If it is so, then it does not work for me. For me it works this way http://www.pittnerovi.com/jiri/hobby...900/index.html. But still, I would like to try your last improvements, since you stated it is better. May you kindly post the detailed instructions (such as the ones in the aforementioned link) to follow for the installation. In this manner, we can 100% verify that we are doing it the right way. |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
Can't we just get that HTML from the N8 ? it has offline navigation and ROUTING and VOICE !!! i used it even without a sim card ! how i wish i could have this on the N900

Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
May I suggest to put all this information in the Wiki?. It's becoming harder to research on the whole thread.
It would be great if individual scripts for patching Maps stuff could be done. This way, they could be packaged and included in the CSSU. |

You'll need to rename it to just index.html (if you need the whole folder, I have that too, but its a little large, so tell me if you require it and I'll upload it somewhere). Also did you mean the map loader? For downloading the maps to your device? If so you can bypass it and just download it manually from http://www.hpsblog.com/2009/07/direc...0-without.html and you just copy the maps into the Cities folder in MyDoc (it'll be MyDoc/Cities/Diskcache) |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
:D thanks alot and i flashed it i thought it will be easiest way.and by da way thanks again for helping us all with ovi maps that people gave up on,wish i could help.

I've tried three protocols by CormacB, Blaizzen, and you. Yours was the only one worked. But I'd like the street names announced, too. Can you please have a file that announces the street names posted? "I have made little changes, e.g. to leave the python server running forever (no shutdown) "----this function didn't work on my device. Once I exit XT and restart OVI map no voice played. I had to launch the python server each time before using the map. I followed your post, did exactly what you instructed, and repeated 3 times. The results were all the same. Can you suggest why? Thanks again. Robert |

Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
Hey.
Thanks for giving us, what Nokia was not able to. According to Jiri's how-to, I got full voice navigation in German and (first in english, but now also german) synthesized distances. :) Even the fm transmitter did keep the connection to the radio and did not turn off leading the radio to produce noise. But: the radio still beeps each few seconds. Is there a possibility to turn that off (just silence between navigation commands)? |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
Hello,
peterleinchen: have you managed to get the navigation in English working according to CormacB? I have only done it after switching the phone language from German to English, but as soon as I tried it with German voice an error message popped out after starting the maps: "failed to load voice config.xml from german for language de-DE" (the same one I was getting in English at the beginning before switching the phone language to English), I keep getting this no matter which phone language I choose... can anybody help/any ideas? before I have to try the way "jiri" described which looks much more complicated :rolleyes: |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
Hi xkkkx.
No, I somehow directly stumbled over Jiri's how-to and got it working fully for me (german phone, german language and distances). So I did not try Cormacs way. But reading his install post, he does not support other languages due to different naming (de_de -- german) of sound files. I would try to play around with naming of sound files location folder, or somehow look directly in the downloaded html file to rename there ... |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
I followed that Jiri's howto. Nokia maps says "Welcome to improved Nokia maps" out loud, but program cannot run any further. The progress bar keeps on moving left-right-left even for hours if I wait.
I I close it [X], it says "bye bye". What could be wrong? Edit: Got it back to work (without voice navigation) by replacing old index.html and pfw-directory from the backup. Edit2: The jiri's index.html work, I can hear some instruction now and the map otherwise works, but not with the pfw-directory taken from jiri's page but with some old one I installed last autumn. Because there is no diff program available for N900 (?), I cannot easily see what are the differences. |

Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
@udaychaitanya16:
1) root 2) cd /usr/share/nokia-maps/html 3) mv index.html index.html.jiri 4) ln -s index.html.nokia index.html After this it may work. The problem may be, that Jiri's instructions do not tell to backup pfw-directory, so if you didn't backup it yourself, then the old one is lost. |

courtneyg: or someone could up the original index.html...
oh well, here it is :D just unzip it and copy the file index.html to the folder /usr/share/nokia-maps/html on your n900 |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
@zimon
What kind of backup of pfw folder do You speak of? Afair there was no folder like that before I extracted the tar ball. So just copying the original html file back (and maybe delete some files) is sufficient. apt-get install diffutils-gnu for gdiff on N900 |

