StumbleUpon Tool bar in MicroB [How-to with Queen BeeCon Widget]
 

Hello everyone :)

For some time now I have been wanting a StumbleUpon toolbar for MicroB as I have been an avid Stumbler for a few years.

Now with a little testing and the help from Sash and Agogdata we have now perfected a method for launching StumbleUpon in MicroB with a similar experience to the Desktop add-on using the AWESOME Queen Beecon Widget creator.

It should be noted that this is NOT an add-on for MicroB but a method to Launch the default web browser and browse the web whilst keeping the StumbleUpon tool bar at the header of the webpage, like so...

The tool bar does not really retract from the area displayed on screen as this is a header for the webpage itself and not apart of MicroB. The Tool bar will roll up as you scroll down the page. The Buttons are also displayed as the StumbleUpon team designed them, so they may seem a little small for finger friendly use but they are still perfectly functional with the Finger nail and or Stylus in standard view. (You can still Zoom in if you wish?)

Installation Steps:

Adding the SU Icon

Download the Stumble.png image Below and save it to /home/user/.queen_beecon_dir

Creating the Queen BeeCon Widget:

Return to the N900 home screens and add a new QueenBeeCon Widget (Desktop Menu > Add Widget > QueenBeeCon Widget).

Click on the Spanner Icon of the new QBWidget and enter the following settings

Type: Snippet
Command Selection: Blank

Widget Size & position tuning
Width: 82
Height:82


Statuses Backgound colours and imaging
Check (Tick) Hide BG and Hide Click BG

Command Title settings
Change the queen-beacon.png to the name of image you saved to the .queen_beecon_dir location (If you have not changed this then enter Stumble.png).

Position: Hidden


Command Results settings
Delete the line queen-beeconresimg.png and leave feild blank.

Now click on "Advanced" and select Go Pro and enter the following script in to the Command Test Drive field...

Then tap Update, return to settings the, Save and to exit the Desktop Menu. The Icon Snippet should now be set up for you to launch MicroB with the StumbleUpon tool bar from the desktop.

and what does the chat cloud stand for ? with your nickname beside it ? does it come with some built-in messenger ?

also a waaay side question : you have (mirror) the front cam application, how is its picture ?

Coo, I beleive that I have managed to recreate the error...

As the code in the original post is viewed it only shows the 2 lines of text. When I try to enter what is shown I am getting the same Out-put.

When entering the whloe command...


dbus-send --system --type=method_call --dest=com.nokia.osso_browser /com/nokia/osso_browser/request com.nokia.osso_browser.load_url string:"http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1RzmGZ/www.google.com/m%3Fclient%3Dms-nokia-maemo


And hit testdrive the Beecon launches fine. Hope this helps? Let me know :)

The Chat cloud is more like the Youtubes comment box than an actual IM client. It allows you to see the review of the page from the original Stumble Upon user who "Found" the website and added it to the database. You can also read/leave comments for other SU friends and users too.

The Mirror App does not have the best resolution tbh, but it is cool if you ever wanted to know whay you would look like through night-vision goggles in broad daylight ;)

I will try this with Bing and yahoo later to see how other browsers work.

I've tried it again with this command and I still get the same error.

Do I need to install anything to get the dbus commands working?

Hi sash, I have compared the two scripts with what is in my phone and the first post and I believe there is a typo. My bad, sorry.

Hi AgogData

To remove "No Title", a comand title with No name. Go back in to the settings of the snippet and click edit command. Tap in the title field so that you can see the flashing curser and press the space bar and then hit save.

It's kind of hard to tell from the screenshot but this should create a "blank" title field and remove the words No Title.

If "No Title" is still shown, the command title should update if you launch the StumbleUpon toolbar. Failing that you may need to go into the settings and manually select the blank title from Command Selection.

An easier way to hide the title is to change the "Command Title Settings" in the QBW settings.

You can change the position to 'Hidden'
