Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) SCUD is BACK!!!

I recently bought a JaPod battery and now after charging Nokia BME shows always 100 and only Nokia Alternative BME shows that the juice is going down. Also batterygraph shows that capacity is 948 instead of 1350. Is this normal? this was supposed to be one of the recomended batteries :) so maybe I've messed something in my system?

batterygraph doesn't show real capacity, it just uses value "coded" via resistance between BMI pin and ground. For real capacity, do as in my last post, or use special LiPo charger that is able to measure capacity.

Last night I had a dream about a 2x18650 (6000mAh) battery socket in my n900 with a giant double-mugen-size back cover. :)

Hehe, that was something i was tinkering with when i got my N900 since i have a lot of 18650's laying around, but in my case it would only be a 4400+mAh battery.

Hey, it's a R6 size, isn't it? Should 2 of them easily fit in cover of similar size to Mugen Cover? Just a little thicker?

Then, it would require only 100k resistor (optionally, instead of resistor, PCB scavenged from any random BL5J - if someone care for circuit protection), and it would work in N900 flawlessly.

Are 3000 mAh single cells really available, or capacity is faked?

i old times i remember.. cell phone's use to start without battery with charging plug only.. kinda of functionality our Laptop's have(work just with DC without Battery)..

is it possible to fake a battery with some array of capacitance or something..

N900 in DC mode(like Laptop's) would be GREAT
:)

Panasonic makes genuine 3100mAh 18650 cells. That is the highest as far as I know.

Holy f*ck! I must check possibilities of putting it into custom N900 body (backcover only may be not enough, as You waste space for standard battery slot), 6000 mAh battery would be overkill.

Do you imagine runtime?

I read that these new Panasonic 3100 mAh 18650 are what is used in the battery back for Tesla Roadster electric cars. 18650 size is what is used in laptop battery packs and many RC battery packs as well, so they are very cheap and easy to find. You can even extract them from old dead laptop batteries, often the cells are okay but one failed or the pack's circuitry is bad from being dropped or something...

18650 battery is cylindrical,18mm wide and 65mm long (up to 70mm with protection circuit attached). So, due to the shape, space utilization is not as efficient as the pouch (flat) style battery like mobile phones normally use. On the other hand, OMG the mAh. :)

Here is a great site doing tests of 18650 batteries and chargers:
