Flashing N900 Maemo wierd graphics
3 Attachment(s)
Hi!
I have tried several times to reinstall the eMMC and FIASCO images. It boots up without the dots and starts up in some win3.11 style grey graphics mode with no understandable characters, only boxes. I have followed the instructions found on the wiki, using ubuntu and XP, and trying different usb-ports. Has anyone experienced this? I also tried to flash an older image, but it didn't help. I noticed two things: 1. that flashing the rootfs takes only 0.1s. 2. With XP, the usb-image in the corner of the N900 disappeares after the flasher says: "Booting into flashing mode, no suitable usb-device found". It doesn't appear any more while flashing. Here's some images and the WinXP shell output: Code:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] |

I have erased everything not essential to the OS from mine whilst uninstalling NITDroid (cock up on my part) but it certainly didn't boot up like that - I did have the grey background but where text should be there were nothing but boxes, but I was able to flash both Fiasco and eMMC successfully.....

Re: Flashing N900 Maemo wierd graphics
How long does the flashing of the rootFS usually last?
|
Re: Flashing N900 Maemo wierd graphics
The same thing that happened to me . The best you can do is reflash both eMMC and firmware (in the correct order) and make sure that you flash the lastest eMMC and the lastest firmware (pr 1.3) this work for me =)

Re: Flashing N900 Maemo wierd graphics
Flashing the rootfs takes about 30 - 40 seconds, the longest part being erasing the CMT. You should be able to watch this go up percentage wise within the DOS prompt window on the XP machine.
Writing eMMC is a lot quicker. From what I can recall it doesn't particularly matter which way you flashthe images, just make sure you don't have the -R switch at the end of the first flash as this will reboot the device and that's when it goes tits up. |
Re: Flashing N900 Maemo wierd graphics
Does the usb-image in the corner of the N900 disappear normally while flashing?

Re: Flashing N900 Maemo wierd graphics
Now it's working!
1. I flashed the eMMC 2. Then I flashed(tried to) the rootFS with -R at the end. It finnished again in 0.1s. 3. When it started to reboot, i started flashing the rootFS again:confused: It worked! Now I saw the progress and the "Erasing CMT" -stuff. I did flash the eMMC first every time... Thanks a lot! |
Re: Flashing N900 Maemo wierd graphics
mine did that at weekend, i flashed emmc which was normal, then root which only took a second to do (root) at this point i thought oh dear. so without turning on or disconnecting i flashed root again which then went through all the processors erasing cmt, etc. then phone restarted as normal just took longer on the dots screen.

Re: Flashing N900 Maemo wierd graphics
I flashed mine again just to make sure everything was ok, because the apps were a bit sluggish. I had to flash the root twice.
I wonder why mine does this? Anyway, it doesn't matter as long as the device works! |
Re: Flashing N900 Maemo wierd graphics
