Rescuers are working really hard through day and night, also getting help from Taiwan, Japan, UK, USA, Ausie, Singapore. So far not so good down south. Live stream is still going on air. half of the trapped Japanese students may be fear to be dead under the rubble of the classroom. Hundred of thousands of people left homeless, no foods, no money, no power, no water, no sewage system, cars got sink into the ground causing by waterfaction. The mount broke off and tones of debres are scattering kilometres away from the origin and some are as big as a pick up truck got toss 1km away and went through houses and destroyed them completely.

Death told is still climbing from 75 current but is yet able to speculate the final amount, it's only rising. The priminister has declared the state of Emergency, 1st ever in NZ history. Damage was told to be greater than 15billions, the whole city will be demolished and rebuild.

39hours have passed and yet 300 still nowhere to be found. It is the 2nd biggest city in NZ. the darkest day of NZ history.

My heart goes out to all the people who have suffered losses and lost their homes... god i hope no more die.:(

You all do realize that by having Myriad sell the alien dalvik engine directly to the end user, they will make FAR FAR LESS income than their current business model?

Yeah, I hate to rain on the parade but this is a losing proposition. The only way to get Dalvik on our n900s is probably for someone to make their own version of Alien Dalvik from scratch.

Yes and no. If Nokia isn't interested in buying AlienDalvik for maemo, then how much money are they making from the N900 community?

Selling their VM & libs to the end-users would be one way of recuperating a *little* (I admit) bit of cost from their demo. For sure, it won't be the same level of money than it would be from a operator agreement, but still better than nothing. The real issue would be the maintenance costs, but that's a different issue.

I'm trying to understand how to recompile dalvik for n900 looking at android-x86 and source.android.com, but that's not an easy task to achieve as a side project with few hours here and there...

By selling to the 'community', they're selling everything they got (the vm); most likely to be ripped apart and made as a standalone engine to run all the android apps like most emulation engine/layers (scumm, dosbox, etc).

1 sale per person, maybe for $50 each and that's it.

This 'leak' will most likely perpetuate to the MeeGo platform, limiting their sale further.

By licensing the engine to developers, they could negotiate a % of fee/royalty PER TITLE.

AND, they can work with the developer to do any sort of (interface) customization to ensure the end user's experience to be as good as possible, to increase the likelyhood of repeat customers.

I don't see how selling directly to a few dozen n900 owners would impact their current business model. I doubt Microsoft and especially Apple will allow this on their devices; they'd be cannibalizing their own app market revenue. So that leaves Symbian and WebOS as their primary targets--I'm speculating since I haven't researched Myriad beyond watching the Youtube video. I don't see a conflict of interest over supporting a device that's no longer being sold. In consideration that it's already compiled and apparently functional for the n900, why not make a few thousand USD on what would otherwise gain nothing for them? Perhaps they've already signed contracts with clients that explicitly forbid them from this activity?
