Re: MeeGo 1.2 Developer Edition for N900

I have to say that this is all positive news. I'm wondering if someone on the Nokia board has stipulated that it would be useful to keep a hand in on the 'alternative' os. Call it a development / hacker / poweruser platform but it is another option for the future, afterall the MS deal is only for 5 years... A lot can happen in that time.
Ref the N950, assuming that this will be a souped up N900 now, dual core, extra faster memory, faster graphics chip, same screen? strengthened and reengineered usb port ;)

How one is supposed to update?
Reflash (i.e. copy new image on SD) or there's some sort of "zypper update"?

Also, how can we developers actually help?
Just grabbing an unassigned bug and try to fix it?

"I want to help!

Great :) We will have specific areas listed where we would need help. For now, try the N900 Handset image, and file or fix the bugs you see."

I know that, read already. But while waiting, I'd like to start looking a something more deep than just filing bugs.

Oh, sorry, duh; it's in the first post. I saw it for the first time in a slashdot comment this morning.

I'm fashionably late, and ready to party!

Anidel, - I think the project is getting ramped up right now

Initial steps I'd do if I were you:

* Join meego-porting@meego.com and meego-handset@meego.com (that's the primary areas the N900 things will be discussed)
* Hang out in #meego-arm
* Follow http://qa-reports.meego.com/1.2/Handset/Acceptance/N900 and see if there's anything in your interest area
* Play a little with Intel's Tablet UX, it's likely many of the applications there will replace existing MTF-based ones in Handset
* Learn QML if you haven't already ;)

I belive its just a waste of time. N900 will never be a laymans device or any of the linux OS. this will be always a toy for geeks. Coz i have noticed when maemo or meego takes one crawl IPHONE or android takes one high jump. popularity of these device or OS is zero compare to others. Linux has still long way to go and im sorry for that.if meego 1.2 is released in april 2011 then also there will be million of bugs. Yet after so many updates maemo crashed hundred times and yet not stable. And people will hav to wait more than a year for application.nokia tried harder to stay in the market then only they tied up with windows.

And yet you keep creating smurf accounts under different names to spout the same crap over and over again. If you are going to pretend to be 5 different people you should at least adopt a style of speech/writing that doesn't make you sound like a ***** in each one.

Coz?

Honestly - you would think people would have better things to do with their time than haunt a forum and post garbage over and over.

Right, so when you engage that brain of yours, do you not realise that Android has linux roots?

Also that Android 1.6 was a pile of crap?

And how iOS 1 was Pretty and smooth but HEAVILY feature lacking?

Guess you seem to forget MeeGo hasn't even had a public release yet! Also my N900 works pretty damn well and tbh if you are just going to moan then go have fun with an Android or iPhone device.

Instead of wasting my time with notifications for threads with your random, pointless and incredibly stupid trolling...
