So I have to ask... what's with the countdown until the end of the year so many keep posting? :confused:
What does that have to do with anything, especially the N9?
I mean, Christmas I can understand, MWC would make even more sense (but that's only 8 days away), but December 31st?

The thread title is actually a pretty fair summary of the reason for the countdown, though I don't believe the announcement Elop made referred to the N9 specifically.

1. In 2010, people wanted Nokia to release, or at least announce, a MeeGo-based product before the end of the year.
2. Instead, Elop announced that wouldn't be happening, and that news about MeeGo devices would be something that happens in 2011.
3. It's 2011 now, and Nokia should be announcing something before this year runs out.
4. So, Dave is counting down to the last possible date Nokia can take action without Elop breaking his word.

I don't know... Are you putting too much pressure on Nokia? Isn't it better they just get it right? Maybe you should give them an extra year in the countdown.

Good luck with that. As it stands, better products exist, he already knows that.

But without MeeGo in place and without proper support and/or a proper rollout, you'll be waiting for that destruction as well as the as-of-yet finished OS.

Uhh, maybe you actually mean
at the very least 326 more days
of the fact
that the n900 remains the pinnacle of linux handphones
and thus (for the handful or so of us very few linux addicts)
the only real choice in the market.

Anyway, keep counting,,,,
