On a side note: It has been reported that by 8pm lines were gone at most stores and you could purchase one in minutes. Also: The mayor of Philadelphia put some of the cities business on hold as he waited all day in front of an Apple store in a lawn chair in order to get an iPhone on the first day.... |

When I heard no MMS, I was very confused. Why not? Also, with a "phone" capable of playing video I don't understand why it cannot capture video. Typical Apple crippleware and this from an Apple fan. No file browser? Serious?

Yeah. I'm a long-time Apple fan (and user -- since 1982!)... It seems to me that Apple is getting a bit impatient in their old age. The iPhone could have used another six months of development, as well as some testing time in a few 3rd party hands.

iPhone 2 will be the device to get.

Re: Today is the Day That I Happily Refuse To Purchase an iPhone...
No bluetooth tethering possible with the iPhone so no use to me even if I could use it in the UK!
Rumour is that Apple will announce the European iPhone on Monday which will have 3G support... if it still has no BT DUN (or even PAN - hello, Nokia!) support then it will still be no good to me! |

Well, you know, I've got to say this. I really can't rebut any of the points you make about the iPhone. It's true, it's a device with some flaws. I have faith that Apple will do it's best to iron out these flaws with software updates, but, i'll give you credit on the fact that most of the points made in the article quoted in this thread probably will not be resolved. My only question is, what's your point?
Don't take this the wrong way. I assure you that a week ago, I would have been saying the same exact thing as you. But then I realized what I really wanted in a phone. I have a Cingular 8125, but do I use it to browse the web? No, I don't. Why? Well, ask anyone with the same phone. The web experience is unbearable. I'm spending how much money for what? I've also got a 770. The web browsing experience is amazing. I don't honestly think that Nokia could make that part of it any better. Do I carry that around with me? Umm...no. I am someone that is very tolerant of huge bulges in my pockets, but I have my limits :) . And my iPod...collecting dust. I just can't deal with carrying three separate devices. So what do I do? Carry just the 8125 and I never, ever, even touch it except to put it in my pocket in the morning and out of my pocket at night. Yeah, the iPhone barely surpasses the 8125 on paper, but what is paper anyway? Why do we have to benchmark devices based on how complex they are? Why can't a good device just let you do what you want to do instead of giving you an error 95% of the time and letting you figure it out. I want an iPhone for the same reason that I wanted a mac, I love solving problems when the problems aren't getting in the way of more important things. Muddling through 10 levels of cryptic menus, typing in Unix commands that seem never to end, smashing my head on my desk with every appearance of that damned E word as it scrolls by my stylus/mouse pointer/cursor, that's my hobby, not my life. What i'm trying to say is not that I want you to change your mind. I think that everyone should have their own opinion about what it is that they need, since, obviously, every person's situation is different. I'm just offering the flip side of the coin. The concept that forms the foundation of basically all of Apple's products. The idea that perhaps it's not the specs, but the way you use a device, that truly makes the difference. |
