this thread is full of fail, and the OP is epic fail, and should be posted to the fail blog.

You advocate that if you get the news out, the Nokia stock price will fall further and Elop will be kicked out ?

Did you miss the massive piles of cash in M$'s wallet ? Or is your brain so full of fail you miss the potential impact of this ?

This ELOP can do no worse than the idiotic decision makers of Nokia old and is obvious Nokia needed a right good shake up.

Anyone and everyone that dont like this guy are obviously Microsoft haters but if you look at what Microsoft have achieved to date and at least they update !.

I have said this before on here and will say it again... the person responsible for the Maemo disaster should have never been allowed to make this happen, the whole thing was wrong right from the start, nothing like a finished OS hardly any support and that could only have made one thing clear... disaster !.

Everyone is pulling this ELOP down and he aint even put pen to paper yet !! give the guy a chance aye and see what comes out of it because quite frankly everything from say 2007 (i agree with Gerbick on this one) has been a total and utter disaster.

If Nokia being in Finland has not proved by now something is very wrong then i say move to the states where at least you will get solid support for every product.

Basically, its a big **** you! towards us who *have been* supporting Nokia the last years, despite the crap general public has been throwing their direction. And a big handshake towards the folks throwing the crap, heh.

Sure, if you're about to hit an iceberg, any captain is okay, so even Titanic's captain counts: as long as there is no chance to avoid collision anyway he is not worse than any other captain, he-he :). And MS looks like Titanic. They had a really EPIC FAIL with their Kin. Now they're failing WP7. Nokia fails too. Why the hell Nokia should fail together with these losers? I can understand if Nokia sticks to some WINNING platform, but that's definitely not about WP7.

Nokia fails anyway. If WP7 succeeds, MS will say thank you to nokia and slowly reduce their "privileged" status until they are just an OEM.
Nokia won't have an alternative, because meego is just a hobby project, and the market will be saturated by then.

Maybe MS buying their navteq/maps division at some point.

If WP7 fails, Nokia fails. Simple as that.

The principle is very simple.

Facts:

WP7 sales have been diabolical outside the US and very poor inside the US, so far.

Symbian sales are still strong outside the US.

A Meego device - if not released in an intentionally crippled state - has good potential for sales outside the US and possibly moderate niche market sales within the US.

Effect of continuing to buy Symbian handsets and future Meego ones:

Those sales will be supporting a CURRENT revenue generator and profit maker for Nokia at a far higher profit margin than notional future sales of Nokia WP7 devices (which couldn't help but be at a lower profit margin), whilst at the same time sales of WP7 devices currently on the market will likely remain dire.

In the face of continuing high numbers for Symbian, possibly promising sales for Meego and awful sales for WP7, are investors and non-MS-stooge board members of Nokia likely to support Elop / this strategy? The answer is a simple and resounding no.

Yep I don't intend on trying to save nokia, they want to kill themselves be my guest. I will miss their hardware and I was looking forward to QT development for phones on a Linux platform, it was like gee finally a smartphone platform I already know and can develop on without having to waste time learning. Perfect for someone like me that wants it as a hobby as I don't have the time between family and work to learn a new platform to tinker on for a few hours a week as a hobby.

The board is dumb and doesn't understand the US market. They release phones without CDMA which excludes the #1 and #3 largest of the big 4 carriers then they use a European gsm frequency excluding the #2 largest carrier. So 3G over here with nokia devices only works on t-mobile the #4 carrier... Then they don't play ball with the carriers here and they don't market over here to consumers. In the US nokia is a no name as far as consumers are concerned. 2 of the top cell manufacturing companies LG and Samsung those are to US consumer known brands, they make good tv's, DVD/blueray players, stereo equipment, etc. They have paid their US marketing dues and have established a brand over her and a brand following.

Had nokia corrected the above earlier they would be fine with symbian and meego. Without doing the above they can partner with MS, apple, google, RIM, palm/hp and it won't make a bit of difference here in the US or general north American market. They will die regardless.

The problem with the nokia/MS move is they didn't get anything out of it. They didn't get a double digit marketshare smartphone os. They didn't get an established mobile device platform partner. They didn't get a seasoned tried and true mobile OS. They didn't get a rich thriving mobile application community or ecosystem. They didn't get any of the crap Elop was spouting they would.

They got a 3rd tier mobile device platform name. They got an unfinished mobile OS( meego currently is more feature rich at 1.1 ) MS mobile marketshare ranks slightly above "other". They got possibly the weakest mobile application community ecosystem outside of RIM, worse then what nokia already has by far.

MS got, to kill their competition by assimilation, got all nokias services, got a big foot in the European market and developing country market by virtue of nokias branding. One of the best mobile platform hardware designers and manufacturers.

Nokia got.... Uhhh access to x-box live service, zune service, and bing search engine....

Way to go nokia :(

What are you saying?

For us to do Nokia's marketing jobs for free/at our cost and put a blind hope that an infinitesimal* uptick of their sales will reflect badly on Elop? Are you sure he won't take credit for this somehow to further his agenda?

For everyone to go to their closest Nokia retailers and hoard as much stuffs as possible? *Do you have any idea on how many handsets Nokia sells per year? What kind of numbers (and monies) required to do what you think would be done in this 'scheme'?

It don't add up.
Faaaaaaar from it.

PS: People don't buy handsets based on your idea of 'crippled' vs 'non crippled'. It's the same factors (difference) that sold iPhones and Android handsets vs the n900.

If WP7 fails, we'll see Android handsets from Nokia. And no Meego. No doubt about it.
