N9 (custom made) boot video
 

Hi guys, i just made a little present for you. :) I know N9 isn't announced yet, but i made first boot video for it. I hope you like it.

This is the 720p download link (only 4.23MB), and this is youtube link.

I highly recommend downloading it and watching on your computer because youtube compression destroys the stars in the night sky. I'm not 100% satisfied how it sounds and looks like so maybe i'll change some things before i release the final version. Here are some sreenshots too.

Hi guys, i will make another one with N900 instead N9 but you'll have to wait a little bit, i don't have much time these days, sorry.
As for the others, i would need about half an hour-hour for every video (because i have to animate light in every frame when the letters fly in and then to render it, put in in another video editor and render it again) so i couldn't fulfill all your wishes. It wouldn't be fair to make videos only for some guys so i will not make videos with nicknames at all. Sorry for that. too. :)

So now the N9's been around a while, has anyone located where the boot video is located in the file structure? I've literally only been digging around maybe 10 mins or so, and was hoping it would be in a similar place like the n900 - /usr/share/hildon-welcome/media, but not so.

This is embarrassing but I've found it already, /usr/share/MProgressIndicator/themes/opengl/
well I assume this is it because when you select MainAnimation_LowNoise.mp4, it plays the boot video in the video player, the Nokia logo within the circle.
Not sure If i need to locate the config file as yet since you could obvously use the same file name as the original for the custom video if you replaced the original, a backup of the original would be a smart move.
But given there's a custom folder within themes maybe they have a better solution inbuilt.

Well I've got the boot video working on my N9, It's a bit glary at work so I cant upload a video of it working until tonight, it look's like I'm filming a mirror with the shiny new N9 screen.
Will upload a vid to noobTube tonight so ya can see what it looks like on the real thing.

film in the dark - the screen is oled, so you should not have any other light anyway, light in the surroundings won't help to see the screen.

Thats cool, but I wouldnt want this as it makes booting take longer. I removed the intro vid from my N900 to make it boot quicker, I wonder if you can you do this with the N9?

Well given you like short vid's the one I use now days wouldn't suit, doesn't bother me since I don't reboot my N9 much, my video editing skills are limited to cutting segments so I can't really help the shortage of vid's specific to N9, it's a shame given N900 had so many good custom boot Vids.

Well basically the boot video that plays by default is located in here:
/usr/share/MProgressIndicator/themes/opengl/MainAnimation_LowNoise.mp4

One way you can do it, manually at least, is to take a video you want to use, rename it to MainAnimation_LowNoise.mp4, then simply replace the original with the new one. If you're unfamiliar with terminal commands have a look at the code contained in the first post of this thread:

The only thing that may not be completely spelled out is that when you open the terminal you should type "devel-su", then "rootme" as the password (assuming you haven't changed the password for it), it gives you root access so you can manipulate files / folders etc that a normal user possibly shouldn't, after getting root access you can do the commands described in that first post. That's what he's getting at mentioning SU.

Cry out, if it still doesn't make sense, can go deeper into it, I think you'll be alright even if this is all new to ya though.

I'm pretty sure there was something done for removing the nokia text with the pulsing circle etc, but I like it, hence never tried to modify that and I can't remember what thread that was covered in, I could be wrong about that being done mind you.
