I can confirm that I have rev 2204 and had problem with v44. Reflashed with stock kernel, then installed v45. Now it boots. However reboots seems erratic. I've tried 4 reboots in a row since installing v45. First 2 times shortly after "Starting kernel ..." the device powers off, if I then turn on the device it boots normally. Then the last 2 times reboot is normal. Not sure I want to do any more reboots right now to check.

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

hello,
just installed v45 with rev 2101 mainboard.
Device is not booting up, sreen says reading boot.scr and goes off after a few sec. Looks like it's trying to boot from mmc1 (SD card) when i remove this, then it's booting fine, everything seems to work.

After testing i noticed that, when i press a key within 3 sec when it's booting and i type run noloboot then it's boots up wih mmc1 card inserted!

How to mange that the device is normally booting up???
So that i don't have to enter some text, or press a key?
If i want to boot another than MAEMO than that's OK, but i don't yet use that option...

thanks in advance

i did this, didn't work.

now of further trying, in noticed that when the n900 is booted up and running normally, when i press reboot, i have the reboot button in the power menu. then everything is working fine. Phone is booting up normally his MAEMO kernel (titans OCed)
But when i shutdown the device and switch is on, it tries to boot up from mmc1, after a few sec, device goes off.
So the boot sequence is first trying to boot from SD/MMC1

I prefer to first to boot Maemo, and when you hit a key within 3 sec you have a choice where to boot from...

Is this possible? and how do i do that?

OK. It really was the battery level that prevented me from being able to reflash. Gave my battery to a freind with a 5800 and he charged it up full and after that flashing wasn't a problem at all. Kept all my data but gotta start installing all those apps again...

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

To anyone not being able to boot their device, THIS helped. Its just the normal kernel and a few OCed. I used it to get me into Xterm. Now running 45 stable @ 1.15Ghz.

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

There's nothing really new in fcam-drivers 1.0.7.2, except a conflict has been added for kernel-power below version 44. So, don't bother updating if you are still on 42 (not that you can yet because it's only in the svn tree, but still)

You could of just flashed the kernel(saved all your apps):
flasher-3.5 -F ''image''--flash-only=kernel -f

e.g(sudo /home/User/Desktop/maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2/flasher-3.5 -F /home/john/Desktop/maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2/RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin --flash-only=kernel -f ) is what is did.

(hope thats right)

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

Haven't had any problems with any of the version I've tried (.43,.44,.45). Only with camera in earlier versions, but that was fixed by installing updated fcam drivers.

Code:

N900:~$ grep Revision /proc/cpuinfo | awk ' { print $3 } '
2101

My backup was a few days old and I'd made some changes. Typical that the whole fiasco happened when I least expected it :). Ah well...live and learn (hopefully!!)

Thanks but I dont mind that I flashed it. Just wanna backup pics and music now and then do a proper clean up. I've been doing some heavy (nOOb-ian) messing with the phone lately. Thats why I love my N900:D

Thanks!

I was on kernel power 42 when I upgraded to 44, that's when I got the freezing issue. Then I flashed back to the stock kernel using the flasher program. That allowed me to boot the n900, where I was able to downgrade to the 43 version. From there I upgraded to 45 and so far no problems. Of course I also installed the updated fcam drivers from titan for the camera. Hope this helps!

On another note, I have noticed that the n900 cannot be rebooted with kernel power 45? By reboot i mean using the hidden reboot button. Is this a known issue?

Not for me. Just rebooted and it worked fine. With all that u-boot stuff it takes much longer until the device reacts again but in the end, it boots up fine.

