Re: Why do you want/need the N9?

Probably people dont want specifically the N9,but something better than the N900, and that "better" takes heavily into account what gives us maemo over the alternatives.

And that is what promises so far N9, better hardware and a close enough to maemo OS, so everyone probably is interested on it (but to the point of buying it is another thing)

Re: Why do you want/need the N9?

I always thougt that N1000 would have sounded better, either way what ever its called ill prob get one after about 6 months, because it'll be step 5 of 5 harmatan meego.
but saying that 6 months is a long time in terms of technology and the N900 will be a hard act to follow

support without ditching it after 6months
and it should be free to everyone of us beta tester n900 owners
after all.... they used us as lab rats to develop the damn thing!

No. They said that the N8 was their last Symbian N Series phone.

Specifications are still a pack of self-contradictory rumours.

[Pessimist]
Not to rain on anyones parade but historical data (ala n900)
show the rain is somewhat predictable.

Rather difficult to get interested in plonking cold cash down
for vaporware that:

1. is not due to be released any time soon. :(

2. even when it is 'released' will not be in stores (globally)
for anywhere from 3 to 8 months. :(:(

3. even when it arrives will need at least 4months
of firmware tweaking to be a reliable platform. :(:(:(

So we are discussing something that
in the most optimistic scenario might be in your hands
and to where the n900 is now sometime in 2012.
oh, wait -
the end of the planet may occur before this thing sees the light of my day.

key words: wishful, thinking :o

Important s cause the N8 is N8-00. A future N8-01 would still be an N8.

The reasons why I want the N9 is because I hope the N9 is better rounded than the N900, and more importantly, I've already had the N900 for a year and I'd like to see the next iteration.

The reasons why I do not want the N9 is because it is input challenged (no stylus, no gloves) and someone hinted at a locked in battery which, if accurate, is pretty much a deal breaker for me. I have more than one battery for most my devices. I just resurrected my pressure sensitive, stylus integrated, once upon a time expensive centrino based tabletPC yesterday by replacing the battery.

Re: Why do you want/need the N9?

Well folks, it's just sooner or later.

New technology will make it obsolete. Not even the 32Gb or Maemo can help. Definitely the ARM® Cortex™-A8 won't be able to support newer, heavy tasks in the future. We're not 4G, and maybe servicing would cost more then the N9xxx?

I guess that's how technology works, right? "the only thing constant in life is change". I'm not too keen to change my N900. It's the best phone I've used, but that's the sad reality.

For me now, I don't want/need the N9!
