For calibrating the dual-scud, just leave your N900 without battery for one night and then fully charge and fully discharge. This worked for me, cause the chip was reset and started from 2056.
Nevertheless shadowjk meant to just check CSOC to reach 100% (normal capacity) and then do not fully charge up, so the capacity jump up is not so extreme.
Charge for about 2 1/2 hours, check CSOC to 100 and then charge a little bit more (less than 1 h). So next discharge will last for a bit more of capacity, but not dual capacity.

Did you stop BME during discharge?
This is not useful, as this was mentioned for using charge script,
But this may be answered better by Estel or shadowjk, _dr_frost_dk_.

Hope this helps.

For me calibrating dual-scud was piece of cake,
But now I can not get my single battery calibrated anymore. I think my problem is not living long enough at end of battery for setting EDV=1 ?

Just want to say that i have nothing to do with the charge script, i do admire it, but all my testing was done with equipment not the N900.

Yes - i stopped BME because i cannot get to less than 3250mv with it set to on, so i charge when BME is on, and after i disconnect the charger (after VDQ=1) i run "stop bme" and continue the described process for discharge.

Is this process wrong?

One more question for something i didn't understand - does it matter how i charge? for example - can i charge during backupmenu creating a backup, reboot (but not getting to a full charge where VDQ should become 1) and continue the process i described above?

Is there a reason to do the charge with the charge script instead of BME?

dr_frost_dk - from the schematic i see in the 2nd post, i don't understand why there are connections to the cover. soldering a wire between + and +, - and - of the two batteries is not the only thing needed?

dr_frost_dk 2012-02-22 00:23

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) SCUD is BACK!!!

Yes soldering a wire from + to + and - to - is the only thing that's needed, then of course connecting it to the circuit (plastic top/connector).

The wires going to my cover is my way of charging my N900, i can charge it via USB like normal, but i use the cheap charger from DX that i link to somewhere, i can of course use any charger just as long as i limit input power to 2500-3000mA, this means i can charge it up VERY fast if needed (normal charging is 500-1200mA)

Also i can use that charge port to power external components, like my DIY mini addon AMP (link in signature), or power a HIGH power LED for VIDEO rec with proper light, or IR LED for HIGH power night vision Video recording.
The charge port (2mm DC Nokia Plug, like all other nokia phones use) is connected DIRECTLY to the battery's before the circuit, this is why i can Charge/Drain high currents

I am also just user at this point, but I will try to explain.
The charger script may be useful for charging "better", but not for dual-scud. Or/and using H-E-N and charging at the same time needs it.
I would say your process is wrong. Just leave your devicew without battery overnight and charge normally (with BME until diode goes green). Discharge completely and maybe at the end of discharge process go into offline mode and dim screen not to use too much power, so you can reach EDV=1 (same counts for me ;)).
Your last scenario is weird or I do not understand. You just have to charge your battery fully (however, off/on/using). and then get a discharge process managed (down to about 3200mV) without any reboots. That should do the trick.
Hope this was/is correct (Estel?).

Any tips on how to disassemble the circuit board at the top of the scud battery? I can't figure out how to take the casing off.

sorry it's off topic but problem related to battery so asking here.
I have Bl 5j battery which comes with my another phone nokia 5233 problem is when i receive a call phone just switched off so i replace it in my N900. in N900 same problem appear so problem is in battery. Is there any way to solve this ?

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) SCUD is BACK!!!

Try another battery, you have loads to chose from, but always recommended is the SCUD.

I mean the protector circuit at the top of the battery, not the battery itself.

Well how to take it off is in post #2, both pictures and video, if you want to take the circuit out of the plastic top, well then you are kinda on your own, i have taken almost all of the battery's apart that i tested, and no 2 where the same in the design, first getting the plastic top of can vary upon if it is screwed on or held on by the battery "cover" tape/label, and then the circuit, here some are completely glued together and i even gave up on trying to take them apart, and others just pop out since they are held down by the plastic top.

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) SCUD is BACK!!!

