I rarely see proper bug reports. More like: "Itīs not working please fix"..."Fix what?". And itīs always wonderful to see that when single user has problem, itīs THE most important problem in the world and of course all the other users are having this same problem also. What are you talking about fully reporting? Off course itīs users problem if it starts to happen on his device when he has made some changes to system or installed applications. Users job is to give instructions as much as possible to help themselves because we are not talking about some car or washing machine here. On the other hand I think that Nokia could have done better job on sanboxing widgets. On contrary this probably would have meant that they should be more closed down :| and not so widely usable as they currently are. Give devels free hands on fooling around and user come back to you because of bad quality of apps developed...nice :| |
Re: New Media player home widget
well i think devs like nicolai are the blood of my N900 ... without all of the extra apps my N900 would be bog standard and pretty unconfigurable and unusable so thanks to nicolai and all other devs who take their own time to create apps for us all to use!!!
Nokia should give a couple of devs like nicolai and mohammadag a paid job upgrading maemo and creating apps, they would probably do a better job of it than Nokia does (they do at the moment anyway) |
Re: New Media player home widget
Iīm not denying here that there is amazing individuals and devels around here, like Nicolai, but Iīm just trying to show that there is some responsibility on user side also. Itīs not Nokia's problem to take care of badly coded applications that leak memory and make your system stall or behave oddly.
Currently it looks like it might have been better to Nokia to NOT DO ANY WIDGETS AT ALL. That would probably help some user to understand that the problem is not on Nokia's side totally. |
Re: New Media player home widget

Re: New Media player home widget
Very useful widget. It works better than the Nokia one, especially in connection with headphone daemon.
But, recently I have noticed a noticeably increased rate of battery drain. One of the suspects in this is this widget. I am wondering if anybody else has felt this or whether some other app is causing this... |
Re: New Media player home widget
Hi ejasmudar;
it is difficult for me, to see an impact on battery life, while developing I often have to restart the device which takes battery power too. Please report back if you found out something. BTW, I uploaded a new version 0.3 with a better dialog for playlist selection which supports the "imported" playlists now. nicolai |
Re: New Media player home widget
i have just checked for a few hours and i feel that after removing the widget, there is a marked improvement in battery life. Maybe it has something to do with media being paused instead of stopped???

Re: New Media player home widget
just a little bug to report,
MPW is showing the last video i watched and tries to play it but closes, rather than showing the music only |

With a clean n900 on PR1.2, I could take still images while listening to music. With a just-completely-reflashed N900 on PR1.3, music is paused when you open your lense cover and will continue playing ONLY if you close the cover or close the camera application. Many bug reports related to music daemon were made before PR1.3. You can see for yourself in this case if Nokia official developers have done their job properly to fix the bugs. N900 is said to be a multitasking monster, but to lessen some bugs, Nokia devs stop music daemon from multitasking with camera app!? Should I blame myself again for not reflashing PR1.2 instead?Which widget do you suggest should take the blaim:confused: You sound like those common smart Nokia who prefer smart excuses to smart solutions. |
Re: New Media player home widget
The more I read posts by this Mr. so smart slender the more I hope he is not one of those clever-making-excuses nokia devels. We normal users have had enough a** from mookia support to try to explain what problems we have with the nokia devices, thanks.

Hey, nicolai.
i just got time to test your media-player-widget. It does what it should :P But when I hit the lable, some popup should appear(playlist I guess), but it crash right instantly....?? Also I changed the design of the widget with adapted and slightly modded bigzy graphics (credits to biggzy) (oh ja,... transparent png seems not to work) But i noticed they are not placed correctly... (see screenshot) http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/337...1011318321.png http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/8...1011318323.png Any help ? Also it seems not all of my covers are shown. (partly used mussorgsky to get them) - personally I would like the idea of taking the widget theme right out of the active them folder. If that is somehow doable for you... if not, wouldn't it be simpler if there is only 1 image for the player header. (atm there is player.png and label_background.png) ...and place the cover and the text on top of that 1 header image. LOL, everytime we meet, it seems like I want to give you more work.^^ just relax, take your time. your great, anyways! regards! - I have attached the skin files I'm trying to use. //EDIT also included: a player_header.png ...if one knows how to use it. if so, plz tell me ;) |
Re: New Media player home widget
Hi nightshift,
I can not reproduce the crash, do you have any playlists? I have an idea, why some album arts aren't shown, I will test this. And for the theme, I think the player.png has to be 64 pixels wide, and than the label_background.png must fill the remaining space, so that the width of player.png and label_background.png matchtes the width of the backward + play + forward image. nicolai |

Re: New Media player home widget
If your trying to use PNG's from biggzy's zip? I think they are a different size! as his mod was for the out of the box widget!
Same as the transparent png's which are floating around. You need to Mod Nicola's widget PNG's. by the way this wonderful widget works great with transparent png's. Kind regards Qosmio http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/...110-201903.png |
Re: New Media player home widget
I surly edited bigzzys graphics, but I just took the wrong dimensions for the player.png.
Will have a look at it later on. now I got to make party :D @lollo Thanks |
Re: New Media player home widget
Hey nicolai.
still working on that one ? what about make the widget use the graphics from theme folder? or use alternative layouts, like some round media player... |

Re: New Media player home widget
adding one more issue. i dunno why this hasn't been pointed out earlier. normally when i am using the media player or the media player's default widget, incoming mails/ IMs/SMSs wont stop the music. it wud just make a mild beedp. I guess this is a must, esp for people who use IMs SMSs Emails! is there anyway u can make a quick change to get this going? pleaseeeee

Re: New Media player home widget
I tried to compile from source your widget and it seems impossible for me... To much dependencies jungle... What I wish to do is to have a widget that shows only the art cover on the desktop. If you have anytime maybe you could do one Nicolai??? Well anyway thanks a lot for this widget.

Re: New Media player home widget
Hi phap,
I wil see what I can do. "... that shows only the art cover on the desktop" No player controls? Nicolai |
