[Request] wifi hotspot

Is it possible to make an application for sharing wifi on N900?
I mean I have a wifi router and I have my N900 connected to it through wifi. Is it possible to make N900 work as a hotspot?
Something similar to mobile hotspot application but instead of sharing GPRS or 3G connection

What's the point?

Re: [Request] wifi hotspot

this way I can give access to others without letting them access my router and therefore not sharing my WPA key.
it's also a good way to extend the router's range

I doubt very much that the power of the wifi adapter inside the n900 would do anything to increase the range of the router.

Re: [Request] wifi hotspot

if the router sends a signal for lets say 70 meters and n900 adapter range is 30 meters and you are 60 meters from the router, you can give access to another device at 90 meters from the router, something which was impossible before

Re: [Request] wifi hotspot

Take this option 90 m router range+ laptop (wifi bridge)+ X m(X depends on laptop adapter range)

Re: [Request] wifi hotspot

Even bridge is incorrect term for what you seem to be looking for since wifi bridge is generally understood as connecting a wired network to wifi. I don't think that doing wifi-to-wifi bridging with a single radio is even possible.

In any case N900 cannot operate in basestation mode (read through the "N900 as wifi hotspot" -threads for more info)

Then there is mesh networking where all the nodes route traffic for each other and there can be multiple paths to the internet from the local mesh.

Ad-Hoc mode mesh networking could probably made to work on the N900 (in fact I intend to look into it in the Mobile HotSpot project when I happen to have time and inspiration) but it will require mesh protocol support from your wifi basestation/router as well.