Yeah, this one seems pretty stubborn. Do you think it's possible to solder it without removing the casing (the flat wire is still attached to the protector circuit), because I've had trouble getting it close enough to the battery so it can fit in the phone? I could always zombify a spare original bl-5j if that doesn't work though, since those have screws.

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) SCUD is BACK!!!

i think i have soldered some of those tricky ones before, i think it was a japod, but then again i think i used a spare "christgift" battery top & circuit on the dual japod's....

Has anyone tested this dealextreme battery ?

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/bl-5j-r...0i-more-112923

The battery is rated at 2850mah but looks to be of the same size as BL5J.

The battery capacity of BL5J has been upgraded to 1430mAh

I have four BL-5J batteries, which are charged by an external charger. After the batterie is empty and the device shut down i exchange the battery with a full one and switch on the device.

But i have the problem, that the percentage and the mAh indicator is wrong. The only value which is accurate is the voltage.

Iam using BME and the powerkernel v49.

Is there a way the have an accurate estimation of percentage and the left mAh without charging the battery inside the device?

You can try my battery meter, i made it because of the ignoring battery % left.

After many tries to start discharge at a point to get a successful calibration, I created this small script which other people might find useful:

It stops BME, and starts the charge21.sh script.
After that, every 30 seconds - the RSOC is being tested and if it reached 100%, it goes to sleep for another XXX seconds (you can change the value of the "delay" parameter - I used 480 seconds = 8 minutes) and after this period it kills the charge21.sh script which makes the charging stop.

This way you don't need to wait near the phone all the time until it reaches the charge point you want. I used this script to charge over night and it stopped charging 8 minutes after 100% and was ready for another discharge to ~3250mv.

Hey impeham, I'm glad that You managed to get it working. Your script is nice idea, thanks for it - dr_frost_dk, could You link impeham's last post in first page, just under my instructions on re-calibrating/measuring on device?

Also, sorry for late reply. I was totally out of "range" for last two weeks or so.

hmm.. still calibrating after many failed attempts.
I'm currently at 2823ma - still ~400 to go...

And, what happened with our "yellow friend" - is it non-existent now, or what?

dr_frost_dk 2012-03-18 20:12

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) SCUD is BACK!!!

No the yellow is apparently not in production any more, i do predict that the new Dream line is the same as the old blue scud's, of course wouldn't hurt if they where even better, Polarcell could make an even better battery they said considering the extra thickness of the Extra Capacity Scud's, but of course they are not going to make a production just for the last few N900 users (and other nokia phones where the extra thickness is not a problem)

Re: Battery Tests, Homemade 3000mAh XL Battery & Q&A (GOTO POST #1) SCUD is BACK!!!

I'm using the dual scud now, and when RSOC gets to around 12-13%, BME starts to beep and warn about low battery which becomes very annoying at such a point since i still have much more battery power (mv is around 3600) and i want to make these beeps happen at around 6-7% (or when mv gets to ~3400).

is it possible to modify BME somehow or its configuration to make this happen?

well the system i use gets around this, i use my battery meter, i have disabled the normal BME, no battery icon or anything, my battery meter puts the LED in "Error pattern" meaning it blinks red, an audio beep can be added if necessary, the led starts to blink at 5% left, but again this can be customised

the battery meter is in post #3, an N900 still charges fine with USB, it only uses the LED to indicate now, it fades orange and Green when finished like normally, but no pop up banner saying "charging" and no sound.

But my method of charging is using an external charger.

Well, i already made my widget for battery charge status using data from i2cget (see pic).

The only thing is missing is being able to charge through microusb - maybe i should run the "bq27200.sh" script as background process and stop BME? is there a better way you see to do this?

Thanks.

I just went to Ali Express to buy a 1445 Scud, but it seems like its out of stock and not manufactured anymore... But then they recommend the SCUD Blue DREAM (1460mAh) on the same page.

I couldn't find any tests on this one on the first post so it seems like there is a new guy on the block.

Has someone tested that batt?
