Before sentencing read my post, about the recording in 720p and increase the bitrate.

I hope not to offend anyone, do not pretend that!

I just got an N900 and I'm a bit lost, there are two things that do not understand why not go ahead, one of them is the development in the camera.

I have read some post that say it is impossible for hardware task brings out the recording in 720p.

For what reason?

If that was not possible ...
with the speed of the N900's internal memory, it could increase the recording bitrate by default?

I know, N900 have:

Carl Zeiss Optics, OMAP3430 ( IVA2+ Encoder/Decoder OF HD720P Content )

A FAST internal transfers, i have got a lot of phones and this is the fastest of all.

Well the Samsung H1 is a bit better xd

back to the original topic...
If is there any hardware limitation, can only be the camera right? but you are sure about what model have? recording modes support...etc

For example, motorola defy doesn't suport 720P recording, a lot of people says is hardware feature blahblahblah.... but now, a chinese guy make real our dream. 720P recording...

Same happens here, a lot of people saying no! imposible, the hardware, others noo! the software.

[Deleted words xd]

PD: I am not a developer but I am sure that here are many and good developers.

PD2: Excuse my bad english

Actually, I would be very pleased if someone fixed the jagginess of video recording in the n900.

I'm almost certain it doesn't even use the GPU to process things, otherwise it would be good enough, but even with a 1.15GHz overclock it drops frames and it is awful quality.

Re: Before sentencing read my post, about the recording in 720p and increase the bitrate.

That is true, but... maybe with android? or Meego?

The lagginess of the video, maybe is the sensor?
that isn't a I/O Read problem right?

For the way The default recording at full frames with a little bit more bitrate, i think will be OK, and more than sufficient.

why if you new to maemo you would think you are the first one to ask those questions? just use search next time, and if you want something or do it yourself or you free to ask Nokia, they might be little busy with wp7 though

I read your post, and I regret that I must sentence you to death by stoning, or the TMO equivalent, which is to gather all N900s with a broken USB port and throw them at your head. Whoever deals the fatal blow gets the bonus prize (free copy of Angry Man). You have a 10 second start to escape. I suggest that you start running.

;)

Before 720p, recording 480p without dropped frames would be a good start.

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and chalk this up as a translation issue. Please be aware though that this sounds incredibly douchey in English.

Lol, i'm dead now xDDDDDDDD *shigh*
:(

PD: i add that the majority of post ending in nothing, do not conclude anything.

Re: Before sentencing read my post, about the recording in 720p and increase the bitrate.

Yes, this is true.

The reason many threads end with nothing is that if there's a chance that it can be done, there's no negative exit. And while there is no incentive but quite a hard work to get something working, there'll be no positive exit either. While it would be a good thing to have better video recording, it's not about to happen any time soon.

Re: Before sentencing read my post, about the recording in 720p and increase the bitrate.

i think a lot of people have an N900, and for sure, they have money to donate xD

Well, just we can whait if android port becomes 100% real, with camera working, maybe can handle extra camera modes.

Re: Before sentencing read my post, about the recording in 720p and increase the bitrate.

The GPU is useless for video recording and would slow things down. The DSP, however, IS used to encode the video.

Probably the source of jitter is lack of buffering on the video input and disk output. MPlayer's mencoder seems able to record perfectly smooth video. however it can't encode realtime and runs out of memory in 10-20 seconds or so..

The lack of input buffering could be due to video being fed directly to dsp in order to offload cpu..

Re: Before sentencing read my post, about the recording in 720p and increase the bitrate.

maybe is the software? a bad optimitzation off resources...

raaj13 2011-03-14 16:24

Re: Before sentencing read my post, about the recording in 720p and increase the bitrate.

I think it's bad coding/Bad optimisation of DSP that's to blaim.
And moreover the components are closed so we can't know the real reason's.
Nokia should atleast open the closed source components to community devs.

Defy plays 720p and records full screen but it doesnt record 720p.

I wish we had coreplayer on N900

Re: Before sentencing read my post, about the recording in 720p and increase the bitrate.

In the other hand N900 doesn't play neither record HD. The video recorder could be better, the hw has power to do at least VGA 30 fps. (N95 specs) running at only 332 mhs, while even 3+X still drop frames. it is one of N900's various weak points, but still like it a lot. I heard Nexus One got HD recording, before was wvga. But like other post, I would be happy if it could record at least VGA at steady frames.

That's not true, a chinese man make possible the imposible, search on XDA... :p

Defy is a great phone, doesn't have a good camera but the videos still better than our N900.... with a carl zeiss optics... and all that ****...

however...
I see somewere the nokia can play 720p videos under android, and maemo to... so... the droid can, and y repeat, other phones with the same CPU can... why our n900 can't?

I think the A8-Cortex are same as other phones ( he have the DSP inside right? nokia can't make any change to his estructure ) so i think there is a software/driver problem...

Well, i just can only whait...

PD: excuse my bad english xd

motorola defy has omap 3610 or 3630, n900 has older omap 3430, it's not the same chipset.

i own a defy and n900 and i am on xda, can you point me to 720p recording?

Stskeeps has probably already been working on some form of this, at least hopefully his crew improves it. MohammedAG could also handle it if he could take time off from all his other improvements to Maemo.

No!! im not comparing the defy to our N900!! i know defy have a better CPU at least 30% faster!!

I dont know where are that tread, i will search it, is interesting =)

So by de way, with play 720p i'm refering the "same type devices".

Omnia HD, Droid1, Samsung H1, Sony Ericsson Vivaz, and i think one o two more.

All have the same CPU, and all can play 720P files and some of them can record in 720P with an excelent quality ( in the samsung h1 and omnia HD )
