Your n900 is heating because,if you dont do the following steps, the system sets the CPU to its maximum (1150 mhz):

1) go to /system/etc/
2) search for files oc-profile-***-***.conf
3) rename one of these in "power.conf"

Personally I've renamed "oc-profile-250-500.conf" and increased by leafpad the 500 limit to 750 limit and is perfect ;)

Note that, everytime you will use wifi in nitdroid, the n900 will still heat a bit ;)

I think you need to discharge battery in maemo, then fully charge the battery and try to boot in nitdroid without charger

I can easily imagine users on that path asking themselves, "well, if this is so dangerous, what is the best thing for me to do?

Well if users ask about what is the best thing they could do, can't they scroll a few lines under the warning message, where it covers everything?
That's what warnings were meant to be for, but I'm pretty 100% sure the innocent yet obligatory warning message has nothing to do with such posts, the main reason is LAZINESS. People just cannot expect being spoon-fed at each step.

It would be a different issue however, if the user is asking about an issue that was not covered in the WIKI/FAQ, or that was covered deep in this thread which has grown significantly. I would actually love answering that.

I didn't mean that soon xD, I've got examinations you know...

Anyway to avoid drama, it's basically just going to be my first public NITDroid build released (still did not contact e-yes) customised to the deep bits for full stability/speed, with all the goodies installed. Based on 2.3.7, with camera-hal working.

Oh and a new sparkling installer built with PyQT :D.

the difference is you guys want the update while ammyt spends his time making the update which is very time consuming and he does all this for free so give the guy a break and just be patient

Huh? So you want me to waive my official CIE examinations for your pleasure, for granted? If you're having exams and spending all of your day here, then you're an idiot.

Pardon me, but I have a life.

No not much, I still use my same i5 machine, still using scratchbox, Ubuntu x64 etc. etc. etc.

You see phrasing the question really matters.

Can somebody please remind me why multiboot is not the best option? I read it somewhere but forgot the reason why.
I got this using search: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=66317 and it got me thinking again, is multiboot really risky?
I've been without NITDroid for months now and have been waiting for ammyt's latest update on migrating everything to U-boot but I'm itching to dual-boot again.

The answer to your question is in the thread you linked. I'm not sure what type of flash is used for the area the kernel is stored in, but worst case you'll get 10,000 writes out of it (it might take a lot more). Multiboot will only flash a new kernel when you change your choice, so do you really think you'll use multiboot anywhere near the 10,000 times it will take to wear out the flash where the kernel is stored? So no, it isn't really risky.

vetsin 2012-04-22 14:15

Re: The Grand NITDroid Thread - NITDroid ICS Upgrade!

That's also how i see it, based on their discussion. But if I recall correctly, ammyt's working on using U-boot instead of Multiboot because of certain risks. I hope he drops by to clarify this.

I don't think we should be distracting him too much right now, his exams are coming. :)
It's completely understandable if he puts NITDroid development to the side though it would be great he could still drop by from time to time. :p

Actually I am working on u-boot, you can see it here: http://forum.nitdroid.com/index.php?topic=73.0

Now working on camera... wait for a more noob-like guide from blackjack4it... it will also add a bootmenu option

thanks vakkov!
i haven't tried running NITDroid in an SD card (don't have one on my N900). isn't it laggy?

vakkov 2012-04-23 16:09

Re: The Grand NITDroid Thread - NITDroid ICS Upgrade!

depends on the card ... i have to notice that uboot can also (as multiboot) load from emmc - you just have to repartition the device - my brother's n900 works with method 2 and u-boot http://wiki.maemo.org/Nitdroid_easy_install_on_EMMC

Has anyone seen this mod for the HP Touchpad?

WebCM9...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQB4Z7ziXpk

It adds a webOS style card and swipe system to ICS task-switcher. Looks very cool.

Would be great if we had it on nitdroid too?
