Newbie Needs A Lot Of Help

 I am new to Linux and have a new N800. I need help installing Pidgin. I want to use my yahoo chat on my n800. Or is there something better I could use?
I need simple layman instructions beginning to end.
Thanks to the brave soul that offers help.

Start Application Manager and choose "Tools → Application catalogue" from the menu
Click "New".

almost there :)

when the Application Manager is open. Click on the title "Application manager" to display the applications menu (or press the menu hardware button)
Then select the Tools menu and then the Application Catalog... sub menu item

Ok got then into the application catalog but when it ask to refresh the list i click ok and it says unable to refresh list as shown. the web site told me On application manager's main screen, click "Browse installable applications". In the list that follows, find "instantmessaging" and click it.
