Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1!!!!!)

If one battery says 50 and the other 75, then the connection is not good enough, there should MAX be a 5% difference when disconnected from each other.

This is why i made mine in the "destructive" way, i don't want a sudden shutdown because connection is "bad"

All the battery's i have (Not N900) are also soldered good together because of this, my Electro ciao pulls 110A so this would be bad and would destroy parts of the battery if only some of the 36 cells would suddenly pull the hole load

Other mod i would recommend is zimon's mod

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1!!!!!)

FYI I just used copper wire that was sold as picture wire

you know, the copper wire that is used to hang pictures up sold at bunnings. Not sure if thats substantially diff from electrical wire - but it does say pure copper.

I charge over 95% no issues on usb and I often charge on external desktrop charger (when I pop battery into phone its over 90% using the QBW script here), although my double battery probably does not get as good capacity as the destructive mod though. Still decent

if ppl want pics I can post some - but it just looks kinda like the earlier pics before.

2 Attachment(s)
For fun i did a charge last night with a USB charger (500mA) not fast charge
Heres the results for USB vs. my external/internal charger

NOTE: doing my charge recaller had craped out and was as you can see totally ripping the power/cpu
Also note that my charger gives a few more % of charge

My external/internal charger:
Attachment 20380

USB charger:
Attachment 20379

FYI I m using this external battery charger that can fully charge the scuds. Its output is very low, ~250-300mah, but for 5$ it is good. It takes it almost 5 hours for a full charge cycle. Also, you can use its usb output for other charges, ~800mah (didn't tested if this is the actual value).

Thats a nice little very cheap charger, but not fast, if you where to charge a dual scud, you would be looking at about 10 hours.

Remember im using the 3000mAh setup, the charger i normally use to charge with is http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mystery...-charger-35704 it really sucks at charging multi cells but charging single (3.7V) battery it works fine, this is the cheapest RC charger i have and it is just generally use to charge all my single cell "gadgets" like DIY led torches.

I also was expecting not too much difference in charging level, 25% is too much, the phone was using only one battery since the duration is not so good compared to the other users test.

Without soldering experience is very probabily that i can only do damage to the battery, and don't want to wait another month for another shipment, plus the increased cost.

Anyway i remade the plug with soldering wire this time, it is much more malleable and less prone to lose the contact, at least for me. Now i think that is working, for two reason: the first one is that your QBW indicator is more stable, in the previous attempt the value fluctuate very much, now is reasonable. The second is the duration, i lose only a 25% in 13 hrs, with 3g always on, IM always on, 2 hrs of web navigation. This is a sensible increase in life, in the previous attempent with the same configuration the battery was almost drained.

So let's see in the next days how it behave.

Are your scud totally discharged. Because 5 hrs * 300 mAh = 1500 mAh, the value of a single Scud. You should recharge 3000 mAh for having both the scud fully charged, so it is necessary 10 hrs with this charger.

Just a little correction here, the first 60-80% charge will be at 300mAh, then it will go down in charge rate because the voltage potential gets smaller between charger and battery, this causes the last bit of charging to take "forever", the last 10-30% might only charge with 20-100mA

It seams that mugen is on to me/us :D

Now they are not selling the XL cover unless you have bought the battery from them, i cannot confirm this (don't have the money to buy...) and was brought up by another user.

Can anybody else confirm this?

NOTE: im finishing up the first video, it so far is only going to be a dissemble video, this is the most important step of them all, if this step is not done properly then it will be almost impossible to make the dual battery, the way i did

False, at least for me. As i said before, i ordered mine on 09.05.11 and considering their info true, it's already shipped to me, after little delay problems - I posted about it here few posts before.

But, it is still possible that I angered them so much that their started to check :D Anyway, if they really started to, they don't keep tracks from the beginning of N900 mugen battery availability. I think that checking when they started selling it and telling that You bought it on same month, and of course can't prove it after all this time, may help.

It turns out that the Mugen battery group are CLUELESS IDIOTS.

I was one of the FIRST to buy one of the large batteries from Mugen for my N900.

I also bought several smaller batteries from Mugen for my N900.

