is there some kind of equalizer plugin for the default media player, the srs software on my pc can make the music come to life on my eterna iems but no matter how good the headsets are the n900's default player lacks that punchy feeling a good equalizer can give,

any clues? i'd rather not install a different program as i like the default media player

Mate all I can say is, unlucky for the default media player. No equalizer.

But!
13th of December is the date to watch. New version of Instinctiv will be released which will have an equalizer and craps on the default the media player (as far as music goes anyway).

so besides instinctiv there is no other player with an equalizer ?

i wish there were such thing... im used to play around with EQ settings on my nokias (last one i had with one was the N97)... N900 its an awesome machine, but lacks a few things ehre and there... and the EQ in the default media player (which, for me, rocks!) is oen of them.

i'm trying symfonie's eq right now but it uses =/>55% cpu... that's a lot :(

symfonie has... but not sure if you like folder managed music playbacks...

Pre PR1.2, there was a MAFW equalizer created that worked with the default media player. It also ate up a lot of CPU however as it did the audio post-processing via software.

I tried it briefly and it worked as advertised but I removed it due to the CPU usage and the fact that installation required removal of the mp-fremantle-generic package.
