Maybe I misunderstand what you mean by the 'original post' but I'm not finding them.

Also, regarding all that strict sequencing of plugging in, setting hostmode, etc., what is the worst case scenario if you get that wrong? (I don't want to damage my N900 because I get home from the pub and decide that I need to charge in host mode right now!)

booston, boostoff come with h-e-n GUI
bq27200.sh is NOT needed, I just used it to show about charge state (to be found on shadowjk's enivax.net site as well, if you're interested)

charger script is the one of ShadowJK: http://enivax.net/jk/n900/charge.sh.txt

the relevant commands are colored red. Particularly they are

Code:

boostoff
charge.sh
[ctrl-C]
charge.sh

(all the rest - like logger, bq27200 - is just to show what's going on)

the script charge.sh(.txt) I renamed to charger, so the above sequence looked a bit different in my OP

There's of course *no* risk in trying this, otherwise I'd have stated that in BOLD.
Worst thing that can happen is you cause hostmode to quit, so your attached peripheral gets "unmounted".

sorry for the confusion
/j

Simple physics: lever rule

It's more dangerous to touch at the end of a long connector than of a short simply because of the mechanical forces. And the N900 USB connector is only soldered! You could use it without problems, but be warned. :)

It looks safe, i think that Mohammed was concerned about the weight of the adapter it will break the usb port. but in your pic the male Micro B is light and just like n900's USB cable

singpolyma 2011-04-26 14:44

Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release

Thanks all! I thought it might be weight that was the concern. I have ordered that light cable and we'll see how it goes :)

Connecting N900--H-E-N to a audio card aka DAC is straightforward, you need the proper drivers as always.
For the iQube I can't find any drivers mentioned (not even for Windows), but it says current from USB is 0.4A (0.3 for charging) - N900 hostmode vboost can't do that and will shut down hostmode. So the chances this device will play nicely with N900 are not too good, unless you use a self/externally-powered hub between them. Even then you first need to find out about a working driver.

cheers
jOERG

chatbox 2011-05-09 10:46

Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release

About the driver...it seems to be some kind of USB Audio standard. Windows has a generic USB DAC driver. I guess I'll have to plug it into a Linux box to see which module is being loaded.

Re: [Announce] USB hostmode beta release

Sorry if that was answered before (although i read every post on this thread - maybe even just missed something), but how is jrbme writing and augmenting HEN GUI going? I was mentioned to be ready as for 02.2011... I only find a question directly to joerg_rw, @ about 2.2011 (smth like "How is jrbme writing progress?"), but that was never answered.

Please don't take this as complaining - i really respect and LOVE that project, and all people involved ;) I would be just great to know if You encountered any big obstacles, or just get problems with free time to code it, or whatever.

I'm keeping my thumbs for You all!

// edit

I tried /charger.sh script that joer-rw linked some pages ago and it works great, thank You Joerg! Another ''dream'' of charing while hostmode is true.

Anyway, i encountered strange problem. Sorry if it is something obvious - i may be littlenewbie when comes to unusual xterm shortcuts - but, when o use ctrl+n combination while charging (to do something other in xterm), after ~15 second charging stop - it work for me exactly like ctrl+z, except that last one print "stopped"... Beside that, effect is the same, so when charging xterm must be left alone in my case.

I feel that i missed something very obvious here (even encountered that strange feeling, when You know that explanation is just ahead, but can't find it?), however after few hours of googling around i give up and ask here...

// Edit @ next post

*facepalm festival*
Thank you very much... Yea, i knew that it was something easy...
