I ordered in May my Scud and it has defiantly more then 1420mAh so they may changed it in the last weeks, I was so far satisfied with it.

I'm not sure though if it may "killed" the default loading feature of my N900, read http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...99#post1107599 for more informations. I can't confirm though that it is related with the Scud battery.

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1)

Dear valued customer,

We found the new battery is thinner than before. But when we testing it in the mobile phone C3, it is not obviously different. We heard that the battery chip may have been changed, it has not been confirm yet. So we did not sure if the capacity of blue SCUD is really lower than before.
Any way, if you worry about it, we can refound you money, or ship a yellow SCUD (1350mAh, we sure the one is real capacity) to you. Please advise.

Yours sincerely,
Lucia Lui

what should i purchase?

Get them to ship a yellow.

I think ill better take my testing gloves on again and get some scuds for re-review.

Thanks Doctor*, I'm waiting for results with much interest. Just remember, to also check date stamp (on outer, big case, where SCUD and pouch is placed) - mine was marked as 2011.6.

And don't fry Your sonic screwdriver during the process! Sorry, can't stop myself from writing this, just once

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1)

I got reply from seller:

"hello
I call SCUD engineer,he says the BL-5J battery is complained by a lot of buyers ,says the battery is too thicker, SO scud factory decide to make it more thinner,I checked with my China buyers, they says the thinner is more suitable, if you still do not like it, please return it to me, I never sell fake product, linda"

For some reasons (intuition?) I do believe. So, it seems, that because of some idiots complaining about thick batteries, we got SCUD worse than genuine Nokia battery :/

Still, dr_frost_dk test would be final confirmation ;)

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1)

so shud i tell lucia lui to ship the blue scud.instead of the yellow one?

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1)

trisha02 get a refund an buy a Japod or polarcell or any of the battery's that have been tested to over 1320mAh, and please no more questions without reading FIRST, the last pages are with your used asking questions that can be read..., i know you want to be sure and in that way please PM me for any other questions.
Again PM me.

---

In the next couple of hours im going to redo POST #1, here with scuds not being the king any more, it makes perfect sense that people would complain, when maybe only our N900 is the only phone that can used the scuds without any problems...

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) Scud UPDATE.

I ordered a SCUD last week and Lucia Lui wrote me that the new ones are like 1200mAh and that I could cancel the order... then I asked for a better one and Lucia told me about the new 1445 battery coming next week, so I chose to wait.

Anyway I'd curious to know the real capacity of some other batteries I found like the ATRAX (http://www.ebay.it/itm/BATTERIA-NOKI...item2a145767de) and the extremely cheap FEIPUSI (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1700mAh-BL...00226035823645)
:D

BTW I have a 5800XM not a N900

bdw i tried to measure the mAh of stock battery.placed bq file in usr/sbin. after full charge ran bq. VDQ showed one. when almost battery empty. checked again VDQ showd 1. then it was turining off bt EDV dint change from 0 to 1 and after i turned it on again after it turned off. ran bq again and it showed 1675 mAh. the same result when tested with scud battery

in other news i am low on funds and cannot order any "new" scuds home for testing, Estel can you take this one? you know test them like i normally do.

Why is it a requirement? won't an original nokia 350ma charge a big battery just taking more time?

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) Scud UPDATE.

The "new" blue scuds are 1180mAh, +5 mAh depending on individual one (counting only the "best" historical results of measured batteries). I've already sold all of them on domestic market (in Poland, honestly describing that their performance is worse than "old" batches of scuds, of course) - I've at least received *almost* full amount of money I've paid for them. Not exactly whole sum, but, well, it's hobbyist risk...

Still, I've tested all of them thoroughly (When I was not certain about Scud quality drop, I wanted to be sure, that it isn't only 1 or two batteries fail/fake one/whatever)

As for new/old "yellow ones (I've seen them for ages)", I haven't tested them yet, but I doubt they will do any better. I'm waiting for the new 1445 battery as from:

Ho ever, Lucia Lui recently told me, that arrival of new battery is delaying. so, we have to wait for new testing material ;) Lately, I was able to finally receive Mugen Cover (delayed by the Mugenians for one a heck of long time...), so I was able to send assembled dual-scud and Mugen Cover with camera lens cover to one (very patient and understanding :) ) donor. Also, other person ordered dual-scuds made from all my remaining 1520 mAh Scuds, so after receiving money, I'll be able to test new "1445" declared ones.

