Do you have rootsh installed? And/or are you ssh'ed into the N900 it as the root user?

You cannot
cd /home/user/(filename)/

You can only
cd /home/user/(directoryname)/

Re: can't cd

In that case, are you completely and utterly sure that "(filename)" is actually the name of a directory? (take note of what Wikiwide said: it can't be a filename, since a file, by definition, isn't a directory, and thus you can't be "in" it - you can say you're "in" a file when you're editing it, yes, but cd isn't the command to open files in that sense. So just in case you were actually trying to cd into a file, instead of cd-ing into a directory you just happened to call "(filename)")

Try cd /home/user/ followed by ls (or ls -a if it starts with a period). Then see if that folder is actually there. If it's not, how certain are you it's actually in /home/user/, and not, say, /home/user/MyDocs/ or wherever else? Or is there anything else that's misspelled, but might be the folder you're looking for?
