Gadgets and heat - place your bets!

So many people have commented about leaving GPSs, iPods, and their tablets in their car that I decided to make an experiment out of today. I got one of those indoor/outdoor thermometers and put the indoor part in shade under my dash and the outdoor probe directly ON my dash.

The facts:
- Today's high: 105F
- Not a cloud in sight
- 2007 Toyota Yaris. Black. Tinted windows but no tint on the huge windshield
- In direct sunlight all day

Watch the weather if you'd like. My ZIP code is 85014. Place your bets on the high temperature - if my thermometer will even register that high. I'll place a link to the results in this thread when the test is complete tonight.

Not placing bets but you must be near me with those temps. In fact I think I'm cooking my GPS unit right NoW!

What color is the dashboard of your car? How about the temperature sensor?

Did you close all your car windows?

My guess: 174F

Only if your thermometer can record that high... Maybe you need a proper Sauna meter... :D

4 hours until results are collected. About 6 until they are posted.

According to numbers from AHS, the temperature in a parked car will soar to more than 100 degrees in 10 minutes on an 85-degree day. In 30 minutes, it will be more than 120 degrees. On a hot, Arizona day, the temperature inside a parked car can reach over 200 degrees in minutes.
