What kind of keyboard/mouse would be that? USB? Bluetooth? Both work on the same frequency. Be more specific please.

(They use a different frequency and different protocol). You may get more luck by using the *"H-E-N" USB project (rudimentry support for connecting USB devices to the n900) *beware it is still in development and not strictly ready for end-users it may damage your device and steal your chickens. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] External Keyboard Support - extkbd
OK, lets make things clear - both NOMIOMI and devildriven are talking about USB devices. If h-e-n supports them , so should extkbd. Till now every USB keyboard and mouse I have attached to my n900 worked, but those were wired ones. Never tried wireless.
Why not install h-e-n , buy F-F USB adapter, attach dongle to it and see if they are recognized? @johnel Quote:
If pair of dongle and peripheral reports itself as ordinary USB HID device and if dongle's power consumption is within n900 limits - 200mA (or if powered hub is used) I do not see why those devices shouldn't work. Or I am missing something. And btw - do not expect extkbd (or whatever software you want) to have a complete list of every keyboard model on earth, it is just not possible. When choosing keyboard model from the list use that one which is similar or close to yours. In most cases International pc105 should do the job. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] External Keyboard Support - extkbd
Yes, keyboard and mouse work in maemo. Assuming you have extkbd and extmou installed. Did the bluetooth icon stays blue after pairing? If not there is tools button in extkbd with an option to connect to paired bluetooth HID device. Are you able to type in xterm? Please provide dmesg and Xorg log after connecting your keyboard.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] External Keyboard Support - extkbd
I'm glad to see this thread is still going. Keep up the good work, freemangordon :)
Well, I've got some news to share: it seems that changing the layout to Intl, while selecting english as the device's input language, will get most diacritics working... Most. C Cedilla will come out as ć instead of C cedilla. Could that get fixed? If that gets fixed, there'll be no further need for an external layout file. It seems that it's a common problem with ubuntu. Also, I'm having trouble with Su8w's timeout period; once it turns off (two minutes of innactivity; that's like, go get some coffee, keyboard is off), it won't properly pair up with the device, instead getting stuck in the bluetooth light blinking/trying to pair up stage. The keyboard will only go back to work once the device has been rebooted. Other than that, the software is great. I'm typing this in QtMWeb and along with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, it brings the N900 experience to a whole new level. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] External Keyboard Support - extkbd
@devildriven You need bt input plugin enabled, instructions here:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Fremantle_Unsu...ds_and_mice.29 or as root (sudo gainroot) do: apt-get update apt-get install libconbtui0-hid above should enable it for you plus adding options to connect mouse and keyboard in stock bluetooth UI. And you will be the first to test libconbtui0-hid (besides me of course :D ) I was planning to release today new version of extkbd and extmou depending on the above package, but had no time. Anyway all of you expect updates in few days ;) @number41 Do you know if diacritics problem is fixed upstream? If so I can use it. Otherwise I will need someone's help to find where the problem is as my native alphabet is cyrillic. Feel free to post patches Re problem with bluetooth - looks like it is with bluetooth stack, nothing I can do there :( |

I'm judging stuff by my experience with Logitech wireless keyboards (not bluetooth but with dongles) and I couldn't get it to work at all with H-E-N. I eventually bought a PS3 bluetooth keyboard+trackpad and thanks to yourself & Qole I now have a working keyboard for maemo and Easy Debian. :) |
