All wisdom starts with honestly recognizing the facts of current situation. And that's what Elop did, someone had to say it loud. Nokia just can't continue the way it has.

imo the Elop speech makes sense. I will be all eyes for Friday strategy news :)

Steve Elop's "burning platform" memo

Hey guys,

I just wanted to share this with you all (maybe some hasn't seen it yet) and I was wondering what are your thoughts on this.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/08/n...honest-burnin/

Also according to Tomi Ahonen this is a hoax

http://communities-dominate.blogs.co...o-my-ears.html

But also according to Engadget.. it's been confirmed and that it's real..

In my opinion that if it's real, then I hope Nokia can pull itself together and consider this as a wake up call (I know they're already changing, but maybe with the new CEO they will change a lot faster).. If it's a hoax, then I hope Nokia is looking at this so they can see what people are thinking/seeing on the net about Nokia.. idk

Pretty interesting though.

EDIT: I, personally, think that the new Symbian Qt UI (with the new browser and many other new stuff that are coming like portrait keyboard.. etc) and Meego + Qt will put Nokia right back up to #1 everywhere including the toughest segment which is North America.

I don't think they need to hurry up as much as they need to do it right this time. Both MeeGo and the new Symbian UI will either make Nokia great again, or it will make it even look worse.. Hoping for the best! As I really do care about Nokia (I've always bought a Nokia phone and imo it will be hard to move along and buy some other brand)..

Well it's a bit different really.. This has nothing to do with his new strategy. :)

Re: Steve Elop's "burning platform" memo

I think Tomi made a few very good points pointing out the high probability that this memo is a hoax.

But, as he also said, pretty much none of us know what Elop is really like.

Given the uncertainties surrounding that letter... I'd prefer to toss this into the rumor bin for the time being :)

It's great that the memo was published. I think it's real.

Of course, the more likely story is that the man realized that he was on a burning platform, jumped, and drowned instead.