BTW, as You can see from above, here goes "not-so-good" news for people interested in dual-scuds - I'm out of stock, when it comes to "oldie'n'goodie" 1520 mAh Scuds. I can still assemble some for "donation" using any other batteries - of donor choice - but "best" scuds are gone for good.

/Estel

Ps.

As for chargers, every charger should be able to charge battery to full, if it provide enough current to be accepted by N900 fuel gauge. On the other hand, if You're charging outside N900 charging circuit (and Your external charger is reliable for LiPo charging), You should be able to charge with even smallest sane current. Of course, it will take ages on, let's say, 100 mAh ;)

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) Scud UPDATE.

this seems like the best place to post this question. I've recently moved on from a N900 to a N9. I have 2 double batteries for the n900 (dual scud and dual japod). I am considering using one of these combo's, and creating an external battery of some sort. Unfortunately, the N9's battery is buried deep inside the phone, and you have to take out all the parts to get to where it is (which takes out doing a double battery). So I'm currently debating about an external battery.

I can only plug this battery into the micro-usb, which I understand takes 5v. These batteries provide 3.6v-4.2v (give or take a bit). I know one can make an external battery out of AA batteries, but out of the cell phone batteries?

Get something like this and mod it with an MicroUSB wire & Plug instead of the USB thats on it

EDIT: if you need more power put 2x together or find similar that has >700mA

hi, i have a question about modding the scuds. if we put 2 together then we more or less double the run time, which Dr Frost has alredy tested. my question is that does this double the voltage also (2 x 3.7) or does that just remain normal (3.7) ?
thankyou

Source voltages in parallel average the output, sources in series add them. Amperage, on the other hand adds for parallel and averages (roughly) for series. Since all the mods are placing the batteries in parallel, it's the average voltage of the two and roughly the sum of that amperage (so roughly double). So if you have one at 3.71v and one at 3.69v, your voltage would be (3.71 + 3.69)/2 = 3.70v.

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) Scud UPDATE.

Also, batteries connected in parallel without protection circuit "automatically" even the SoC - so, basically, after connection, current from higher SoC battery flow to the lower SoC one.

That is, why it's so important to connect batteries at ~same State of Charge - very little differences won't do harm (and are unavoidable), but connecting full battery to 50% SoC one will result in very high current flow, which will:

1) probably burn out connection after few seconds, due to excessive heat, generated by unrestricted flow

2) if not, "age" batteries quite much, due to current out of sane limits

3) in worst case, make batteries to vent with flames/explode.

In case of connecting (in parallel) batteries of (almost) the same SoC (of course, when they are same type, same chemistry, same capacity etc), battery with higher SoC also charge battery with lower SoC, but only for a small part of second, without harmful long-time overcurrent.

Still testing but battery has surpassed 1445mAh, so it seems this battery might be the BLUE SCUD in a new package.

Well so far we got our good old SCUD's back, first test came in at 1530mAh (1534) so it is the same as the BLUE, all the battery's i tested can differ in capacity with as much as 30mAh so that's why it is the same.

Good (provisional) news. So given what you and others have taught us about Li batteries, it is also fatter by that small amount?

And were you not a little impatient yourself in reporting... :-)

Tnx

Yes the "yellow" is also a little bit fatter, and yes a bit impatient but we all here are depending on the new SCUD battery to give that extra runtime.

But the numbers are right this battery will be at 1500+mAh.
In approx 4hours i will confirm the mAh.

This battery is not to thick for our N900, it is however to thick for some other nokia models that use BL-5J.

Else i would not include it in the tests, All focus is on normal cover not mugen, mugen is for when you want to go BIG and make a dual battery for 2500+capacity (cheap good battery's) and up to 3000+mAh like the Dual SCUD.

Yea, that's great news, we got our old'good'scuds back! For quite a higher price, but well...

I've also ordered 2 new scuds some time ago, but it seems that dr_frost_dk got much faster delivery ;) thanks for testing it.

I'll also test mine, when they arrive - just out of curiosity. So, if anyone is interested in getting "donationware" dual-scuds, it seems that I'll have new ones available :)
