It does say : Beryl on the desktop, Hildon on the handheld, so...

Interesting that they are incorporating the hildon framework rather than replacing it as many may have hoped. This probably also means that there will not be a mobile version of kubuntu.

Froma a user point of view, the Hildon desktop is perfect for a mobile device. Yes, it could have some better concepts, but compared with a full blown environment.

From a developer point of view, the API design decisions are just plain bogglesome.

Beryl kind of makes sense considering...

I think that this bug is to support the transparency in hildon-desktop, already supported in Sardine.
You can see a screenshot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8762011...in/pool-maemo/

In order that it was supporting Beryl, first there would be necessary to have the graphic card's drivers and I suppose that a more powerful hardware. Who knows if in a future...

Cheers.

You're not quite ready for a stand-up routine yet. :p

wonder if this might breathe new life into the 770?

Let's hope so. I've pretty much given up on using Maemo, I want something completely open so instead of spending time making apps that are useless whenever new firmware is released, developers can contribute to functionality of core apps / the operating system.

Too bad it takes up so much screen space. Why couldn't it have a drop down menu like every other os in the world? Sure it has a nice big screen and all, but without running an app in full screen mode, the actual space available for apps is just about the same size as most other pda's out there. Fluxbox or Xfce work pretty well with mobile devices and don't waste near the screen space.

Agreed.

What kind of drop-down menu? For application launching? For controlling/menu options in an application?
