LiveProfile (more than a BBM clone)

An ex-BlackBerry (now Android) friend of mine recently introduced me to LiveProfile (http://www.liveprofile.com/) which is a nice BBM style messenger (it even goes so far as to assign PINs). The application is currently available for Android and iOS, but here is the response I received when inquiring about OS expansion (Maemo, MeeGo, and Symbian):

"We are working on supporting these operating systems soon. We are a bit backed up so we don't have any exact ETA yet. If you know of any Symbian developers be sure to send them our way :)"

So, that bares the question... Anyone with an understanding of Qt want to contact them?

Because we simply don't have enough IM protocols yet.

please name one that enables communication between different branded mobiles, that is reliable and popular... except the sms function of course.

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

Exactly *sarcasm*. I merely posted this because I've have seen posts of people wanting something similar to BBM. That and for a decent free app that is available on BB/iOS/Android, with a want to expand to others, it could useful for those that want a BBM experience sans BB.

XMPP is popular, ubiquitous, supports voice, messaging and video.

It is extensible and can be made to work with push.

Please stop buying into vendor locked proprietary protocols, and demand standards based messaging.

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

I've never used BBM on Blackberrys but i believe the best part about it was to be able to see if the other person has read the message that you sent them (ex. you send a person a message when the recipients are driving, and it's good to know they've received your message).

Live Profile is definitely picking up speed in the Android world, my girlfriend just downloaded it on her Nexus S. I'm assuming it's also becoming very popular for iOS.There's without a doubt that this application will be used widely very soon

Not really. People can look without having anything to contribute.

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

Guys i really think that maemo5 developers should perhaps consider porting this app, it sounds really promising. I've been looking for something like this for a while now with no avail. I've been over the whole open vs closed source discussion numerous times, and what i have realized is that users what the option to choose whether open or closed. I would have taken up the challenge but i know nothing about coding :(

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

THIS wud be sweet on the n900 cause its a mobile chat client (e.g. bbm, ping, bite etc) the others chat clients we already have are desktop ones... Btw not everyone uses N900's most other phones lack the app free integrated chatting that the n900 has, live profile is also cross platform +1 thats why we need a mobile chat client... hope i made sense peace out :)

How did you contact them?

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

Instead of just demanding it here ((open source) clone from scratch would probably be too much work for anybody), why don't you go and try to get original developer make a qt version (and after that maybe a maemo version) of the program in here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/liveprofi...eego_maemo_wp7.

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

this would be a good app since the majority of people I know do use blackberries or android and there all too stubborn to sign into there msn. I know theres msn and its all a hype but if i need to talk to people and there not there I may as well move. so this app would be great

Requesting the same thing! The only reason I'm using android on my n900 is this app, and since nitdroid is still quite buggy, it's not that handy :(

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

Liveprofile is currently developing a version for symbian and meego according to their website

I just checked. On the forum, I only find responses that they are making it for symbian, but nothing in maemo/meego?

These are some of the tweets from their official twitter page;

LiveProfile for Nokia phones coming very soon / LiveProfile para los teléfonos Nokia vienen muy pronto :)

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

if there making it in Qt it should be a very simple port then shouldn't it?

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

Hi everyone.

I can confirm that LiveProfile is targeting the Maemo / Meego platform since I'm one of the ones developing it :D

I also own an N900 so it will be properly tested, I assure you.

We're aiming to release both Maemo / Symbian^3 as they're both done in Qt (essentially the same codebase).

Please feel free to post any questions regarding the app and I'll be able to reply accordingly (should I make a thread?).

Thank you!

PS: I just registered but I've been lurking the forums for a long time, I'd like to offer my thanks to the community for the excellent and up to date content.

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

I'm sorry but I can't disclose any information regarding release dates.

What I can tell you is that we're all doing long nights, no weekends and lots of Coca-Cola :)

I will ask about possibly sharing a beta on the forums when possible.

Additionally, I'd like to ask a moderator or the creator of the thread to remove the space between Live and Profile (it's one word, LiveProfile) and also to remove the comment about the BBM clone, we're so much more than that (as I hope you will see in time).

Thanks again.

Re: Live Profile (BBM clone)

This is awesome dude, i think you should start a thread of its own for LiveProfile. I have been push for an app like this for ages, I'll be happy to be a beta tester when the time comes.

Re: LiveProfile (more than a BBM clone)

@Deleet

Nice to hear something from the developers :)

I think you should create an official thread to keep the maemo community up to date about the latest developments.

One question though, will it be integraded in the contact list? Like we have with facebook chat, msn, skype etc...?

deleet 2011-06-19 14:20

Re: LiveProfile (more than a BBM clone)

@SL65

I plan to create a thread but only when I have something to show people (hopefully tomorrow) :P

Regarding the contact list, we plan on looking into that functionality although it may not be present in the initial version.

PS: Thank you for changing the thread title, although we'd prefer not to be compared to BBM at all :)

Wow, this is great news! You should really start a new thread with a [WIP]* tag. I saw this thread's name come up again and again and i ignored it, as probably just silly noob-bashing thread.
Releasing a beta version would be great!!

*Work In Progress.

Re: LiveProfile (more than a BBM clone)

Hey everyone.

I'm sorry that I wasn't able to post anything yet, we've been very busy, especially with the N9 announcement.

I hope to have something to show very soon but with my current workload I'd rather not make any promises.

I'll be sure to create a new thread once I can share some more information :)

Thanks for your continued interest.
