Nokia and Microsoft are announcing partnership next week, according to engadget :O not that they haven't done something like that in the past, but I fear WP7 software on MeeGo capable devices?

Ohh Noes!!!

Or creating an extra doorway for wp7 related software to be compilable to MeeGo and vice versa, that sounds better IMHO..

Btw. This Nokia and Ms partership is nothing new. People who actually read news know very well that Nokia and MS have done many projects together.

That may be true. But nothing like this. Nokia has worked a long time with meego which should be their new High End OS. At that time bring in another OS (win7) which also will aim for mid and high end. That will certenly kill some of the much needed boost from partner, devs and users.

Will be very intressting to see where nokia is headed.

Just pure speculations here at the moment!

thats most probably to do with the Linux Foundation Ruling the name SmeegoL cant be used with there openSUSE MeeGo UX preoject and them being too stubborn to listen and going ahead with the name

According to the Dutch newspaper 'De Telegraaf' Nokia is also going to fire a couple of execs, probably due to the loss in market share (as if it were that simple but OK) so a couple of them should be fearing the sack.

Hope its the Symbian UI execs! Or the ones responsible for OVI store ;)

There is another side of that coin. The problem never really was with the license agreement (trade mark, actually), but rather (lack of) timely and adequate communication, i.e. the smeegol name was known, advertised and asked for permission well in advance, but the response in the form of a C&D came a lot later, in fact two weeks AFTER the project made it's first public release. That's what caused the... 'commotion'.

Even so they have still had 4 months to get used to the ruling but as far as I could tell back in December they still was releasing updates with the name instead of changing it. I know some was co-operative and willing to change the name but couple others was trying to stand there ground sticking the middle finger up

Why are so many websites insistent that Nokia will make handsets with WP7? I REALLY want the N9 to run MeeGo and have a QWERTY keyboard.
