Viewing Web Videos Outside Of Browser

Hi,

I'm looking for an application or media player that allows me to type a URL of a video and play it externally outside of the browser. Why? Because when I view Youtube and similar site videos on my n900 via the browser, it's often sluggish. I am aware of a Youtube app for the n900 but I request an application that allows entry of URLs from other websites too.

Any ideas? I tried KMplayer, entered a URL, clicked the tick button and watched it buffering but nothing happens after...

Thanks

Try KMplayer, but use mplayer as your player (Select Player -> mplayer).

make sure you have mplayer installed.

Hi, I wish to view some videos that are not on Youtube.

KMPlayer and MPlayer is installed. I have set the player in KMPlayer to Mplayer but it does not help... I see no video. The same thing happens with SMPlayer... :(

VLC could possibly help...
But if kmplayer doesn't work, I guess neither will vlc.

I do not see VLC listed in app manager, do you have a link?

Gets to 15% then says end of file so looks like a dummy URL. I am using WM Recorder (Demo) to caputure the real URLs which now works fine in KMPlayer. WM Recorder is not free software though so can anyone recommend a free URL capture program?

RTMPDump is the best, if not the easiest to use. It's CLI only, and is available in the repos, so you can record the streams on the N900.

EDIT: I should add that the youtube-dl script works for sites other than YouTube (and does infact make use of RTMPDump), and is easier to use. It doesn't work for all sites, though, so it's less flexible.

EDIT2: Maybe one day I will add support for some pR0n sites in cuteTube. ;) :D
