Just like a mouse and a PC work or go together so do the stylus and my Nokia N900. They are one and I would be at a great loss without it!

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

I almost never use the stylus... I'm happily using the top of my finger nail and it's enough even for clicking links.

I can't even remember how I used to use the web browser before the N900 + stylus ! It seems impossible in any other way !!! :)

... true! ... fingers are great ... but it's amazing how often it's more useful to use some kind of tool to interact with the world ... shame the phone industry/tablet industry are trying to take all that technology away from us and take us back to the days of finger-painting!

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

If only it didn't scratch my screen...

anyway I still thinking on dumping the idea of the N9 for a SG Note because of the stylus (and screen)

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

Well use a good protector then :p
I am loving this phone! :)

qwazix 2011-09-03 21:44

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

Yeah, it scratches the protector too. It's not expensive but I don't like the rubbery feel of expensive ones.

I'll be changing them every couple of months...

its important to me, i use it as a toothpick and ear cleaner on the go.

well having a stylus is awesome cause my lil nieces and nephews love drawing with my N900, which makes my brother envious because they would rather pass, on his iphone4 :)

Great work.

I like to draw myself, but I did not draw with the original stylus anymore, I always scratched the screen...just a little dust and was scratched
I use empty marker instead , with that I have no more visible scratch.
If anyone know aether better stylus for drawing?

i use the stylus when i want to edit my desktop precisely, and no you cant replace the stylus easily, i bought from 3 different online store theyre all fake eventhough it says genuine the build is just flimsy and the freakin tip runs out.

I never use the stylus, if I'm on something like angry birds nails usually do a better job than the stylus because i can aim at the screen better

Use a working marker, saves battery life.

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

I use it 9 out of 10 times. I bought 10 and I scattered them around the house so I don't need to use the one on my n900 so often.

I use pen pen as a notes app too often;
I use to work on easy debian (mostly using Gimp) and it would be IMPOSSIBLE without it;
I control my computer through PresenceVNC, and without the pen, impossible;
Angry Birds without a pen is just that awful;
Hitting that link with the pen is just that easy, mainly if you do not want to zoom in all the time to hit them;
Selecting texts with the pen is just a must;
Playing CAPH without a pen is just that awful too;

And there's other little things here and there that, without a pen, would be just not good.

That's why I'm willing to think about trading my n900 to the new sansung note thingy. The big screen will hopefully make up for the lack of a keyboard and it comes with a pen that works (and does more than just write on the screen).

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

I lost my stylus about 10 months ago, was going to get a new one, but never got around to it. It wasn't until this thread did I realize a stylus came with this device. I honestly don't need one since I can't draw and my nail works fine when browsing. So for me, it is not that important.

very very very very very very very very important

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

I use the stylus rarely. For general navigation/web browsing/claws-mail I just use my fingernail (conveniently attached to the end of my finger). Occasionally I'll use the reverse end of my pen if I'm already holding it.

Hmm, I had roughly the same experience, used the device without a stylus for several months and had no major problems that I noticed. I replaced the stylus last week (eBay, £1.69 delivered) and am pleasantly surprised how much difference it has made; I don't need it for day-to-day phone use, but it seems to improve precision when browsing, it's useful with mapping software, good for rearranging the desktop or switching between multiple tasks and nice to have for games (I just got into Angry Birds...)

I'd say I'm now getting more use and entertainment out of my N900 than at any time since I bought it. That's partly due to the stylus and partly down to carrying an external battery - but the stylus makes much more difference than I thought it would. Two weeks ago I'd have agreed with you entirely, but I now regard it as £1.69 well spent.

well i got a n900 without it and i felt pretty damn lost for a while, but after i mastered the spiral zoom things became a bit easier.

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

I'm using it not that often because one of the first addons to my N900 was the "Touch screen pointer" from Krusell, a strap with a litlle stylus on. This way it can never get lost and it's faster to use than the stylus. But it's only useful for short actions, some fast swipes and touches and not for longer working because the stylus istself is quite small. But the most useful gadget on my gadget ;)

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

I use the stylus whenever I need to copy text on a webpage. Slide the stylus from the left side of screen, move curser to start of text, hold shift key on keyboard and move curser to the start of the text I wish to copy. Cntrl+C and Bob's yer uncle.

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

I lost mine about a year ago. In the beginning I missed it a lot. Thought about buying new styluses. But now I am used to it. Maemo really works well without stylus. But sometimes with repetitive tasks a stylus is easier.

Re: How important is your stylus to you?

I lost mine a couple of months ago, and I had already lost the spares I bought from eBay while moving house. I miss it occasionally, but a combination of zoom (in microB) or a biro/pencil/twig/chopstick (anything else) means I'm not that sad.