It turns out that I LOST my cover recently on one of my frequent trips from Los Angeles to San Diego.

So now Mugen REFUSES TO SELL ME A REPLACEMENT.

Mugen CANNOT LOOK ME UP IN ITS RECORDS because that requires effort.

Mugen has lost a customer.

Just in case anyone cares, which I doubt, my real name is

Well i have never had a gen1, they sold gen2 from way before i bought my first mugen cover, so i don't expect to buy gen1 unless buying used from ebay....

the difference is of course important, the gen1 has no magnet so this means no MicroSD unless you put in your own mini magnet (which you can buy from many sites)
I cannot not remember if the camera "shutter" was present on gen1.

But again you should not run into gen1 covers unless you buy second hand.

With some days of testing, i can say that with the soldering wire is working very well, awesome battery length, i can finally use the phone all the day without thinking about the energy saving.

I can also recommend LuciaLui - for me shipment took less than 14 days using hongkong post. Also note that china national post is MUCH slower that hong-kong one, even thought for package it takes ~3 days (from "shipment made" announcement) to arrive at Hongkong from mainland, where LuciaLui resident. Still, even with 3 days more before proceeding start, Hongkong is better. I presume that this will change badly on 2047, when hongkong will loose "special administrative region" rights and become sucked by People Republic... ;)

also got scammed by another seller, dispute running...

While I was in Taiwan last week, my original n900 battery broke down completely, charging very slowly and discharging fast. Had to buy one locally. Since I didn't see the SCUD ones, I went for a white product one ($7) which the seller claimed was pretty good since she used them herself. So far it holds pretty well. Marked 1200mAh.

We'll see when/if the SCUD arrives :/

Pigro 2011-06-06 12:51

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1!!!!!)

I bought a scud from seller "army z" via aliexpress. Pack was sent via China mail, but the tracking site claimed that delivery was unsuccessful on 20/05/11 (I was ome all day) and that final delivery was made on 21/05/11 (I was out of the country). I paid via Aliexpress escrow, and I opened a dispute (requestign a full refund, or details of the local delivery company so I could pursue matters myself), but the seller rejected the dispute. I couldn't find any way of "extendng" the dispute - as in order to make any change to it, I needed to select a radio button on the web form to say whether the goods were received or not. I couldn't select "no" (it didn't let me, the button was not selectable). So, I complained to Aliexpress customr services. They didn't respond until AFTER the dispute had been automatically closed, and they basically just said that the seller says the goods have been delivered, and I didn't update the dispute so it expired automatically and it is now between me and the seller.

I don't know whether

a) the seller actually sent the goods in good faith (I presume the china mail web tracker is a genuine & independant tool, and it did show them being dispatched, transiting china, entering the UK and then the two delivery attempts) and the UK courier has messed up/lost/lied ... or

b) the seller is running some scam where they link to a phoney order tracking site so that you think "I never got my goods but they appear to have done their bit OK"

Anyway, $13 down the drain, it's not worth pursuing further - but be careful of "army z" if you decide to buy the scud via aliexpress.

I've just bought a BL-5J plus desktop charger from here http://www.evertop.co.uk/p/1050111/g...dition-x6.html with next day delivery. Hope it turns out to be genuine (or at least a good fake!) as I need it for a trip to the US this week ...

If you search way back in this thread on my name you will find an explanation. That battery likely was made by one of the firms trading as Scud. What we call a scud here likely should be referred to otherwise..

Thanks, but the China mail tracking ref # isn't recognised on the UK Royal mail tracker - doesn't really surprise me :-)

My 'local' post office (I live in a city centre, so there is no one local office that would always deal with my mail) would not even speak to me if I couldn't give them a Royal Mail registered parcel ref # they recognise - I don't have one (and I don't know if one ecen existed, I have no info on who the local carrier was).

As the Chinese tracker does state that final delivery was made, clearly their local agent HAS delivered it to somebody, just not me :-(

Just to post something of value, here in Brazil I can get something from china varying from 18 to 75 days after shipping. IF it is delivered at all, but up to this moment, almost anything I have bought, came.
