Thankfully the community has made maemo5/n900 a d*mn good device to own.

Without Linux, open source software and Developers maemo would have been an even worse failure.

All the effort that Nokia has put into maemo5 has been wasted because Nokia decided MeeGo was "cooler" to develop.

Nokia has wasted a whole year of investing in a technology that was well on its way to be serious competitor in todays smartphone market.

Essentially Nokia has reset their progress back to 2009 and everyone else has gained that year to improve thier products.

Right, chess. Hairsplitting at its best.

There is a bugs site that takes small enhancements. There is a brainstorm that takes user requests. Few bug/enhancements have been implemented and the brainstorm is a bloody joke. Nothing there has been taken seriously by Nokia.

None of the top requests have been implemented, easy or complex, voted or not. Hundreds of votes, zero effort. The customers have done way more and better than the company.

This isn't nitpicking. I didn't think Nokia would set up polls on enhancements then ignore them. I didn't think Brainstorm would be a joke. To me, this a major letdown.

And please people, let's not mix what other OSs have with what other phones have. It's not too mucy to ask to have what dumb phones had 8 years ago on a 2K flash chip.

How many requests were simply ignored after many a plea? Lock the damn phone on ring, Nokia, the sensor isn't enough. Admit your blunder and fix it. But no, our pain is lower on Nokia's list than the almighty UI guidelines. This is like forcing people to wear T-shirts in -20 winter because coats look bad.

And spare me the mobile computer stuff. It has a phone, it should work.

Buy the new BMW with A/C! *

*) Doesn't really work.

It's a pity because one thing we don't need are Developers and commercial third-parties ceasing to support maemo5 - a platform that is here and now and actually used by people.

Meego is many, many months away on the n900 and future Nokia device.

In cases it won't work you may as well go blame Skype.

If it is possible making 2 way video calls out of a car in the Vietnamese countryside with full continuous high quality sound, then tell me what exactly is not working?
(intercontinental to latest Windows Skype Client)

If it is now finally possible to make 2 way video calls to an OSX pc running the recently released 5.0.0.6378,)

Have you read my bug report at all? I selected few devices which were able to make video calls between them. N900 was not able to video chat with them. Where is a problem? For me on N900 side. And is it Skype.com or Nokia.com problem is thing to decide for Nokia.com side as they provide me software with "you can video chat on skype now". The only answer was "tell all your contacts to upgrade to latest win32 version nevermind what kind of device or OS they are using".

Say that to the cheerful, alcohol filled UK guys and girls at night time in the High Street, the further up north you go, the less cloths they wear when going out in wintertime, exactly because jackets are for "whuz"/sissies ... :) So some people do see this kind of thinking as arguments :D

Not that I condone or recommend such thinking, it does exist ...

just my 1 cent

Every single chess app for the N900 sucks.

I did the ChessWatch site (known worldwide) for six years

Worked for Garry Kasparov in Moscow.

Worked for ICC.

Had the only daily chess newscast in the world.

Anyone disagrees? What is your experience? Rating? History of online play?

Yea but where is your proof??? Haha just kidding. I was just using chess to point out to all the people who say "did you do your research" that with so many half baked apps, there really was no way to do your research. And that is not a dig at the wonderful developers here who have kept this device going while they could have been designing for profit elsewhere. It is just a dig at Nokia regarding how in so many ways they failed the community.

Actually there's a bug against gpodder about gpodder's settings not getting saved by backup utlity, iirc that bug depends on a bug against the backup utility, so no, the Backup utility isn't bugfree either :)
