Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Hello there, to all of you...

Firstly, I like what the Maemo Council and MohammadAG are doing and please recieve my gratitude for everything.

Secondly, I know that not everything comes for free (free ride services) and although this is a linux-maemo comunity and there are people that enjoy coding and developing Maemo 5 and its services I believe there should be a donation paypal button either for
MohammadAG and the Maemo Council (individually) or a common donation button with amounts of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 Eur (or $) so if anyone cares and hopes for better SSU updates should, if he or she believes and affords, hit that donation button.
I, for example, would like to contribute to this.

start fixing stuff that matters please! like the media player button, the virtual keyboard wich messes up text. An option where when a bluetooth enabled headset is attached the n900 will automatic choose gprs instead of wifi would be great too.

And for god sake update the change log please! or atleast put the changes in the info part of the installation menu so that we can actually see what has been changed and test was you guys improved.

You are under no obligation to use CSSU. Learn how how to give feedback in a civilized manner. File a bug report.

hmmm

noticed that if in [home] in transitions.ini

radius and radius_more must be set to more than 0 in order for saturate = 0 to work

Please keep in mind this is just the beginning, some work has to
be done to make the cssu process working at all.

99% of the users shouldn't install this CSSU, now. If you are afraid
things can break, don't use extras-devel stuff. Just wait.

The CSSU can not fix bugs in nokias closed source components.
Not at least they are rewritten from scratch, which may take much
time.
Feel free to test my media-player-widget from extras-devel. Give
feedback about what is working and what not or any
feature requests.

Good work on sorting Modest. Hopefully the aforementioned patches to camel tinymail et all can be applied for offline sync. I've been using it for a bit over 6 months and it works perfectly as described.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I got a question - willing to donate to the solution holder..

2G vs 3G (3.5g). Well, we all know that 3G/3.5G brings down the battery quite fast and, though the network selection applet is making good job on it I would ask/propose to the coding guys the following scenario (please, forgive for me not being to clear when speaking about this issues - not knowing much about it)

When we need a 3G/3.5G network connection (either on SIP calls, web browsing, attachment downloading/uploading, etc) the present 2G connection should "call" for the 3.5G and allow it to do the job. I believe it is common knowledge that the switch from 2G to 3G is quite fast in contrast to the vice-versa from 3.5G to 2G which it takes quite longer. Then, after the job is done, and the screen is black (standby) the network connection should revert to the 2G mode.
The network Dual mode is not working, as I monitored several times.

So, is this doable?

Been running the CSSU the last days and have also gotten daily updates the last 3 days.

No bugs to report that should be affected to the CSSU. (Conversations freaked out after 1500 or so SMSs in storage, but a reboot solved that.) On the other hand, no noticeable improvements to speak of - Modest is still slow as *bleep* to navigate. I understood that Modest was one of the components which has gotten a major overhaul with the CSSU? How do I check the version of Modest?

No-one has said that any major improvements were shipped. Modest has had it's version bumped and some patches applied, but it's still Modest.

Sc0rpius is increasingly digging through its code, though.

Ok. I moticed that the version-number of Modest was bumped quite a lot so I expected some experienced changes, but yeah, not disappointed or "upset", don't misunderstand me.

I was starting to worry that my installation of CSSU might not have touched Modest at all. Pardon my n00bness and repeated question, but how can I check the version-number of Modest to verify a full installation of the CSSU?

- bind the email, sms and im conversation as a tab in contact list.
so we can instantly check the history.

I wouldn't expect huge changes like that. Keep in mind this is a community driven effort, and like Jaffa said - it's all being done in spare time, and on the heels of OTHER open source community sourced projects.

Whist the CSSU has lead to some improvements in the speed of the device generally is there any other hidden "tweaks", which we can use such as easier access to multiple desktops/blur etc as there seems users are referring to them in this thread but there's no real info how to use them?

modest email horizontal wrapping issue

today i have received some emails which modest in neither mfe nor imap account wraps correctly therefore i am unable to read them as at the same time the horizontal scrollbar doesn't scroll sideways. as some other emails come through OK, i am not sure now whether this is a new issue that came through CSSU or was existing before...

is there a workaround or a fix for this?

I am having the same problem. It is new since the CSSU. I was about to go file a bug in bugzilla on it, but was checking the thread to see if anyone else commented on it.

Update: I filed bug #11910 on this issue in bugzilla if you want to vote or add any info.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I've edited my transition.ini file but I was unable to set bigger task switcher and desaturation, here it is, what mistakes have I done?:
Code:

# This file contains timings and values for transitions in hildon-desktop
# duration = time in milliseconds
# zoom = amount to zoom out the background. 1 = none, 0.5 = zoom to half size
# radius = radius of blur (this is actually the number of blur iterations,
#          so the bigger the number the longer it takes)
# saturation = the amount of colour left in the background (0 = grey, 1 = normal)
# brightness = brightness of the background (0 = black, 1 = normal)

Just a thought, is there any way to enable application crash logging / dump logging system wide so that any feedback can be filed with a proper log for debugging....? I've seen too many posts in this thread with "modest crashed" or "MicroB shut down unexpectedly" or "internal error - application web closed" without any kind of proper debug information.

If so, can someone post up the terminal commands so that feedback can be bettered?

So a properly working modest is essential and covers most of my email needs

this CSSU really works for me! Mail is a lot faster and so on.
But I can't find fixes for the camera.
is the flash timing altered? or some other compression settings?
I have the feeling the camera is much better now, can anyone confirm or, even better, point me to a comprehensive bugfix list?