Quote:
http://www.pittnerovi.com/jiri/hobby...900/index.html ...there is this tar-ball: http://www.pittnerovi.com/jiri/hobby...00/maps.tar.gz ...which has pfw folder which will overwrite the old one. Code:
# gdiff -r pfw.old pfw.jiri |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
Yes, I know. But as I wrote, I can not remember to have seen that folder /usr/share/nokia-maps/html/pfw before extracting the tarball --> in standard/default installation this folder is not present.
Can someone with a "fresh" N900 without modifications confirm that? Or, if I'm wrong, zip that folder and post it, please? |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
@zimon,xkkkx,peterleinchen thaanks for the response.just now i got this index.html file and i placed it in the folder specified.when i opened the maps ,its doing nothing.now i ve opened the folder and i can see there is this pwf folder.shall i delete it?i know the rm command.my hands are itching:D
|
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
just rename it for now with
mv pfw pfw.sav |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
@peterleinchen
thank you for quick response.yes i renamed it even then the progress is going left and right doing nothing.And when i see the speak.py something i removed it.as of now the files in that html folder are .english_us index.html medos evalspeech.js index.html.nokia.gz pfw.sav framework maplets EDIT: i have taken the index.html file from XkkkX ' post and extracted it in my pc,then placed in the html folder |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
For those who are really stuck, here is what I hope is the original html folder (as original as I have on my laptop :p)

I had the same after Jiri's instructions. Progress bar was going left and right for ever. When I closed: "bye bye". Then I replaced Jiri's pfw directory with the old one which I do not know where I got from (from this thread), and after that Nokia Maps wouldn't get stuck in the progress bar and the speech works also. Maybe the pfw directory should have all the files which are seen in the above gdiff list and Jiri's tarball is missing some? |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
This thread has grown so much that it's beginning to be difficult to find the useful stuff. Anyone willing to prepare a Wiki page?

Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
@Blaizzen
thats awesome.as soon as i replaced the html file of you my gps fix was very fast.I dont know why.Indeed you know i was very eager to get voice directions for my maps.Its because most of the times i travel on my bike in India.But when i heard espeak male voice i wanted to revert back.Thank you man.wt you are doing for the community is great.keep up the good work. @zimon,peterleinchen Thank you verymuch.just because of the people like you atleast i am trying to learn linux commands EDIT:I really dont know the reason but time for GPS fix is only seconds.But the real problem is its not showing my position accurately i.e my position is being shown atleast 5 km away.The only way left is flashing it seems:confused: |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
@udaychaitanya16
Do You have a GPRS internet connection online? If yes, then the GPS fix is an AGPS approximation, which may be a bit rough. But not 5km, maybe 100-500m. You have to wait a few minutes outside at good weather conditions. Sometimes my N900 also needs some time (but it is the best GPS ever on a phone!). |

Hey.
I checked with a friend's N900 and he had that pfw folder (so i was wrong and did not backup carefully enough; shame on me;))j Here I up the original Nokia html file and also complete original Nokia pfw folder. Both taken from PR1.3 -- the pfw folder was too big, so I had to use 7z. Just remove the last ending (.zip) and deflate with 7z. |
Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
@peterleinchen,zimon
you are exactly right when you said approximation might be around 500m.And yes i was online via GPRS.Now its behaving as expected.The whole episode taught me how to get the GPS fix fast.Thank you. |

Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
One acceptable method I've seen for such files in other forums is to post patch files (with diff). This allows you to edit and distribute changes without distributing the entire file. Just an idea...

Re: Ovi Maps Extra Features - Now with voice guidance (early development)
i followed the instructions from the first post to update to the modified ovi maps, my problem is that i cannot see any pois even if i check to see them all.
is there any tutorial to overwrite the attached file from the first post with the pois? |
