On a general note: If you already like/use rockbox, you can go over to rockbox.org and show some love there. I mean, I "just" ported it, the whole rockbox software contains the combined work of many talented engineers. The IRC channel is frequented by most developers. Please don't ask for feature requests of the maemo port though ;) |
Re: Porting rockbox to n900
I listened to this on the drive to my in-laws' and I was impressed with the power of the player. It blew my mind. It obviously needs work for the N900, but I wondered about playlists.
I have my iTunes playlists in the folder where Nokia Multimedia Transfer puts them, and I can navigate to them easily enough, but is there a nicer way to do this? Is there a way to change the default directory? Should I make a symlink from .rockbox/Playlists to iTunes Music ? edit: can't find it, and rockbox doesn't seem to find it either. I probably missed this in earlier posts. |
Re: Porting rockbox to n900
this player is incredible, the amount of options is insane. Im using it now as my music player. Thanks a lot for your hard work, saves me from buying a sansa fuze! Is there anyway I can load .m3u playlists? Ive imported my itunes database via salling mediasync and was wondering if i could get my playlists.
Its a little difficult to navigate but i think ill get used to it. But so far it works great. Thanks again! |
Re: Porting rockbox to n900
yeah really it looks simplistic but powerful :D
is there any support for BlueTooth headset like BH-505 or bh-905 specially xD ? I would switch to RB speclially now that instinctiv is pretty much dead for now on Maemo :( This is just the opposite of Instinctiv but so powerful :o |
Re: Porting rockbox to n900
so the only way i can get thid app working is to create a new folder with the song in it ?

EDIT: Please use the following patch, instead: http://pastebin.com/qTH1W2Qc I've removed the extra/redundant code and I've also bound the N800's other keys: back; decrease; increase; and fullscreen to, what I think, are sensible defaults looking at the structs in keymap-touchscreen.c. The keys - with the exception of the retturn key - are only bound if building for Maemo 4. This is because the N900 doesn't have an escape button nor a fullscreen button and the N900 also offers more keys; I don't know if my binding of the volume keys would be appreciated on the N900 |

Re: Porting rockbox to n900
Thank you thank you thank you thank you for this! I'm a Rockbox user from way back, and this really made my year.
Those of you complaining about a lack of finger-friendliness can change the menu's font in "Settings / Theme Settings / Font". Unfortunately 35pt is the largest I can find (it's included with the maemo build) and it's just not quite big enough. Still an improvement though. I tried to make a bigger font using the Rockbox Font Converter, but it uses Convbdf, which doesn't seem to be able to convert any larger fonts due to a small cache size. If anyone knows another way or has some bigger Rockbox fonts somewhere we really need them for the N900. |

Just wanted to pass on my thanks for porting this to the N900, I had an I-audio X5 years ago and loved it so this suits me perfectly. Much better than the default player.
I'm not too fond of the Cabbie theme though so I made something similar to what I had on the X5, a WMP theme. It's not totally finger friendly (tapping progress bar) but it does the job for me. I can post the files if anyone wanted it. Screenshot below. http://i52.tinypic.com/216kis.png Kjodrisc |
Re: Porting rockbox to n900
I like the look of that and would be grateful for the files- any tips on making or converting themes?

Re: Porting rockbox to n900
I miss the mooamp theme from winamp from back in the day.

Just attach them to your post, you'll save time :-)

it was already set to 35 adobe-helvetica by default, but the 35 pt bold version of that is is a little bigger i suppose. 48 or 60 would be great! |

Whilst a song is playing go to show track info, then scroll the screen up( so you can see whats below) it starts to do it then the application just closes. I'm on the N900 pr1.3 I don't have the power kernel installed. Can anybody else replcate this this? |
Re: Porting rockbox to n900
Well, great player. Using it as default right now, and thanks to kjodrisc for the new skin, it looks really cool.
A bug that i found is that when you scroll database>tracks with the sidebar it works great (btw really respnsive and fast way to browse the library, a little hard to use and even see at the beginning but great when you get the hang of it), but when you try to use it on the playlist it closes rockbox. |
Re: Porting rockbox to n900
A couple of bugs if I select another track and try click the previous button it sometimes and It would help if the RockBox port automatically scanned the emmc storage are for music files and going through all the directories on first boot was a bit of a pain and also turning the volume up and down when the screen is off via the volume keys is not possible and up to a point the on board qwerty keyboard crashes the port and if this is not supported yet.
Please can you tell me how to disable it thanks, I will update with more information when I have done some more thorough testing and thanks for the app ;) Edits: I find to select a previous track and song, I have to press the previous track button a couple of times, even with the stylus and also it is picking up all the Maemo system sounds which is kind of annoying when, I have the player setup on shuffle. Also I cannot exit the Graphical EQ to go back to previous menu when, I am tweaking the Graphical EQ as exit mode is either to small to quit or doesn't work as a link or touchable button. And when I go to Database>Artist>All Tracks they all say untagged and you cannot exit credits. Reasons behind issues: Okay the the previous track issue seems to be being caused by two problems one the system sounds are being picked up which, I already mentioned and these are short so when you have the player shuffling all tracks this error occurs and the short system sounds stop you from clicking backwards through tracks when using the previous track button and last but not least so far for this issue. The feedback sensitivity from the previous track button needs to be configured as by using your finger or thumb this is near to impossible and, I have also found in my testing that if you have two tracks one after the other in full length you can click back and forth between the tracks using the N900's stylus by clicking the previous and forward track buttons with the stylus. |

Re: Porting rockbox to n900
I'm late at commenting, but I just have to say that Rockbox on the N900 is a great idea. I have used the firmware on my Cowon player for long and I miss its usability and features.
At this point I am just testing the usability and integration issues to get an idea of how I can be most useful. Keep up the good work, this is a high value project ! :D // |

/home/jstokes/rockbox-2011-01/firmware/target/hosted/sdl/button-sdl.c:278 In my source code version, it's an empty line?? Anway, it seems to be a NULL pointer access. It might help to -start- the program in gdb and make it crash, maybe it outputs more information than with the first backtrace. I also guess the issue is N8xx related. |

The font is way to large for the current cabbie theme :D Also it doesn't improve the touchscreen usability as hitting a menu entry is still a very precise and annoying operation. Would be nice to tweak touchscreen responsiveness, I haven't looked into that yet. |

Could also be a compilation mismatch with the SDL library and SDL header files. Maybe retry with the "official" build in extras-devel. |

Open the cabbiev2 theme file on your device in your favorite editor: /opt/rockbox/share/rockbox/wps/cabbiev2.wps Go to line 27. Comment out the line with "Next Track:" and the line below it using a "#" sign. Search for the next "Next Track:" and do it again. Start rockbox and the next track display should be gone. You could also copy the file to "cabbiev2_nextrack.wps" first in case you want it back at a later time. |
Re: Porting rockbox to n900
New build is in extras-devel!
Changes in 2011-01-12maemo0: * Always show prev/next track button * Bind enter key to rockbock's center button (all platforms) * Bind more keys on n8xx (maemo4) * Update to latest rockbox SVN code Thanks to jstokes for the key bindings. Also initial maemo support has been sent upstream for review. |

Re: Porting rockbox to n900
I really like Rockbox and with 35 bold font it is easier to navigate.
Havent really tried all features but its pretty much all you need, as it seems. I like the snappiness of the gui. Feels snappier than other native apps. Thanks for porting it and looking forward to follow the future development of this beast :D |

Re: Porting rockbox to n900
Is rockbox using DSP-accelerated decodecs when playing music, like N900's own Mediaplayer is?
