Check "powatool". It has beeb mentioned a few pages before in this thread. It can also disable the "Nokia hands" video on startup.

@turbovomit
Go to your settings->location. For positioning server, change it from supl.nokia.com to supl.google.com
It'll use Google servers to help fix your spot and they supposedly work the best from what other users have said (haven't used it myself since changing.)

@izrzdor, check the wiki. It'll be in the "Community" section of the site, or better yet, just go to wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU

Is there a way to keep the portrait mode locations? where is it being saved in the file system? (i thought maybe i'll just save the settings files aside and copy again if crash happens)

You'll have to use gconftool-2 for backing up the respective values under /apps/osso/hildon-home/applets/

I had put trying CSSU off until an opportune time, when a)things such as camera-ui had stabilised, b)there was some compelling reason. Circumstances conspired to make that today.

It was very painless, and the changes for portrait mode support seem to work very well.

Congrats to the CSSU team, this is looking like a very good SSU, is it PR1.4 :-).

Tks for your tip! Works perfect!

Seems like it f**ks up my usb port. When I turn off the phone it keeps showing me the nokia logo than the 5 dots showing up. They disappear than the logo shows up again and so on . . . very strange. When turning the phone on it doesn't charge at all.

Another option for saving those settings: after you have it setup in both modes, do a power off and reboot. When shutting down it records all that placements and will restore back to those from then on.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I apparently just did something stupid by adding the following line to the end of transitions.ini:

gconftool -st bool /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate false

effectively rendering my N900 disabled - there is only one home screen with overlapping icons. Any help?

Thanks in advance!

i will try to do that - but what about the icons of the shortcuts? I don't see their locations there

Thanks

Edit the transitions.ini file (Ctrl+Shift+X to get X terminal and do it from there if you can't get to the launcher) and remove it again. That's a command you're meant to run, not something to put in the transitions.ini file.

found a way: rename the applet in /usr/share/applications/hildon-status-menu/status-area-orientationlock-applet.desktop

That is silly!

How about following the correct advice as given by jpala16 a few posts after your question?

They are not in 'applets', should check. Btw: you can print out all recursive conf directories with gconftool-2 option....

As pointed by petur, it's easier to just use powatool as "put-name-in-here" (I don't remember, sorry) told in this thread some pages ago. It's easy, painless and effective. And you can disable more of those status-area plugins (this is it instead of applets, right?).

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

My n900 pronounced dead.

After all kind of updates of CSSU and kernel the power management has been killed. USB port seems to be good, adapter too. Also tried different batteries. But nothing seems to make it alive again.

Can't charge while it's on, can't reflash it, because it doesn't recognize. When charging while it's off it shows me nokia logo, 5 dots, nokia logo, 5 dots and so on.

JadeH 2011-09-16 14:07

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

It's not dead, you need to reflash but it will be ok

Try this: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

reflash the whole rootfs

Can't do that. It doesn't recognize the usb as it used be. It can't handle anything. So reflashing through usb is no option.

But thanks anyway.

Rob1n,

Thanks for the advice. I unfortunately cannot access the X terminal via Ctrl+Shift+X.

Will transitions.ini be automatically rewritten/updated with the next rendition of CSSU Features? If so, then I can wait for the next update (I believe I will be able to update as that section of the screen is functional), rather than have to reflash.

Anyone knows when the next update is due?

Thank you.

Yes, Modest is still unstable for me as well since this last series of release :( I've submitted a number of crashdumps.

I'm using gmail via Nokia Messaging. Not sure if that might be something to do with it.

@M.A.G

since everybody keep requesting a gud portrait keyboard working well in CSSU may i suggest something for you & the rest of CSSU team??

as i searching on all apps/program in repo i stumble upon your older program called "vertSMS"...

now as anyone know it is one of the first portrait keyboard program in our devices so i want to suggest to you to maintain/update that program so it can become compatible with the latests CSSU & Hildon Desktop Portrait Mode...

hopefully you make modified it as a replacement to our virtual keyboard or at least make it just likes FastSMSevo....

Your "VertSMS" might be the best replacement since you yourself created that program....

this is just a suggestions since most of TMO member (not me,i dont use virtual keyboard :D ) keep complaining/requesting a gud portrait keyboard.....

MohammadAG 2011-09-17 10:54

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

VertSMS isn't mine, I was just maintaining the package.
ossipenna's the actual developer.

VertSMS is in python afaik, and for a good fast virtual keyboard, we need a C/Gtk replacement.

If you can still somehow connect to wifi, maybe you can try ssh to do this?

well it does only if the qt app has portrait mode in it.. it will go out of screen in forced rotation mode..i.e in MAG's media player and all..while it works fine in Miniature..basically if the app is essentially a portrait mode one..then it will work fine :P

im happy as it helps a lot while playing miniature!

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Just a comment regarding portrait keyboard:

I've always been curious why people with a n900 want a virtual portrait keyboard. Portrait mode is great, if the tasks needed can be performed with the thumb. For example, it is excellent to read SMSs, check missed calls, etc.

But if I need -for example- to write a new SMS, physical keyboard is the best choice, that's one of the main reasons we love our n900, right ? :-)

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I have an issue with camera which is maybe CSSU related, so it would be very helpful if other users can check this.

Start video recording and during recoding close camera cover. Then check if the recorded video is playable or not. I tried many times and I always end up with unplayable (corrupted) video.

I have latest CSSU and kernel power 48. Because I have multiboot I also tested stock kernel and the result is the same. But on friend's phone without installed CSSU the recorded video is fine.
Another thing, my phone has installed fcam-drivers 1.0.7-2, but on the friend's it is 1.0.7-1.

Has anyone ever had their sound get "stuck" ?
The reason why I mention it in here is because, to my knowledge it never happened to me on normal PR1.3.

Going to silent profile and back to general usually gets rid of it.

This does not work currently. This is a bug in the camera-ui.
