Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
Hi all,
I recently got a Buffalo wireless router, and since the switch, I can no longer see my wireless AP. If I run the iwlist wlan0 scanning command on the phone itself, I do not see the AP. However, if I run it on my linux laptop, this is what I see: Cell 02 - Address: (removed) Channel:8 Frequency:2.447 GHz (Channel 8) Quality=60/70 Signal level=-50 dBm Encryption key:on ESSID:"wireless" Bit Rates:1 Mb/s; 2 Mb/s; 5.5 Mb/s; 11 Mb/s; 6 Mb/s 9 Mb/s; 12 Mb/s; 18 Mb/s Bit Rates:24 Mb/s; 36 Mb/s; 48 Mb/s; 54 Mb/s ESSI":" Mode:Unknown/bug Extra:tsf=00000024daaafc89 Extra: Last beacon: 4ms ago IE: Unknown: 0008776972656C657373 IE: Unknown: 010882848B960C121824 IE: Unknown: 030108 IE: IEEE 802.11i/WPA2 Version 1 Group Cipher : TKIP Pairwise Ciphers (2) : CCMP TKIP Authentication Suites (1) : PSK IE: WPA Version 1 Group Cipher : TKIP Pairwise Ciphers (2) : CCMP TKIP Authentication Suites (1) : PSK IE: Unknown: 2A0100 IE: Unknown: 32043048606C IE: Unknown: DD180050F2020101050003A4000027A4000042435E0062322F 00 IE: Unknown: 331A4C101BFFFF000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000 IE: Unknown: 2D1A4C101BFFFF000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000 IE: Unknown: 341608080800000000000000000000000000000000000000 IE: Unknown: 3D1608080800000000000000000000000000000000000000 IE: Unknown: 4A0E14000A002C01C800140005001900 IE: Unknown: 7F0101 IE: Unknown: DD0900037F01010000FF7F IE: Unknown: DD0A00037F04010000000000 Any ideas why I can see it on my laptop and not on my phone? My laptop is also a G wireless card. Walter |
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
Are you using the power kernel?
|
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
Yes, I am using the power kernel.

See this thread for details: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=60596
It's a bug in the power kernel. |
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
awesome, good catch.
Thanks, Walter |
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
That did it, I upgraded to the latest firmware and it works perfectly now.
Thanks, Walter |
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
Is there a new power kernel out that works?
|
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
When I say upgraded it, I upgraded the firmware of the wireless router. If you follow the link, you'll notice that some other people have apparently tried a different kernel and reported that resolved the issue as well. Upgrading the phone appears to be a little more difficult since it is even less of a standard upgrade process (you have to manually download and install it, as opposed to using apt-get ...).

Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
What link are you referring to?
And you upgraded the router to a newer version of ddwrt? |

After reading comments about a certain version of firmware of the DD-WRT router causing issues, I decided to upgrade to the latest. That fixed the issue for me. Walter |
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
Which router do you have?
I have the Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH, but I don't see any newer firmware versions. |
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
I have that same model - try here:
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/Brai...rade-MULTI.bin That is what I used, it looks like an experimental build. So far, I haven't had any issues with it. Walter |
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
And I am also using it with no issues so far.
It is much better than the official Buffalo DD-WRT although there has been mention that there will be a new official Buffalo version based on this one soon, though I wouldn't be surprised if there was an even newer DD-WRT by then. |
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
I just upgraded. You were correct. My device can see the network now. Problem solved.
Thanks for the help. |
Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
Sure, glad it worked. Hopefully this version is stable enough there won't be any other issues.

Re: Buffalo Wireless router (DD-WRT)
I am running this router on openwrt and N900 works fine with it.
