Re: The Grand NITDroid Thread - NITDroid ICS Upgrade!

since we are all using the same device(N900) with same config's... isn't it possible to make a single flashable Combo-Image or ROM that consists of "Latest Kernels and all the OS supported by N900 Nitdroid, BackupMenu, Nemo, Meego, Fedora & LXDE(inside maemo of course) H-E-N, 720p rec & playback... etc"

in that way all we'l need is a reflash & the Supertablet is On the Go..

no dependencies issue no searchin for correct kernet settings that goes with Nitdroid & Backup menu & 720p rec & playback... :)

Not exactly. There are several different hardware revisions (hence some can be overclocked up to 1150 MHz and some only up to 800).

That said, this may still be possible.

Re: The Grand NITDroid Thread - NITDroid ICS Upgrade!

I think the biggest problem here is that most (if not all) of those OS's are not finished. Someone would have to create a whole new image every time an update was released for one of them.

You'd also have to have an eMMC image as well as rootfs so that would restrict peoples freedom on partition sizes and install locations and means smaller MyDocs for everyone.

I also dont know if all these operating systems can be installed on eMMC so you might need a image for SD cards instead.

You're right.. i see the same issue. I had a corrupt eMMC as well, and i had to use gParted in Linux Live CD to get it all fixed (a stale NFS handle). I will however wait for ammmyt to push this system over to u-boot.

p.s. After a crash of the said type, a simple fsck reveals errors on /opt/(etc). I wonder..

michaaa62 2012-01-19 16:25

Re: The Grand NITDroid Thread - NITDroid ICS Upgrade!

Stale NFS handle indicates file system inconsistency or corruption, you should fix it with fsck. Use options -af or even -r to repair this.

i hav only 900mb free in installable application memory. 4gb free in mass memory and 56mb in rootfs. should i install nitdroid? will any of these hamper my nitdroid? or should i install nitdroid after flashing my emmc with 8gb and 20gb emmc. what benefit should i get then?

..i'll suggest that you take a full (opt/root) backup using backupmenu. Then reflash with a 5gb or 8gb Vanilla ROM. Then you can partition your eMMC (or NOT!). And you should restore the (opt/root) backup. All will be well be better.

- No no..
I've dealt with such reboot-loops, crashes, total f'ing disasters..! The method i stated works very well for me if i ever screw something up. As michaaa62 states, FSCK is very important after any such jugglery.

:)

I also do fsck and all but no way. Even i tried with backupmenu to mount as mass memory but no result.

Choose:
- the benefit of the doubt
- the benefit of yet _another_ reflash

Geez, your device is probably in the meantime more (flash) worn out than Jenna James! :D

dont listen to the idiots sugesting a reflash before doing this because not everything needs reflash people, there are better and simpler solutions sometimes...

nvm, even with the new power.conf i keep getting random reboots.

i checked gthe verion and its 2.3.4.

what it seems strange is that the reboots only happen qheen the device is "cold" when it starts felling hot, reboots stop and becomes a stable device, lol am i crazy?

cheers

Re: The Grand NITDroid Thread - NITDroid ICS Upgrade!

Even with the modified power.conf, I still experience reboots at the same point of the game like before and in general it feels like it takes longer to launch certain applications than before and it gets hot quicker, but maybe I'm imaging?

do I need to quote your own signature?
flashing should always be the last solution and I have posted the most likely fix for this problem more than once, even on this thread so i don't see how you and other people being too lazy to find a simple, already posted and most likely solution makes ME a douche?

Re: The Grand NITDroid Thread - NITDroid ICS Upgrade!

Hi guys,

I am experiencing an annoying problem with my Nitdroid install (edit: last N12 version).
I get the following message "Root filesystem mmcblk0p5 NOT available! Guru Meditation #00000025.62017712" when I choose the Nitdroid entry in Multiboot WITH the external memory card plugged. If I unplug it, Nitdroid just start fine.

As you can imagine, I installed Nitdroid when the external memory was not present. I could just reinstall it with the memory card plugged but I was wondering maybe there is a smarter way to fix this problem.

My multiboot entry is like this:

Quote:

...
ITEM_MODULES=ext3
ITEM_DEVICE=${EXT_CARD}p5
ITEM_FSTYPE=ext3
ITEM_FSOPTIONS=rw,noatime,errors=remount-ro
I replaced ${EXT_CARD}p5 with mmcblk0p5 but it doesn't change anything...which doesn't really surprise me since the error message indicates that the soft knows what to do but the resource is not usable ("NOT available", see above). Any idea on how to fix this ?

Thanks in advance for your help !
Vlad

Now, with all this SOPA, PIPA and ACTA going around, sites that stop working suddenly are weird cases :D
Hope it's just maintenance.

:p

- Naw, no, neyt, nein..
That makes you no douche, it's saying "Don't listen to idiots who ..(etc.)" that does make you so. Intelligent discourse can be civil too, plus, ad hominem commenting in forums.. doesn't get it too far. We both are guilty of it..

As for my signature, you should smack it back to me - i was clearly ignorant about the case you presented. I was helped solve my various problems with the device by michaaa62, ammyt, Estel, etc. at various points of time (what exceptional patience they have with n00b-boobs like me) - i am no expert, and am learning. The process is expedited if i am corrected.. i actually learned from you. So thank you.

Anyway, i wrote quoting you because i felt you could point out the fact that flashing was not necessary - more elegantly. I was attempting to help, and you obviously helped better, and the next time, i can redirect another poor soul to the link you pointed to, rather than suggesting a reflash. Definitely this is how we'll all grow to learn more.. and it'll be much nicer without the condescension, just that.

I will totally understand if you still feel that saying "..don't listen to idiots who.." - we are, after-all digital acquaintances, and we can both be jerks if we wanted to, even if that's not who we really are.

..long post, i know.. still.
Cheers.
;)

{edit: I just saw that this is far from the perimeter of this thread; my apologies. So i'll end by reading you reply, if any. Thanx!}

Put it into /usr/share as root.
The symlink to /home/usr/share is broken and will get wiped anyway if you invoke nitdroid-uninstaller in some future.

Though you may want to edit the moveroot script to move the folders to /home/opt/usr/share which will not get touched by nitdroid stuff any time (soon???), hopefully!

do it like this ${INT_CARD}p2 (mine is at p2, change ur to p5)

your nitdroid will boot up with card in it.

Put whichever you want of those files into /home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid. You will need the kernel and the N12_UMay.tar.bz2 as minimal download.

The link of mornage to the dropbox is three posts down

I have put all the NITdroid files I have on dropbox whilst the NITDroid servers are being swapped.

I have N12, N12-Update, N14 and 2 kernels. They can all be found here.

If you use these files, I have one request!!! Sign up for dropbox using this link so I get more space ;D

N14 is Android 4.0. AKA Ice Cream Sandwich.

It is experimental and unstable so use at your own risk.

...If you don't want the red light on. It is because the BMS in Android is not complete yet, so it thinks the battery is dead when it is booting - hence the red light.
