Re: [TUTORIAL] Ubuntu, Fedora and Archlinux using Easy-Debian
Hey Juan,
I am not trying to break yourt balls here, but I do have a question that has been bothering me since yesterday: Have you yourself actually thorougly tested the setups you are promoting here? To be honest: I think you could provide a little more information and warning to the people that follow your guide and I mean more than just "Install at your own risk". It's not that it will brick your n900, but having to reboot because you loose your mounhtpoints (/MyDocs) and you qumount doesn't do the job properly, it also means that if you want to listen music, right after having played with one of the setups here, you'll be in for a wait untill the tracker finishes re-indexing all your music files. Those kind of things should be communicated. If you didn't know yourself, it illustrates why I wrote this post. To illustrate what I mean: I noticed the whole window parsing module was missing when I installed Arch, I ask you about it, and without saying, it turns out you update the guide on the first page. Why don't you share that information with the people who are reading page 12 of your thread? I started with Arch linux, because that was the only thing that had my interest, actually E17 has my interest. But another guy asked about the Xephyr keyboard-focus on Ubuntu or Fedora and has not been answered. My guess is now, it's not working there either. Apart from that, I guess you need to be more precise in your listing of steps to take. Need to leave a non-rooted terminal aside? Make sure you communicate that. Need root-access in order to perform a task? Make sure the people who read know they need to change to root. So, just to be sure: I am not complaining here. I spent a free day yesterday, playing around with your findings, googling for a solution for the keyboard focus-thing, and I have enjoyed myself. So I hope you can take my post as constructive criticism :) Keep up the good work! |

Re: [TUTORIAL-WIP] Ubuntu, Fedora and Archlinux using Easy-Debian
EXCELLENT WORK!
All worked great. I tested all 3. The ONLY issue I have is that archlinux/e17 is poor. its black/grey and white and nothing is readable. only one ugly button on the bottom. I did a pacman lxde. looked ugly. done pacman fluxbox - I tried click and hold for menu - didnt work. has anyone tried more windows managers? I would like to try Gnome but arcn and fedora don't have it available. maybe I'm wrong? |
