why portrait mode in cssu update is not working in all application ? only some of the applications are working. other applications rotate in portrait mode but are not useable as some parts of the application layout are hidden. is there is any fix for this ?

Unfortunately dude not all apps have portrait abiity themselves...some apps just fit in. What the CSSU is doing is twicking the UI of the Hildon Desktop for portrait, not individual apps..so unless the apps themselves have portrait capability you are not going to get the full picture on portrait. Oddly some things that work well on portrait but arent meant to is the contacts app and the notepad...lol However the media player is best on landscape.

You could get the conversations to work in portrait via a bit of modding. Google conversations mod for nokia n900. And remember after the mod you must have cssu force all aplications to rotate option on or else it will not rotate the mod just allows the UI to fit in the screen when in portrait does not rotate it, Also you will need a portrait keyboard my preference is the fast sms one from the repos. cheers

my phone log froze the other day while i was trying to bring up the keypad to push something for an automated machine i was forced to restart and am no longer able to open the calls log in portrait mode. It constantly stays in landscape. If i zoom back to desktop while having the log open screen in the background it turns portrait but once i bring it back to view it turns back to landscape. Any suggestions ?

Just a little but really annoying problem. Every time when unlocking phone phone's UI popping up and same thing happens when it turns to portrait mode.

If you mean the status bar menu have a look at the wiki: http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/...ble_with_gconf

You could also use the CSSU Features Configuration Editor to do this. http://wiki.maemo.org/CSSU_Features_...uration_Editor

Disable rotation of desktop:
in terminal:
gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/desktop_orientation_lock -t bool true

check the wiki for more options

Waiting for Open Media Player to be implemented on the coming CSSU version.

then I'm removing my sim card from my N91 8gb and putting it back on the N900.

cause , as you may know, the N900 has great music capabilities and the OMP (with the much wanted portrait mode) will make the n900 even better for music on the go.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Would it be possible to create a separate repository (just one or the whole extras-devel>extras-testing>extras thing) for applications depending on the updated packages of CSSU like Qt4 4.7.4? Currently there seems to be no way to upload packages like QtComponents 1.1 to any official repository so that people with CSSU installed could use it easily.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I just finished updating my N900 to the CSSU and the device is completely missed up :(

I can't open app menu and the top area is completely missing and once I run any app I can't go back.

I've been reading and searching for the past two hours and couldn't find any thing related, and most similar solutions suggest the use of terminal, but I can't run the terminal to try

Please anyone who have slightest idea can help..

Thanks

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

You can use the keyboard shortcut to run the terminal... Control-Shift-X should bring up the terminal.

Also, you should really have ssh installed and a computer with ssh you can use to connect to it when doing something major like this.

Thank you for the reply, but earlier I tried using the shortcut for the terminal and it's giving just a black screen like many other apps and once you hit that screen you can't go back  Also I have SSH installed but as I said earlier there's now top area so I can't turn the wireless on

I think the only solution is to re-flash.. and I hate this solution :(

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

CSSU related: Getting the phone a lot slowed down/unresponsive. Is there any chance each fix that CSSU gives would be also released as separate fix. i would love to have the graychar fix, most of other (maybe except dynamic scrolling) features do not interest me. Used to work on landscape mode etc. Or is even this requiring no-way-to-uninstall except reflash? (this of course might be opinion/placebo effect just like battery patch and the bunch)

are we ever gonna see one last cssu update for the n900, that one last horey, come one the n900 deserves it, maybe a windos phone 7 style scrolling between homescreens, one swipe will take you from homescreen 1 to homescreen 4 in one continious smooth scroll .........

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

the "CSSU team" kicked off the CSSU Stable branch project yesterday. May arrive in a week or two, basing on CSSU Testing 16.8/17
What? 17? ;-D Yes, we also started to get CSSU Testing rev 17 which will bring the PR1.3.1 diginotar (not really, we had this since quite some time already) and cert display update recently shipped by Nokia, plus some long-pending fixes to modest and camera-ui by freemangordon.

You will not be able to switch from CSSU T to CSSU S, to switch it needs a complete new install, means flashing of stock PR1.3 and then installing the Stable. So Stable is mainly meant for those users who run PR1.3(.1) and where reluctant about using CSSU Testing ( - no real reason why Testing users would want to switch to Stable :-D ).

cheers

Finally, some wise thinking.

Questiions.

It will be in the Extras the Stable CSSU or to install we have to go to the wiki page?

The flash>install is just for those who have the "Testing" CSSU and wants to have the Stable?

Or everyone who wants to have the Stable version, mandatory need to flash?

Just to be clear, Stable version will be 16.8/17 (which will bring the PR1.3.1 diginotar (not really, we had this since quite some time already) and cert display update recently shipped by Nokia, plus some long-pending fixes to modest and camera-ui by freemangordon.)?

Probably i have another questions but not remeber right now.

THANKS A LOT TO EVERYONE INVOLVE IN THE CSSU.

Developers, testers, users who test it too and nokia (sorry if a fogot someone).

Greetings.

for those who're not insecure about stable, will the updates from stable be included in testing?
meaning, are/will "plus some long-pending fixes to modest and camera-ui by freemangordon." already be included in testing or is stable a compulsory?

Of course *all* patches that go to Stable first seen an (usually) extended test period in Testing, so no way any patch state in Stable is more up to date than Testing, ever.
As mentioned in my "first" post, there's little reason for those running Testing to switch to Stable (unless they got fed up with helping in debugging :-D )

I'm not aware of any plans to promote CSSU installer to extras(-testing/devel) repository. It might be possible, but I'm not completely sure if it's wise. After all MeegoCE also isn't published via maemo-extras repo - it seems reasonable when users have to visit a webpage where proper instructions, explanations and warnings etc are visible so everybody *knows* what's pending. Mind that installing CSSU is basically irreversible, you can't uninstall CSSU like a normal package.

What? 17? ;-D Yes, we also started to get CSSU Testing rev 17 which will bring the PR1.3.1 diginotar (not really, we had this since quite some time already) and cert display update recently shipped by Nokia, plus some long-pending fixes to modest and camera-ui by freemangordon.

I remember reading on the IRC logs that a version which included camera-ui and modest patches would be merged and put out to testing with some users (I believe you are calling this v 17). will this be put out to broader testing group (ie everyone with CSSU nstalled) before stable, or at the same time?

I don't know if this answer you'r question, but worth to see it (if you didn't see it yet).

Probably with rather short delay on Stable after Testing, as those patches seen some "evaluation" already, with those "some users". So I expect the patches will merge to Stable shortly after Testing17 got published and seen a few days of widespread usage. Though I'd not mind to include them into Stable right away, for me the testing done on them - as stated by freemangordon - is sufficient to include them to Stable and then give that Stable a tesing period of some days with a crew of CSSU devels who know what to look for in modest and camera-ui. In the end this is up to merlin1991 now as he's maintainer of Stable branch, while I'm just the troll commenting on everything and shouting at devels when I think sth is odd ;-) Everybody is free to ignore me (though of course I prefer getting asked about my opinion).

since jonwil turned down rewrite for the default vkb to include proper portrait mode, is there no other dev who can look into it?

I have decided to take another look at the virtual keyboard rendering stuff if someone can tell me which packages would need cloning. I THINK libhildon-im-vkbrenderer3 is the one we need but I dont know if we need others also.
