Yeah. The sound is really bad when I put it into an auxiliary jack.

Re: N900 AudioBooster

I am not sure, but it may work when you replace the paramaters out of the Restore folder in the AudioBoost and sh Audioboost.sh once again.
I mean, all necessary .parameters in AudioBooster/Patches/Restore copy over to AudioBooster/Patches/Audioboost

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, that doesn't work. I guess the files for restoring are not original - I'm not sure though.

Re: N900 AudioBooster

I twinkeled a bit with the lineout (for headphones) and now distortion is minimized, while the in-ears and headphones produce notably louder sound. However, I do not advise to use this patch, if using high audiophile quality headphones - it will just make the music louder. If you don't know what this sentence even means, skip this and install this script:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1951151/AudioBooster.zip

I would also like to create a script to alter brightness settings (e.g.: make less bright when viewing screen in absolute darkness). Does anyone have suggestions?

That's true. Will list them here though:
  • Remove extra loudness for headphones
  • Add extra volume bars for the earpiece
And then some, I just can't remember it. Basically I tried to address the issues raised in this thread.

Re: N900 AudioBooster

Quick question: if I already have the volumecontroldaemon installed, won't it conflict with AudioBooster? Follow-up question: do they aim at achieving the same things (headphone, speakers, earpiece)? Thanks. :) Asked the same question in the other thread (volumecontroldaemon)

Re: N900 AudioBooster

@topet
don't install this. Seems I messed up somewhere.

I've started looking at the audio system again, seems the n900 is simply messed up when dealing with headphones and it may not be redeemable in that respect.

The n900s' headset plays fine but other headphones do not. They seem to give out scratching noises. I may have forget about the headphone output altogether....-_-

Thanks for info, friend. :) Anyway just so I am attuned: what are you referring to when you say headphone and headset? I just wanted to correlate them to how I understand speakers, earpiece (for calling), and the music jack (for in-ear listening). Much appreciated. :)

What's great about this earpiece is that you can drive and talk on your phone without the hassle. You can focus in your driving while on phone call.

yes yes, but i may have to remove the awesome bass it produces. Also I plan to create an application which allows users to adjust the maximum volume output for various aspects like the speakers, headsets/phones, phone earpiece, bluetooth headsets/phones & tv out....this script nonesense just aint cutting it. So please bare with me, it may take some time to release.

Re: N900 AudioBooster

it seems to me the word "quality" is being mis-used here - certianly with regard to improving sound quality. I have read the entire thread and tho I cannot be entirely sure it seems this script merely messes with "EQ" settings - akin to cranking up the bass knob on a stereo.

whilst this may sound better to some under certian conditons it will as some have reported have very negative effects on quality.

the DAC (digital to analog converter) in the sound output stage of the hardware can only produce levels upto a finite point - and this point is also present in software and the audio stream. by boosting the bass level in software above unity gain many recordings will become "clipped" when played. this resuts in a teerible distortrion and squre wave signal going into your speakers/headphones. to counter this you can atenuate the entire signal so that rather than turning ub the bass you have really reduced everything else - but by sounds of the "makes it louder" comments this is not the case.
square signals into speakers and headphones are "VERY" bad. they are more than likely responsible for the deaths of speakers and headphones also reported in this thread.

under normal circumstances the voltage driving the speaker is varying continusoly, the speakers physical position varies with this which helps in cooling. when the signal is driven to max the voltage becoms static for prolgonged periods of time meaning yr speaker is not only being driven as hard as the amplifier output can achive - but it is also not moving, so it rapidly overheats.

Nice, great to see this script is being upgraded to an application. This would really work out, as lots of users simply miss the ability to run scripts in the first place, and miss the courage to run not-quite-perfect things in the second place. I think a solution like the one Swappolube provides, works out great!

So, are you aiming at this? I'd like to help on tuning the audio settings, using multiple headphones/outputs and some testing. If you setup a little program to tune the settings (e.g. EQ shape, loudness, volume levels, etc.), I can invest some time in optimizing the 'proposed' values. Thanks a lot for your work, it really improved my N900 experience!

This patch makes also the phone ringing louder ? And one more question , it could damage speakers if I listen music at max volume ?

Later edit : I applied this patch and I can't notice any difference , even with nokia headphones or Sony MDR-XD200 headphones .

Thank You

by "unzip". Find such package in app mgr (or package "zip")
or use xarchiver

Re: N900 AudioBooster

Well not exactly, I've asked ammyt to make the gui so that users could adjust the values themselves. But in the mean time I figure I should re-upload the script, so it's back on the first page.

This time it should not have that annoying scratching noise with the heavy bass, so yea, that's it.

It's also good to note that the volume difference is only noticably heard when using the volume controls buttons on the n900.

Is it possible to only change the volume of the earphone (phone calls) by only copying the hp.parameters file to /var/lib/pulse-nokia? Or is it needed any other file also? Is the audio call quality improved in this way?

Best regards and keep the good job!!
