Sounds like you need to reinstall the package for that too, if it's not showing in the desktop menu any more.
No, I don't know the package name, look it up :-)

Thanks a lot, it did worked.

last thing, while i was trying to bring back the widget and the facebook contacts i tried to restore the full backup i took before the update, the backup was using the phone defualt backup utility for contacts, calender, bookmarks, settings, and application list.
now that i made the restore do i need to re update with the latest cssu update or its already updated, becuase for example i cant find the 9 desktops in manage views but it was there before i restore. i also can't find the update in installed packages nor the uninstalled one.

Edit: I just found it in the installed packages now, can i just remove and reinstall or this may crash something?

When you upgrade the CSSU it replaces your transitions.ini file with the latest version from the CSSU team, which has all the options set to 0 by default. You need to reconfigure it again to enable tactile, z-axis rotation, portrait, blurless desaturation etc.

Code:

root
leafpad /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini

Bear in mind that if you are using a theme with custom transistions there is a symlink in place to an already modified transitions.ini file located in
Code:

leafpad /usr/share/themes/<your theme name>/transitions.ini

Though there is a bug logged to preserve your changes, while still introducing (any) new options.

But if the user fails to do this, and there is another CSSU update, the .old will itself be overwritten, and their still stuck, right ?

Users using theme customizer:
Theme Customizer comes with it's own hildon-home (has always) and it does not support 9 desktops. I already asked if the resizing the shortcuts could be implemented into CSSU so I could dump the hildon-home that comes with Theme Customizer.

For developers of CSSU:
Resizing patch is originally made by cepiperez and I think Matan's latest hildon-home includes it aswell so you might wanna grab it from there or get the source of Theme Customizer to see the source of modded hildon-home.

Could you raise a bug pointing at the necessary sources?

Guys. i know i might look noobish here, but how do i get the latest 12.1? or how do i check if got 12.1 already? The about page in settings shows me maemo12... which is weird, cause HAM doesn't have any updates either. Can smb help me here?

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

@ iscio, no, it's not possible to set it to only parts of the OS.

The next upgrade will include a configurable zoom effect when the screen's pressed as in the Cordia demo video and the parallax between home screen widgets and the background can be configured (or removed).

@ Alfred HAM -> Update -> tap title bar -> Refresh

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I've been using the cSSU from the start.

I thank all of you who have put an effort to keep the updates going, it's great that the issues are worked on.

I do have one major issue that I'd like to get solved permanently..

I like the smoothing of the general operation of the N900 and stuff, but can't live with the auto/forced rotation that messes up the usability all the time. How can I keep the other benefits of cSSU but keep the screen rotation as it would be (in the Nokia version)? Could I edit the .ini? But will it be overwritten with every cssu update?

I'd like a switch where I could prevent the display from rotating when it's not supposed to. ATM one annoyance is in the settings; the diplay settings pane forces rotation, it won't go away with the keyb opened, etc. The worst is when I'm on the move (i.e. not using the N900 on a table), the program menu rotates and annoys the **** out of me, how can I disable that?

I'm just starting to read all the wiki stuff so... And I just found how to forcerotation = 0.

BTW, is there a roadmap of where CSSU might be going?

Which is the default. So you actively changed it, and then started a question about how to turn it off? Glad you found the answer!

Absolutely did not change it. Which made me worry, as I checked it and it actually was zero... I rebooted just now and... nope. Everything rotates. Exactly as it was after the first reboot, even the screen settings.

Not so good.

----
This happened after the 12.1 update.
The transitions.ini looks good, everything is as default (or disabled).
In the settings, many of the 'panes' flip the screen (themes don't, theme customer doesn't, VoIP doesn't, device locking look absolutely horrible - unusable, diplay calibration works, shortcutd doesn't fit in portait). when they are closed, the screen stays flipped, even after keyboard open. After screen lock and open it flips back, when the keyb is closed.
Many programs don't rotate, I haven't red the list that are supposed to flip, but everything but the settings and program menu seems to work as they should.
App manager forces rotate when there's a menu/progress bar open.

Check your theme's transitions.ini.

The location is: /usr/share/themes/[THEME'S NAME]/transitions.ini

No .inis in my theme folders. Whatthehell. Should I copy the /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini in every folder? Why? I'm thinking that it should use the default in case an alternative isn't found.

