[REQUEST] Go On Take A Look, You Know You Want To

Hi all,

I have a couple of request, perhaps these exist already or are in progress but I dont believe they are and may not even be possible.

Request 1:

Contact Login Notifier:

This would work similar to Microsoft Communicator or Yahoo Messanger notification of when a contact becomes online. Basically a little window or some kind of notification would appear for a second then disappear. Where I think this would be handy is that for me anyway I sit at a desk all day with the phone screen on always, I cant see if a contact logs in easily unless they are pinned to my home screen or i go into contacts directly.

Request 2:

Route Phone Through FM Transmitter:

Not sure if this is possible, but currently the FM transmitter can send sound from Radio/movies to my cars radio, is it possible to router the sound from a phone call to the radio via the FM transmitter ? This would mean no more need for BT headsets and no need to buy the expensive BT package when buying a new car. If this is possible there may be a problem as the car has no mic for me to speak into but many cars, mine anyway have a 3.5mil jack that I can attach a microphone to, could this be incorporated ?

Anyway hope someone thinks these are good ideas, they would be handy for me and im sure some other too.

Cheers

Colm

This would also mean that your (private) conversation is broadcasted to everyone who just has to put their radios to the right frequency...
You might as well put a giant speaker on top of your car and connect your phone to it, put it on the maximum volume level and drive around your neighborhood while making calls...
Don't you think that there was a good reason why Nokia did not enable such a feature?

wtf is wrong with you people? maybe next time u should give a proper title?

#1 check is pidgin has a notifications and if not try to port them and intigrate into hildon notifications ( but it would be painfull to get them all the time.

#2 just connect car set with bluetooth as headphones and it wouldn't matter what sound you transmit from n900 (music/radio/calls/whatever_makes_sound_on_n900)

all modern even cheap audios in car have bluetooth nowdays, even toilets have bluetooth now =)

Well now you raise a good point and one I did not think of actually, this would be a concern. I suppose if you pick an obscure frequency then you may be ok. I wonder though how strong is the signal, i would not be worried for example driving on a motor way as little or no chance of someone picking my frequency which has to have no station on it anyway

I will ask the developer though if there is a safety with regards to this though

Ok firstly, these are ideas, next you dont need to be rude here.

With regards to notifications, there would need to be an option to turn them off, but not everybody has millions of friends going online and offline all the time

The title was written that way to get attention and make you look, has it really taken up that much of your time to look.

I dont want to have head phones on me in the car, i would rather hear the phone call through the speakers.

Thanks for your input anyway though

i didn't say to use headphones but connect car's audio system as headphones to n900 =) i don't want you to be stopped by police or get in traffic accident

i'm not rude, i'm just of all these "attention" titles. the point of title to give an idea of the post. we want to keep our forum clean and easy to navigate, don't we? it would be easier for others to see this post instead of making thousand same posts with funny titles. as well as you was rude, by saying "i don't know if it was here" how u expect people to help you if you didn't even tried to use the search to help yourself? or you think our time worth less than yours?
we are not yellow pages of cheap magazines or bazar with cheap products trying to attract customers. it's like that trick one worker in shop tried me to fool, i wanted to buy iaudio7 mp3 player for my sis and they didn't have one (it's pretty good model btw from cowon) but he tried to sell me mp5 player, yes he told it's like mp3 but better, new format. that's what u are doing here. and there are a lot of newbes comming here and instead of reading and searching and doing it properly they just make all those posts and all good post go donw cause of them.

do not poop where you eat - help the forum by not ruining it at least =\

Dont take me up the wrong way, if you did not intend to be rude then thats ok :)

Sometimes a cryptic title is better to get people to look for at a topic, but I take your point on keeping titles clean, however as I had two things I thought it best this way.

Normally i search myself for things but sometimes you just cant find things, I searched the other week for example on the Fm-Carkit and did not find it. This is a community and we should all be friendly, for example in my work place i can ring up someone who I think can direct me in seconds to something I need, even though i could have searched for it, but that search could have taken 30 minutes for example. So I would not consider this as rude, yes if i never searched and just requested.

I always try to be productive in here and am not new to the forum, so I certainly don't consider this topic as helping to ruin the forum, but i dont think you intended tha comment that way

Well, the FM transmitter your phone has is not so strong, and the probability of someone else in the transmitting range listening to the frequency you set is quite low, but they're not the only ones who are listening to the radio - there are some very powerful receivers out there, some military and some civilian, which are constantly scanning and monitoring frequencies for quite a long distance.
Would you like to share your private conversations with them that easily? I know I wouldn't...

True this is a concern, I think in general for the amount of calls I get in the car a day, maybe one or two I think id be quite safe.

Not too worried about government, military...well a couple of 5 year old kids could over power the Irish army so even if they had the funding to buy a receiver i doubt they do though :)

I have asked the developer if there is anything in the app itself to restrict anyone else hearing it

Idea 1 sounds like a good idea to me, and am sure that there must be a dbus signal which would be leveraged, in a similar fashon to the now playing notifier app does, which displays the song details whenever a song starts playing.

This would also be useful functionality to build into the mycontacts app and widgets.

Yeah i think it would be handy, imagine you are surfing the web, a little notifier appears that your friend has come online....makes sense to me.

Yes it could get annoying if you have them constantly coming online offline but there could be an option to disable.

The notifier could also display what account they are online on, Facebook or GTalk etc

Don't get me wrong - I'm not bothered by those things myself - its not that I conduct top-secret conversations on my mobile or something - but the thought that someone I don't know might be listening to my conversation as well, makes me feel a bit uncomfortable... :)
