Aggresive phone app
 

Hi all, would it be possible/is there an app that makes the phone functions more network aggresive? Being in the mall today during boxing day it was a real pain to get a call out or use GPRS.

It would be sweet to have something that makes the phone be a little more aggresive on its connections. Like automatically redial on "Network Busy", boosts power to the antenna, timesout and reconnects GPRS every 3 seconds untill connected, switches between towers, harrases the network etc.

Basically an app/mod that makes the phone not take network congestion as an answer and give up. I couldnt get a call out today through the phone network so had to force my phone into GPRS after 15 tries and Skype out. Worked well once connected :)

any thoughts?

just think if everyone had aggressive phone apps on their phones...

how much harder would it then be to make calls during busy times?

Some of your ideas sound semi-reasonable, similar happens now in many software applications when network servers are not found.
However there has to be a breakpoint between power consumption and overworking the network as others have mentioned and these limits are mandated and devices are expected to behave to certain standards whilst on operators networks.

Nokia are researching an alternative technology to allow overcoming network overload, its an interesting read/watch and certainly something I would like to see in action :)

True to a degree, and otherwise it would be a much more
chaotic trip through the market.

But mostly it is closed because there are many people
who make an awful lot of money from the masses by
controlling access.

I want to see peer-to-peer telephony with
carriers relegated to being more along the lines
of ISPs competing in different frequency bands
and hot-zones chains rather than the monolithic
GOVERNMENT-APPOINTED MASTER-OVERLORDs
of all HUMAN COMMUNICATIONs on PLANET EARTH.

(sorry, some sort of problem with the Capslock there)

But back to the point - yes:
in a situation where there is a heavy load on existing services,
what OP terms as aggressive:confused:
may be viewed as a hostile DOS attack by others,:mad:
with all the inconvenient repercussions that could possibly entail.

What about phone-pooling? You aren't going to have call all the time, you want only one minute out of ten. So if several phones in one place could arrange it between ourselves: time is separated into small blocks, and during each block only one phone out of these ten tries to connect, others go to offline mode, and tunnel their calls through WiFi/Bluetooth and the phone which is currently online. The problem is that you have to trust other people to tunnel your calls through their mobiles and their calls through your mobile.

EDIT: I mean, if cellular towers see ten times less phones in the area, there should be no congestion, and the calls should easily go through.

By the way, it's not too different from Skype. If both computers are behind firewalls, their call is routed through Skype supernode, using its bandwidth, and the human whose computer was turned into Skype supernode is most likely unaware of the fact.

Its no diffrent to me having to re-click 3 times to retry. Like said before its an existing method in some network models, I'm not saying DDOS the phone network, more auto retry.

Basically all I'm asking is if there is an auto-retry application with a lower timeout.

Back on topic, there is no auto-retry app or setting is there?

I have to say looking back at the day I opened this thread I was pretty frustrated and had a picture of an app that would turn my phone into a portable EMP that would take out everyone else's phone out of commission. (almost)
