Re: Skype application

The N900 has Skype built-in. Click Status menu - Availability - Accounts- New to setup.

Re: Skype application

Or just sign in with your normal account if you have one.
Video, Voice and Chat all work.

Re: Skype application

Matters on where you're located. If you're in a country that didn't include the Skype app - India for instance - you'd be better to reflash with the international firmware of the Maemo 5 OS.

Well I am not able to download skype from OVI store either, getting "...not available in you country" error. I am from USA and ovi store is apparently detects IP (thus country).
Would reflash void the warrantee btw?
I feel robbed as one of the factor for me getting n900 was to be able to use skype.

marginally on the topic, does anyone know how to send sms through skype-out on the n900?...

my case: i'm in frequent contact with people in moscow, and sending the ocasional sms to a russian beeline number with my operator in spain costs about 0.90 EUR, while with skype-out it roughly costs 0,07 EUR... i've used this feature from PC skype for years, but i just haven't found a way to do it through my n900...

Indian government actually banned skype on phone devices & so that is why Skype was not available in N900 In the Indian version :(

but as far 28/2/2011 Indian users can download and install skype from ovi store & it works fine .. :D

for more info visit tekites.wordpress.com :D

Well, besides having good friends from India, I have no relation to it whatsoever, so I can't imagine how would I end up with Indian firmware version (if that's indeed the case). Phone was purchased from US Amazon (sold BY Amazon, not storefront seller) and shipped to US address (mine).
I don't even get Skype in search results on Ovi website using n900. I do see however corresponding link in google search, but once clicked, the "..not available in your country" message is displayed on the actual site.

Actually, now that I checked, I get the same (not available) message if I use my laptop. So, it seems that there are some "issues" with US.

Any US based n900 skype users around? Any issues?

P.S. @juanenrique, have you tried to just create sms message first and then "pick" skype recipient from your contacts?
