New devices (and especially flagship devices) are always introduced on a Nokia-only event, so don't set your expectations too high...

So what are the dates for nokia events 2011? Do they announce these events? ;)

EDIT: do they ever present phones on events like this or is it all numbers?

EDIT (again): found this: http://wiki.meego.com/Events but its not nokia so no N9 fun here!?!!?!

Where people even expecting something from Nokia in CES?!

I mean there was no Nokia keynote and not even booth. Nokia even said all this on their conversation blog. Nokia has never been big in CES as MWC is just around the corner

MWC has always been big event for Nokia and Elop will be one of the 4 main keynote speakers in MWC with CEO's from Qualcomm, Intel, and ATT.
Will we see MeeGo device announced there? Who knows, but devices will be announced that's for sure. Samsung and HTC will have strong presence in MWC also, like always.

;)

Apple is 'enjoying' the current marketplace. It's arguable that they're still holding the pole position in terms of 'perceived' market leadership (although we all know that's not to be the case).

As such, they will continue to announce products closer to the product's actual market availability dates. As they have many times in the past revealed the product on the same day it goes on sale on their outlets.

For many companies without ready product in a market where dominant competitors are already selling, they do need to publish future products today; to entice the customers to wait for said product and not spend their money on the competitor's offerings. (ie: blackberry playbook, etc).

you guys shouldn't all blame android.
the new gingerbread is really nice and have some great features and google isn't as lazy as nokia.you can root your phone too and you have also some kind of "terminal".
if you guys want to wait for the next "real open source" phone then good luck with that.mybe 2012 will come something.
but there are many really great android phones with great specs coming and i will definetly upgrade.
regards

Not declaring their devices releases at CES is hardly a reason for being behind the curve. As others pointed out - Apple is another named company who are never at CES. They have their own conferences.

Plus there is the Mobile World Congress which is where Nokia will be.
And all the companies at CES will also announce newer products at MWC again. So the curve just keeps curving and it doesnt matter who releases where as long as they do something in a financial year.

I know that Elop did take Vanjokis place as Head of Mobile Solutions so he leads the smartphones as a whole that includes MeeGo and Symbian before the spot is taken

Jerri DeVard is one of the big recruits and she leads Nokia's marketing now and then there's Skillman of course but as far as i know he is still the lead of MeeGo's user experience.
Ahtisaari is above Skillman as Senior Vice President and leads design and user experience.

I haven't heard any announcement about somebody taking Jaaksis spot directly.