It does use the default SSU version if one is not found within the theme folder. The active theme is always linked to /etc/hildon/theme so simply copy to that location and edit it to customize your current theme.

Something strange is going on here... I have one single transitions.ini How else could a theme change the transitions.ini?

NVM. Not to blame someone, but d-iivil's Theme Customizer appeared to be the culprit in my case, I'm still tweaking this, but maybe I got this solved... there is a /opt/theme-customizer/transitions.ini apparently that is used when TC is installed.

-----

/opt/theme-customizer/transitions.ini is a copy of the original, with some CSSU enabled transitions as a default. It can be selected to be used as a base for a theme in Theme Customizer. As I haven't used that option, I only have the original /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini in use, as the theme doesn't specify its own. The original is used. Which still has the default options, 'disable all new transitions', which doesn't get honored by hildon-desktop that is updated? edited? by CSSU?

So CSSU might have a bug? I shouldn't have any programs that change hildon-desktop other than the before-mentioned Theme Customizer.

Has anyone else these issues that I have?

----

I tried commenting the few last lines out from transitions.ini and did killall hildon-desktop after save, nothing is different.

After testing, I think that if I have the Phone running in the background, the different 'panes' in Settings (which is vertical) open rotated if I have the Phone set to portrait and the phone is held portrait. When Phone is set to 'vertical' that didn't happen, even when phone is held portrait. But I can't repeat that behavior 100% of the time, there seems to be a lot going on, also if the Phone is set to launch when rotated seems to have an effect. I'm hoping someone updates something and everything works after that.. =( The (hildon) menu always rotates if the phone is held portrait. The flippings in Settings don't bother me, as I have no need to use them frequently. If anyone missed something, I have an issue with the menu rotating. I don't want it to.

I used to have the 'Phone' set to portrait and launch on rotate. Everything else was horizontal, like it is supposed to be; some apps like mapper did their own rotating, but I never needed the portrait option anywhere else. And everything worked just fine until the 12.1 update today.

Also, d-iivil's TC seems to work just fine, it seems to have no ill effect on the transitions.ini behavior, or rather, it works as supposed in replacing the themes' transitions.ini if the user chooses to do so.

I have to say that I am amazed when I see how much better my N900 runs after each update. Fluid scrolling that is at least as good as that of a Galaxy S class device is one of the best features.

The best is the extensive implementation of portrait mode. I miss my 5800 less and less each day. I am about ready to pull my SIM out of my N8 and put it back into an N900.

Thank you to every one who has a hand in making this device everything it can be. I'm sure there abilities not yet tapped that will be realized through the CSSU.

-keyboard needs some work, not much , can this be fixed?
-is conversation closed source ? it need some rearranging same for a few menus.
-potrait works... but while opening the apps going to landscape, instead of staying potrait.
-taskmanager animation after u close and app, rearranging one its a bit slow. at least with "one column" setting and its if u close bottom app.
-no hildon-home, taskmanager in potrait yet, i hope this is possible
-camera on potrait mode changes, and its usable, but pictures taken dont work/look well, same for blessn900 :/

apps that work well.

-webrowser, works even better with the built in auto rotation disable.
-firefox fennec--- is just slow as hell, but thats mozilla problem
-opera mobile
-file manager
-fast app manager
-phone - well duh
-settings <- some submenus need work, like ringtones profiles.
-GRead - google reader.
-filebox
-cuteTube
-Here And Now by nokia
-Xournal
-pdf reader, menu full screen label name could be change.
-Dropn900 - it usable.
-twimgo <--- amazing twitter client
-Conky - could use some work but its usable
-mediabox - though can't display albumarts
-goconvert - almost perfect
-default backupmanager works fine.

what doesnt
-calendar - monthly and weekly views dont display. task view its good.
-battle gweled - it start but nothing happens when i hit play.
-Blocks- doesnt start after play, probably true for every game
u have to force close the app.
-petrovich doesnt even open.

what needs some work.

-conversations - too messy too look at, all chat/sms needs rebinding.
-drawing app - missing too many icons, it have a scroll bar.
-photos apps- it all packed up-
-notes- missing a few icons.. but its kinda usable
-maps apps work- but need alot of rebinding.
-clock - same all messed up but its usable
the rest i havent tested or it show too weird for daily use.
-freoffice. missing a few icons, but it works.
-music player- same as clocks needs alot of rebinding, but usable. except for videos. they dont display.
