http://download.meego.com/trunk-daily/builds/1.1.90/

I tried several daily builds
meego-handset-armv7l-n900-1.1.90.8.20110322.1-mmcblk0p.raw
meego-handset-armv7l-n900-1.1.90.7.20110315.10-mmcblk0p.raw
meego-handset-armv7l-n900-devel-1.1.90.8.20110317.7-mmcblk0p.raw
But all had the same errors.

No application is useable.

@Nicolai,
Yes nothing works other than half done on each. Music player played the music but crashed for me when trying to get back to homescreen. As expected of DE released.

Apparently yes (though it will technically be a reflash, not an OTA update), but be careful not to misunderstand what official here means. It will be published by Nokia, but not *supported* by Nokia care or other Nokia help lines (hence the "Developer Edition" moniker). If you go to a Nokia shop with such a MeeGo powered N900, you will likely get blank stares and be suggested to flash back to Maemo.

Just to be clear on this, I'm sure that the N900 MeeGo DE will never be offered as an automatic update within Maemo-powered N900s. Like with the CSSU, the user will need to do some manual work to put the N900 MeeGo DE onto their device.

Yes, that is exactly what was said (reflashing is under 'some manual work'). But to underline once more - this will not be an update to *Maemo* as such, it will be a new firmware for the same device (the N900).

Surely it will be a completlely new OS by flashing rather than just a new firmware, which I understood to be like a progression from say PR1.2 to PR1.3? I can't honeslty see N900 users ever being able to upgarade from maemo to meego via a firmware update?

I may be expecting too much but hopefully a user can dual boot maemo or meego from the emmc in the near future or at least run it from the SD card at a reasonalbe speed/perfrormance which doesn't seem to be the case at present with meego 1.2 due in just under a month.

I'll repeat again. It is not an update to Maemo 5. As for firmware - I guess that's terminology. A firmware is a premade image containing software created specifically for a device (and obviously the OS is one part of the firmware). Your current firmware contains Maemo 5 PR1.3. What we're talking about here is another firmware that will contain a build of MeeGo 1.2 optimized for N900 users, the only link between the two is that they are both made for the N900.

That is a question for Jukka, I don't know in what exact shapes and forms will this Developer Edition thing be made available officially. Note that the Developer Edition is not the same thing as mainline 1.2 (and very likely the release of the 'stable' Developer Edition will be trailing the MeeGo release). Honestly, you should not care more about upstream than a Ubuntu user cares about Debian.

Hmm, you should extract only the *.bz2 file and the resulting *.raw file is the image you should write to the sd card.

When reading instructions for Windows, pay attention to: 6.Select the MeeGo image file (note you must write *.* file name to see all files)

Hi Shardul,

You can copy the direct path from command prompt.
eg. If the files are extracted by the unzip utility, then you will find a raw file created.
Locate that file from command prompt and paste the path (as from the Win32DiskImager UI you will not be able to locate the .raw file)
Like I have copied file "meego-handset-armv7l-n900-1.1.99.0.20110330.3-mmcblk0p.raw" on "d:\shree\meego\" folder.
So I have given path as "D:\shree\meego\meego-handset-armv7l-n900-1.1.99.0.20110330.3-mmcblk0p.raw" and clicked on "Write" button. That worked for me.

But I have not found this build very useful.
Which one you are trying ?..
Do post your views on the build you are using :)
Have a great Time !! :D:D

Just start typing the name of the file in the text field, the entire name of the file should come up. Select it and continue.

Re: MeeGo 1.2 Developer Edition for N900

Not 100% sure what week 15 etc means but I assume it could be the end of Arpil/start of May, If so we could have the Beta edition for the end of may conference and a final version by the summer which is a lot quicker than I thought it would be.

Alpha release: on week 15
Official DE image available with some overlays on top of MeeGo 1.2 trunk (see ARM/N900/Configuration).
Calls, SMS and Browser should be in a demoable state (MeeGo Summit FI). Camera as a bonus.
Some key performance and usability items fixed (PM kernel, backlight control)
Beta release: on week 20 (MeeGo Conference)
TBD
Final release candidate: on week 25

Week 15 means the 15th week of the Year. Try looking at the calendar app from your n900 device and take a peek at the left in month view.

So the information is:
Alpha: 11.04.2011 - 17.04.2011 (W15)
Beta: 16.05.2011 - 22.05.2011 (W20)
Final: 20.06.2011 - 26.06.2011 (W25)

Saturday April 16th

9:35 - 10:15 "The MeeGo OBSes, MeeGo Apps and the Future" - David Greaves "MeeGo 1.2 Developer Edition for N900" - Jukka Eklund

Hmmmmm, maybe an updated version of 1.2 DE will be released on the same day. It almost fits in line with what you all have said about a late April release.

Re: MeeGo 1.2 Developer Edition for N900

MeeGo 1.2 and N900 Developer Edition are 2 different things. First one is the OS release, and second one is an edition optimized for N900.

At any time you will find everything there is to know at the wiki: http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/N900/DeveloperEdition. Most important thing to understand: This is not for regular Maemo 5 end users, only developers and hackers.

Okay, let me see if I understand this: The Developer Edition is not for regular Maemo 5 end users. Great. Thanks. Got it.

And to keep the noobs and kiddies out of trouble, there should be a dynamic, non-Googleable test at the download site. For their first offense, any talk.maemo.org, maemo.org or meego.com members caught cheating or helping would be banned for 1 week. 2nd offense, two weeks. And so on. And any non-authorized members that ask questions would be simply hanged, drawn and quartered.

My work here is done.

Oh for **** sake what is your problem!!! what he is saying is its for developers and if you're an enduser you cant expect it to "just work" like in the maemo case cause its a developer edition and you have too tweek to install apps or even make basic stuff to work.

Ofcourse you have right to install it as enduser if you want too. But some people may take it as its a full upgrade of Maemo and everything will work but this is not the case. Thats why its called a developer edition.

Would it be that hard to understand!?

I thought it's a specialized version for German users with all the i18n bits thrown out.

I dowloaded this de-version to my mmc. The user interface seems to be nice looking. Unfortunately there is so few functions which you could use. Actually no use for endusers, but it shows that there is potential in this product. Let's see what we have in July

He better be. Each day you don't compile an a.out on-device, MeeGo 1.2 DE deletes one file at random from the root filesystem.

I tried the meego "alpha", and last nights "nightly".
Whilst the boot screen may look nice, I get an ext4 filesystem error (Detected aborted journal)
Tried dd'ing this on two computers, same problem.
Has anyone else had this problem? Surely someone tested the alpha actually booted and worked....?

We use ext3, you shouldn't get ext4 errors..

Remember to be sure to umount anything that your computer automounts from the SD card -before- dd'ing.