See post 243. Since that post I needed to reboot a 5th time (and it rebooted ok without powering off) because my audio didn't work. I thought it might be because of v45 kernel, so I reflashed to stock PR1.3 kernel and audio is still borked.

on v42 phone reboots right after loading ideal settings
kernel-config load ideal->applied succesfully->2s->reboot

on v44 got stuck at u-boot (h/w 2204)
on v45 same as v42

i don't have fcam (or do i?,how to check if/ver?)
in last month reflashed few times and never installed bless

cheers

You can simply open xterm and call
Code:

dpkg -l | grep fcam
You don't need to be root for that. You'll see wether fcam is installed (line starts with ii) or not. Maybe it has been installed and is uninstalled now but not completely purged (line starts with rc).
If line starts with something else post again ;)

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

Friends,

I'm on PR 1.2 and installed the latest power45 kernel, if I press any key during the U Boot load cycle I get an interesting command prompt where I can type "help" and various commands, but within 5 seconds or so the N900 turns off.

Is this normal? Is there any way to stay in that command mode and not have the N900 turn off (I'm guessing it's "bootloader command mode?)

As a side note, if I do not press anything the N900 boots normally into PR 1.2.

Do you by any chance have the Camera Lens Launcher app installed?

In my case everything was totally fine under .44 until I installed that. As soon as I did, the N900 got stuck in an endless reboot loop -- it would make it as far as the desktop and then just restart itself.

I ended up completely reflashing the FW and EMMC and I'm sticking with .42 for now.

I am not having trouble booting to Maemo, but rather I want to explore the U-Boot menu.

If I do not press any buttons on boot I am able to get into Maemo normally.

I just tried it, for you. Seems to be normal, or a bug.

There are two watchdogs - omap and twl4030. u-boot disables the omap watchdog, but not the twl4030 watchdog.

One of my enhancements for u-boot was disabling the twl4030 watchdog. Unfortunately, this version of u-boot does not work on HW revision 2204.

If your HW revision is 2101 (listed in /proc/cpuinfo), and you don't use USB host mode, you may downgrade to kernel power44 (but make sure you do it correctly), and have a u-boot for longer than 30 seconds.

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

My HW revision is 2104, it boots somtimes and other times doesn't, seems it boots more often right after i pulled out the battery and stuck it back in.

Btw, do you think i can get Nokia here to replace my N900 by one with the most recent hardware revision for free even though i bought it on another country?

Uhhh, is this caused by the Power Kernel ? (I assume?)

Reason I ask is I am running stock kernels and reading the material
before taking the plunge into the Power Kernel
and I can say this - after upgrading both my n900s in PR 1.3
one with 2101 hw and the other with 2204 hw
I find the GPS works even better than before with stock kernel.

If GPS is broken in Power Kernel then I might postpone
my adventures until I can see where it might be fixed,
as I rely quite a bit on GPS.

did anybody post a solution to the camera not working?

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

Well, I'm running Power .45, blessn900 0.41-1 and fcam-drivers 1.0.7-2 and the camera works fine with blessn900, regular camera, mbarcode and Qik.

Also, I am not experiencing any problems with the GPS with power .45

Not sure why it works for me and others are having difficulties.

It's not. I'm using the Power Kernel (.45) and it works just as good as with the stock kernel. Those problems might be caused by something else.

I've got to agree with this.

I'm on PR1.3 Power 45.

Camera, GPS etc., everything works as it should.

Maybe try a reflash. Instead of updating. When I upgraded to PR1.3, I completely reflashed (with PR1.3) and reinstalled everything.

Re: Update for Enhanced kernel for power users just released

I installed Powerkernel v45 when it came a few days ago as OTA update and everything was fine until today when I tried to take a photo. The application didn't start as didn't either the BlessN900.

I removed BlssN900 and the Fcam drivers and rebooted the N900 and after that camera worked just fine. Then I installed the FCamera and the Fcam drivers with that and also the BlessN900. Now the standard camera and also FCamera and BlessN900 works just fine.

I have no issues with the GPS fix or any other issues with this Powerkernel version.

How come this kernel STILL doesn't work with a DD-WRT powered router set to multimode?

Quite upset about that as I do not want to have to gimp the speed of my laptop just to use WiFi on my N900, or gimp the CPU speed of my N900 to use fast WiFi on my laptop.
